Hello Missouri

OK, I know I'm not the only Missouri person searching for surgery. I was surprised to get on here and find that no one has ever posted here.

I would like to start a rapport with other Missourians looking into, scheduled to have, or already had lap band surgery. If you're willing to post, I'd love to hear from you!

Have a great night

Billie Branham

  • In case you haven't heard of these, my sister uses the "nasal pillows" instead of a mask. You might ask about those for your claustrophobia. Just thought I'd mention it.

Hi, I was just wondering if you did end up having the lapband surgery? I live in St. Josepha and am hoping to have the surgery in March and am looking for a nearby fill doctor. Please let me know your story. Thanks.

HI mmh498

Yes I did have the surgery in June 06 My doc Dr Hoehn is great he is at the Shawnee Mission Medical Center complex the number is 913-677-2506 I believe. I highly recommend him.

can anyone recommend an orthopedic surgeon in the kc area? i've had arthroscopic surgery on my left knee, torn miniscus, and have osteoarthritis in my knees. dr i see says i'm too young (42) for knee replacement...i'd like to explore other options/doctors

I am hopefully getting lapbanded in the next couple of months. Just need to get time off work and clear the schedule.

I spent so much time searching for something affordable, it has been so expensive and my stoopid insurance is not going to cover me.

I have finally decided to book with a company called Planet Hospital. Surgery will cost me $7000.00 and they are doing all the arrangements for me.

I am so stoked! Have lost 50lbs through diet and excersise but still need to lose 125lbs more and having trouble doing it alone.:clap2:

Hi LaLee,

I'm just reading your post and I don't personally know anyone, I've heard Columbia is great. I was told that Dr Pitt was very good and only did lapband surgeries. However, Deletorre is one of the best and I plan to have him as a surgeon.

Lisamarie, congrats on your surgery and weightloss.

That sound's like one hell of a deal??? I'm going in Feb. 5th for my surgery w/ Dr. malley there in KC (I'm 2 hrs South of KC).

Being self pay myself that would save me around $14,000.00+

What Dr. is it, are you talking about one in Mexico?

Hey SteveinKansas,

I am using a company called PlanetHospital and they are scheduling lapband procedure with Dr Corvalla in Tijuana. They have quoted a price of $7250 + air. I have decided to stay with friends in Los Angeles when I get my procedure done, this way it is just a drive over the boarder.

Before you commit to the price that you have been quoted, check out this company. I worked with a case manager by the name of Sarine, she was so nice, knowlegeable and has a great reputation amongst her clients. Their web is Home - PlanetHospital and the # is 800-243-0712.

If you are paying out of pocket, check them out. Another friend of mine has used their service for lapband and convinced me to do it. I am hoping to go the end of feb if all goes well with vacation from work.

Good luck on your Quest. Laurie

There are some good ones at Providence in KCK. Robinson and Rice I believe and a Dr Yanni...not sure that spelling is correct tho.

By the way...There is Weight Loss Surgical Center at Overland Park Kansas Portal-to-Go Error

I really like Dr. Selim he is assistant professor of GI Laproscopic & Endoscopic Surgery at KU hospital. Very good bedside manner and no question is silly.

i didnt talk to dr selim long enough to see any silliness...he was very nice in my pre-op appt, and i saw him briefly before surgery. didnt se him after, or since, as he is only there on fridays. i have my visits on tuesdays.

Hi Marshap,

I had BCBS Kansas Blue Care-they did pay for lap band but before I submited everything I made sure they had everything they would need. I was approved in 1 week.

I now have BCBS traditional as of Jan 1 (hubbys company forced change) and I am not sure if they will continue to pay for my fills. We will see....

Just a note in response to the 15,000 fee. Does that cover the outpatient portion of the hospital stay? As I just yesterday received 2 bills in the mail. The hospital portion was 25,0000!

Just wondering as that could make a big difference!
