Hi there everyone, i was just banded on 6/3 in mexico, i went with my mom and we both got bands, surgery went well, got home a few days after. I am a nurse in the emergency room so going back to work is going to be challenging. i am feeling pretty much pain free, i have pain at my port site, and when i get hungry i have pain in my left shoulder, don't know why though. my only issue now is that i am starving all day long on the clear diet. can't wait to move on to creamy Soups next week

Congratualtions on your band. Good luck with the recovery and your diet!!! My band was installed with some fill so I did not sruggle so much until about 3 weeks after. Hopefully you will get a fill soon!

Where in Mexico did you have the surgery done? Which doctor? Would you recommend him to others? What was the cost? I was denied by my insurer 2 years ago because they didn't think my obesity-related medical conditions warranted surgery. Now, they no longer cover the surgery - any weight loss surgery. I just talked to my surgeon's office 2 days ago to see how much self pay would be. $21,000 (with 3/4 of that going to the hospital). Unfortunately, that's probably out of the question, but I am looking for more reasonably priced - but safe - alternatives. I think MN is probably one of the more expensive places to have it done unfortunately. Thanks for any info you can share.

I'm not sure where you are located, but True Results is doing them for $9,900. I just had mine done 2 days ago. So far everything is fine. No hunger, but still recovering from the surgery. True Results is great, my doctor was Dr. Benavides and he comes highly recommended. They give you a full year of aftercare, which I thought was great! All the fills needed and support too. You might check into it. They also accept Care Credit and have an in house financing. Let me know what you decide.

Michelle2011 -- where in Mexico? Which doctor? I am looking at Angeles Health International in TJ but would appreciate any 'good experiences' that anyone else had in Mexico. Thanks.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
