July 15, 201115 yr I was told yesterday by my nutrionist that I wont be able to swallow anything bigger then the size of an "advil" for 6 weeks after surgery... this seems a little extreme?
July 15, 201115 yr Hey, Stephanie I am now a week and a half post op and although am on the liquid diet still, I can swallow normal size capsules without a problem. It will still be some weeks more before my surgeon will have me go to soft foods, but I have been told that the opening is small at the bottom of our new stomach "pockets" and that things can get stuck, which does not sound good. Maybe that is what the overzealous nurse was referring to?
July 15, 201115 yr i would listen to what your nurse /dr tells you. better to be safe than sorry. i would stay clear of as many pills as possible. i have heard of them getting stuck in your pouch and without realizing it, it burns a hole in your stomach. can cause a lot of problems.

Sounds a bit extreme, but everyones different. Don't try to eat a McDonalds chicken nugget less than 3 weeks post op!!! That was my first stuck expirence!.

July 16, 201115 yr lol. why on earth would you eat a chicken nugget anyways? we're trying to LOSE weight. haha, I know...I know... I was with a friend that wanted to go through McDonalds drive thru, so while he was scarfing down his meal he offered me a nugget. I tried a bite of one....and let me tell you...what a mistake that was! felt like a golf ball in my throat and hurt bad! I think everyone tests the waters at somepoint, and that was my first "what did I just do" moment.
