I am three weeks post op and am having seriously bad headaches. Tylenol doesn't help either. Has anyone else had these problems?

Do u have any history of blood sugar problems? If so r u on any oral diabetic meds? I get wicked headaches if my blood sugar is low. Especially post op because I wasnt eating much. I had to go off my metformin for almost 2 mo post op, I just restarted it. Could it also b caffine related? I have been known to take ibuprofen for head aches tylenol wont fix, but not very oftern because it can cause ulcers. If I take it I eat with it.

Are you a caffeine junkie like I.was .. I drank four to six diet mt dews a day.. try tea or coffee if you are able to drink them.

I only drink water and don't eat much sugar. I just realized I haven't been drinking my protein shakes bc I forgot. I have been so busy with my five kids. Could that be the reason ?

Protein deficiencies can most definitely cause headaches!

Tylenol is alot worse than ibuprofen. Acetaminophen cause cause kidney damage.

Hi Cindy, I was told no ibuprofen at all or aspirin, only Tylenol. Also I think ibuprofen causes kidney damage. In fact I know it can, because it did for me a few years ago. I had a doctor who prescribed 8 a day because she was an alcoholic and drinking on the job. I got a new dr who found the problem and took me off 8 a day. Tylenol can cause liver damage though.

Omg now I want to stop taking everything and just deal with the pain.

Omg now I want to stop taking everything and just deal with the pain.

I think that most of the damage that these meds can cause is from overuse--either taking too many or taking it for an extended time.

My understanding is that as long as you take pain medication according to your doctor's orders, you'll be fine. Without a band, the rule for ibuprofen is no more than 100mg for every hour and no more than 800mg at a time--so if you take four ibuprofen (which are 200 mg each), you can't take any more for 8 hours. With a band, you should check with your doctor--mine said ibuprofen was fine occasionally, and this post reminded me that I need to ask him about amounts. :)

The very best thing you can do is contact your doctor, talk to him or her about your headaches, and see what you can take and in what amounts!
