I went to the plastic surgeon today. I have a hernia, a rash under my excess skin, and have had 3 c-sections. I thought my insurance might cover a tummy tuck, because of these 3 things, but she said it would be a waste of her time to try to get insurance to cover it!

Time to find a new plastic surgeon. If they're too lazy to help with insurance, they might be too lazy to do a good job on your tummy tuck!

We had a PS come to our Lap band support group meeting and he said that if you document the rash issue that most insurance will cover one kind of TT but not the other. I don't recall which was which, but it does sound like your PS is not willing to do much work for you. I'd look around.

Check with your bariatric surgeon's office. Many times they have someone they refer to when people ask and because these PS know exactly how to write the paperwork to get insurance to pay.

Make sure your PS specializes in working with bariatric patients.

I think the type of TT that Insurance will usually cover is called a Panniculectomy (removal of the "pannus" or "apron" of skin). It's not really a TT, but sometimes they can do a little tightening at the same time.

I could be way off base though on the types of surgeries. No authority at all.

Do get the rashes documented with your PCP or Gyn. That will help.
