I have breast cancer :-(

Hello everyone...some of you guys may remember me...I was banded in 2007, lost about 130 pounds, found out my husband cheated on me, had plastic surgery to removed excess skin, got divorced and now I have been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Throughout my ordeal with my cheating husband, I found lots of support from many friends here on LBT. Well, I'm in need of support yet again. The day after Thanksgiving I felt a lump in my breast. The following Monday I contacted my doctor and they got me in the office the following morning. The doctor confirmed that there was indeed a lump and gave me a referral for a mammogram and an ultrasound (I don't get annual mammograms because I am only 37). The next day I had a mammogram and ultrasound and the lump appeared "suspicious" and they suggested a biopsy. The following day I underwent a biopsy and I was informed this past Tuesday that it was positive for breast cancer. I have since had a MRI and met with an Oncologist and tomorrow I meet with a Radiation Oncologist. I am scheduled for a lumpectomy on Friday, December 17, 2010. It really hasn't hit me yet but I am scared of all of this. The way that things look now, I will not need to undergo chemo but I will have to have 6 - 8 weeks of radiation, 5 days a week.

I am so sorry that you are having to go through this. I will definatly send prayers your way for a complete recovery and to be cancer free. ou seem to be a very strong woman, so keep that strength to fight this! I am very glad that you took care of it right away and got in to see your doctor, hopefully they have caught it early enough that you will recover well.

YOU can make it through this. You took charge of your body once before and lost 130 lbs! Thats amazing, thats a whole person! If you can lose a person you can lose cancer. I know you must be scared and feeling alone. I hope that you will find a support group in your area to help you through this. No one else can possibly understand what you are going through except someone who has been through it. I also hope that if there is another bandster that has been through this, they will offer you support as well.

I am so sorry to hear of your diagnosis. I myself have never had cancer but I can somewhat relate to the shock and fear you are going through and I know what an emotional roller coaster this journey will be for you. My son was diagnosed with Leukemia at 2.5 years old and has been going through treatment for almost 3 years. You are a strong woman, stay positive and surround yourself with your family and friends!!

I am very sorry that you have been given this diagnosis. I, too, have breast cancer. We belong to a sorority that no woman wants to belong to. I was diagnosed in 2002 with stage 1 BC. It was T1 N0 M0. I went on tamoxifen and then after my hysterectomy 9 months later, I went on Femara and have been on it since.

I know you are having the surgery this Friday, but you need to ask your surgeon about having your tumor tested for BRC1 or BRC2 gene and if they can also do testing to see if your tumor type would respond to chemo. They used to give chemo to 100% of the women in the hopes of catching those who needed it. There is much more precise testing that is done now to show exactly what kind of tumor you have. Plus, they usually don't know if you need chemo until they check the lymph nodes during surgery. I assume you will be getting a sentinel node biopsy - this vastly reduces the risk of lymphodema.

If your BC is like 80%, then your is probably ER+/PR+ which would make you a candidate for tamoxifen. You cannot take femara or arimidex until your post-menopausal. It is a very good drug that has a good record for preventing recurrence.

As to the radiation - it is my understanding that many centers have moved away from the 5X/week for 7 week schedule and instead implant radioactive rods or something in the breast. You should ask about this. The longer radiation is not without risks because the area that they do the radiation increases your risk of another type of cancer in that area. I am not saying that to scare you, just to inform you so that you can make informed decisions.

I wish you the best of luck in this endeavor. I am not one of those "cancer is the best thing that ever happened to me" or "cancer is a blessing" group. Eleven months after I was diagnosed with BC, my husband was diagnosed with esophageal cancer and died from it 2 years later. So my opinion of cancer is that it is a horror. I hope that you find the support you need. Ask for it from those you know. And from your oncologist. There are many groups out there.

Tina...I am so sorry to hear this. You have been through so much since I have known you. My thoughts and prayers are with you. To let you know that there is a cleaning service for women who are having chemo treatments. You can Google it. Take advantage of it hon. Do whatever the Dr.s tell you to do. If they tell you don't eat certain foods, then don't! I am on FB. Just friend me and I will help you any way I can. Just ask Brandi if your not for sure who I am. Love you girl!

I don't have breast cancer, I am a Lymphoma survivor. I have had it 2 times. Back in 1999 and again this past yr. I finished treatment in April. I am checked every 3 months. I was there today. They found something they didn't like. So I will have another CT scan in Jan. Hopefully it is nothing.

I have an uncle who had breast cancer and leukemia, so far he has no signs of cancer. He said beating cancer is 90% mental, that staying positive and believing are the most important parts of beating cancer.

You'll get through this because you have the prayers and support of many people and you sound like your a strong person. Stay positive.
