    Banded Bikers II

Hey All, Just checkin in to see what's up and it look's like it's ridin season for everyone! Aint nobody around! That's good though, if your ridin, your doin alright! Myself I'm workin like a dog tryin to keep fuel in 8 semi's (BIG OUCH!) Let's not even go to the fuel subject . . . . . . . . . . Happy to report I'm down "70" lbs, should be more but with my line of work there's just no way to eat right and visit the gym everyday. Workin out of town all the time and just gettin by with these DAMNED fuel prices and tryin to keep the drivers under control. I'm ready for fall to get her already, I dont do well in 100+ heat. Hope everyone is gettin plenty of ridin in, we're takin time off headin for the Rockies and up through Utah, then down through Yellowstone (wife's never see it), hit Sturgis, back through the Rockies and back to the flat lands of Kanzass. Just makin one big loop with no place we have to be at any certin time. No time line's, no worries! Enjoy your ridin season and be safe out there, winter's just around the corner! Good luck all, Steve
  2. How soon is to soon? I'm three weeks post-op today and I was told to just take it easy until my first fill, which will be another two weeks. Started 320 got down to 275 and am now back to 281. I'm going the wrong way! I havent been walking as much as I could but what does "take it easy" really mean? With NO restriction, I feel I could eat a horse. I have tried to eat as I should, small portions, healthy foods & veggies but the pounds keep creaping back up. I plan to call the Dr. today but they were VERY adiment that there would be NO fills before the five week period. I understand self control but when you know you can eat more it sure test the will power! Any advise would be greatly appriciated. Thanx, Steve

    Banded Bikers II

Hey All, Randy if your post wouldnt of gone to my email, I dont know when I would of had time to check in. Took the winter off but now it's time to get back to work and make a real living. Just happen to be in the office today hiring people, aaaaaand playing on the computer a little! I know what your talkin about with the weather, what you guys had down south came up our way (S.E.Kansas). Nothing but rain today and tomorrow and most everything I need to do is outside! Very little riding going on up here mainly cuz I have found out that I'm gettin OLD and dont like the cold & damp like I use to! 60 degree's plus for me these day's, that's like saying you like camping, as long as it's at the Holiday Inn . . . . . . . Notice how hard & damp the ground is the older ya get??? Go see an Orthapedic Sergion 3-24 to see when they are going to slice & dice my shoulder. Rotator cuff is keeping me awake at night but not sure I want to miss out on a full riding season. Talked to several who have had the surgery and they all say you WILL be down awhile. Going to see if we can put it off untill Fall / early winter. Hope everyone else is doing well, I know we had some new guy's over in the Men's Room that got sliced & diced. Have had several people notice a change in myself (-45 lbs) good to know it shows, I dont really see it yet. Had to miss my first fill Mar. 12 due to another Dr. app. that couldnt be changed. All is well though, so I go in 3-26 and get that first fill. I know I need it cuz I could (but dont) eat a horse! Happy riding all, Steve

    Cutting back on meds...

Hey Guy's (& Gal) Had to go in for my DOT physical last friday and my reg. Doc was very interested in my Lapband and was impressed with the loss of 45 lbs. My BP & Cholesterol was the best it had been in years, I did mention dropping the med's but he would like to give it some more time before doing so. I never got around to doing the sleep study so am scheduled Apr. 1st for it. Asked about the CPAP and Doc said at this point, the way I'm going it may be a waist of time??? I'm ready to drop the med's, chewing any med's sucks! Good luck to all, Steve

    nervous

Hey Big Rick, I lifted in high school too, but that was a looooong time ago! I was in the same boat, didnt know what to expect and had a million questions. I'm pretty fresh myself, banded Feb. 5th but your in the right place. I only post here in the "Guys" section and the "Biker" section. I just feel better talking to guys & people I have something in common with. I've learned you can ask ANYTHING you want, just dont ask if you dont want an honest answer! I've read everything on here from your sex life, to wiping your butt with BBQ tongs! So ask away! Like I said, your in the right place and your heading in the right direction. Keep us all posted how your doing. Best of luck to ya, Steve

When To Get Serious About This Post-Op?

Mr. Jack, I have followed many of your post to find great wisdom, there is nothing like learning from the pro. Your 4oz's you speak of, was that before your first fill? I am 3 wks post-op today and feel I could eat everything put in front of me. Although I make myself quit eating, the urge is still there. Seem's I was fine until I could start on "soft food", baked potato, veggies etc. but that's when I noticed the additional weight starting to slowly come back. Anything at this point is a hell of alot better than blended fish or chicken. Great the first couple of bites, but taist like saw dust after that! And I was right, NO FILL'S until 5 wks. Guess I'll have to use my head for something besides a door stop.

    scales for the big guys

Hey CampinHappy, I bought a set at Wally World a couple week's ago that are the best. They are "HealthOmeter" brand with extra large 1.5" color display. Professional Body Fat Monitoring scale. Measures Body Fat Calculates Hydration (Body Water) Level Tracks Change In Weight Monitors Progress To Goal Thats everything it says on the box, I just happen to still have it. It also has four "personal settings" for four different people. I'm #2 so I just push #2 first thing in the morning and it tells me how tall I am, blinks a couple times and I get on and "it lie's to me!" It remembers everything for you, $40 well spent in my book. I also liked the fact it tells you how Hydrated you are just after surgery. You do have to weigh bare footed for the magic to work. Hope this helped, Good luck. Steve

    Band Day 02/15/2008 @ 11:30

Hey BigMike 840, I went in Feb. 5th, I was to start my pre-op diet 2 wks out but started 3 just to make sure I could do it. Yes, it was a pain in the ass but I kept reminding myself what the end result would be. Surgery day I was like a lil kid lost in the mall, nervous to say the least. Nurses seen it and eased my nerves. Just after surgery while in recovery they kept trying to wake me up. I could hear them but couldnt talk. Finally came around, just took awhile. No imediate pain just took awhile to get the cobwebs cleared from my head. Not sore at this point but knowing you just had surgery things are "tender". Surgery at 8:30am, laid around and got waited on hand and foot all day, finally around 4:00pm got up and started walking the hall's feeling pretty darn good concidering. Had to drink some "barium" for em before I could leave. I didnt realize it at the time BUT this was very educational for me. They had the screen so I could see it when I drank the barium. This gave me a very good idea just how the new band works. I seen the barium go down and when it got to the band, it was like a river hitting a dam. I seen just how long it took it to go through. Not long, but I could see how one could drink to much and "get backed up". Hope that made some sence to ya??? So now when I drink, I understand why they say just keep sipping, dont gulp it all down at once! The gas was a real pain in the ass. Mostly upper chest / shoulders, not so much pain just discomfort, nothing you cant live with for a couple days. Do as the Dr. says and dont try an be a hero like I did. I took off for an auction two days out and wore myself out. Bad move on my part but worst part of it was had to tell the wife "she was right" OUCH! That hurt! DRINK, DRINK, DRINK and when your full, drink some more. Something I'm having trouble doing, but trying. Got a blender? It's going to become your new friend the first two weeks post-op. I did liquids first 4 days and am now on "anything I can get through a straw". chicken & fish taist great (first couple of bites) it taist like sawdust after that. I was so hungry for green Beans but didnt have any so settled with pea's. Great the first few bits and grew tired of them. No doubt your taist will vary. Took the wife out to eat last night for V-Day. I had clam chowder and they blended it for me! Pretty darn good! Told the waitress times were hard and it was the wife's turn to eat, that's why I wasnt eating! Stopped by and got some egg drop Soup on the way home, that was pretty good too. Cant say I'm hungry now, still doing Protein shakes for Breakfast & lunch and snaking on mushies when ever I want and for dinner. Hope some of this has helped. Good luck on the surgery, it'll be just fine. Keep us posted! Steve 1-6-08 320 lbs BMI 50 2-15-08 275 lbs BMI ? 45 lbs gone never to return!

    For Just Us Guys

whosyadaddy, Hey I did go back and finally find the "couch to 5K" program, thanx for the help. I knew I had read it before but wasnt sure where to find it again. I havent jogged since high school (30+ yrs ago) my problem is aching ankles, weak knee's & squeeky hips! I started walking a lil just before surgery and ankles were telling me to stop! My therory on exercise has always been, "your knee's are made to bend so many time's, so why wear them out before their time!" With the loss of 43 lbs already in the last 5 weeks (w/o walking) I'm sure it will become easier with less weight. Did you have any aches & pains when starting this program and how did you deal with them? Also how soon post-op should one try this? I'm one week post-op today & still plenty sore. Thanx in advance for any further help, I look forward to giving this a go ASAP. PS. anyone looking for this "Couch to 5K" program, go to the home page, click "exercise" and start scrolling down until you find it. Good Luck all, Steve

    For Just Us Guys

Need a lil help here finding a post. Awhile back someone posted (I think in the Men's Room) about walking and working your way into jogging. If this ring's a bell to anyone and you know how to find it could ya please let me know? Tomorrow it'll be a week since surgery, although still plenty tender I feel the need to start some sort of program before going back to work in the spring. Thanx in advance, Steve

    Sex after surgery...

 So I'm sittin here drinkin my Protein shake early this mornin, catchin up on my readin and come across this question that alot of you have hit on and read but no one has responded to. First I ask myself if "MightyQ" could possibly be serious but he obviously is or he wouldnt of posted. Or maybe he was just seein who would bite??? Being realistic, your going in for surgery and the first 24 hrs post-op your not going to be thinkin about gettin laid . WHAT am I saying! It's every man's job to be ready to preform at a moment's notice to show your manhood and show just how worthy you are to be KING of your castle. Dont sweat it, lay low and let thing's happen as they may. Around here, my better half say's she alway's know's when I'm not feelin 100%. That's when I'm at my best! I figure ya had better get it before ya die, sick or not! Put it this way, there aint been no grass grow on the playground since the surgery Feb. 5th! Dont let a lil thing like surgery stop ya, just be carefull. Where there's a will, there's a way! And that's my "Dear Abby" advise for the day! Seriously MightyQ, you may not be so "Mighty" if ya go tryin anything too soon, so take it easy. Wish ya all the best today in surgery, keep us posted on how it's goin. Steve

    Banded Bikers II

This doesnt have anything to do with "the band", but it does have to do with ridin'. Those that have been more than the "weekend biker" in the past, I'm sure can relate to this. Bob Seger's "Roll Me Away" could of never fit better to David Mann's centerspreads. For those that dont know who David Mann is, he did all the centerfold's for Easyrider's Magizine up to his death just a couple year's ago. Originally from Kansas City, my son and I had the great pleasure of shaking the man's hand at a bike show in KC where he was raising money for his medical bill's. Some may have already seen this but it is surely worth checking out again and again. Enjoy, Steve MySpaceTV Videos: Roll Me Away by Burt Corbinson Now I just hope it work's!

    EMS/Fire/Law enforcement

Hey guy's, I'm none of the above but was banded the day after y'all, FAT TUESDAY Feb 5th. Gasses were kickin some ass but have eased off a bit now. First thing I have noticed is I cant burp??? Have all the feelings like I need to but just cant, it's not a big problem just uncomfortable at time's. It was one thing reading about "how it's going to be" post-op, and living it. I've passed more gas this past week than I have in a month! I'm having to make myself drink, scared of drinking to much and coming back up but I guess I should look at it like learning to walk all over again. I need to know how much I can drink, dont want to do this in public! Watching the X-ray of me drinking the barrium after surgery gave me an idea of why they say to sip your drinks. Starting "mushies" tomorrow so we'll see how that goes. Good new's is I'm down about 40 lbs since the beginning of this ordeal. Good luck to all, Steve

Havent seen the grandbaby for a couple week's so guess where I'll be today. Welcome HarleyGirl, 3 feet of snow wow, bet you forgot what it was like to ride! Still takin it easy here and plan to for awhile. Have a good one and ride safe! Steve

    Banded Bikers II

Karen, Hope all is well with you, mine went fine. Only problem was I forgot the Mardi Gras beads for the nurses but told them I would bring them next visit! I posted in the guys section to give an update, also told how I went to an auction today after the wife told me I probably hadnt ought to . . . . . . . . she "might" of been right! I think I'll rest for a few days and then venture out. After all, I have the winter off so why get in a hurry. She's even putting wood on the fire, life's good! Good luck to all, Steve

    For Just Us Guys

Just checkin in to let y'all know I made a VERY large mistake today. Banded on FAT TUESDAY (Feb 5th), and less than 48 hrs later I headed for an auction 2 hrs away. I know, they told me to rest but what do they know! After all, I was just going to an auction . . . . . . . . maybe I should of listened this time. But that's not the big screw-up! My wife called and asked WHERE THE HELL I WAS, knowing I wanted to go to this auction (2 hrs away) and I wasnt at home. I squimishly said I was in my truck on my way back home. NOT A LIE, I was by this time, just not the whole truth. Earlier this evening I told her she was right, I shouldnt of gone cuz it did wear me out. BIG MISTAKE! She has called no less than a dozen people telling them that I said she was right about something. Talk about the "big head"! So you guy's just headed in for surgery, listen to the Doc and take full advantage of the oppertunity to lay low and let your better half wait on ya hand and foot! I found the surgery wasnt so bad but the gas in my upper chest is kickin some ass, but it'll pass in a couple day's. Had some wonderful nurses that I told I had some Mardi Gra bead's for them but went off and forgot them, I will be taking them back with me next trip! Cant say enough about Dr. Malley and crew at New Hope in KC, they did their best to ease my nerves when I showed up and by the time we left they were all rubbing my belly for good luck! I did ask the Doc if he had been out cocktailing the night before without me, said he wouldnt go without me! And his hands didnt seem to be shaking so I told him we could proceed. Good luck to all coming up, it wasnt so bad after all. Steve
