Hi! My name is Stephanie from the Houston area. I am currently looking into the lap band procedure. I have a medical condition that could cause me to lose my sight and the doctors believe weight is a major contributing factor. I have battled this condition for almost 3 years now and have gone up and down in weight through that time. This change is worse on me because the major weight fluctuation is much harder on my body and each time there is a change I become more vulnerable for vision changes. At my last appointment my doctor recommended I look into this procedure since this would make is harder to gain weight and it would definitely help me lose those pounds I never have been able to own my own. So I am in the process of getting a consultation appointment with Dr Erik Wilson from Houston. My question is has anyone used Dr Wilson? Do you recommend another doctor in the Houston area? If I decide to do this, what should I expect? I have so many fears about doing this because of the unknown, but I have already gone through 2 other very painful surgeries in the last 15 months and they haven’t helped, so we are running out of options and my vision is something I won’t accept not having.

Thanks,

Hi Stepanie~

I have not heard of Dr. Wilson. My Dr. is Dr. Spivak in Houston. He required us to go to his seminar before he would even meet with us. It was SO informative!!! He gave the seminar and let us ask as many questions as we wanted. Check out his website for more info www.bandmd.com

Even if you are going to use another DR, his site has good info on the procedure and rules to follow.

There are probably 10 of us here at work that use Dr. Spivak. He was the first surgeon to perform the lap band in Texas and he worked with the FDA to get it approved! His office is very helpful.

I have never had surgery and was scared about the pain, but this was a cake walk. I was sore for about a week, but I went back to my desk job after 5 days. Feel free to email me or PM me if you have any more questions.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
