band poisons me

Recommended Posts

I became nauseated 3 wks earlier. Throwing up, belching. Went to ER and treated for possible bug. 1 wk later, back in ER, same thing. It never stopped. Had IV's, antibiotics, barium swallows, x-rays, catscan, couldn't find a cause nor a cure. Another trip to ER, then admitted into hospital. 3 days later, a GI doc says band needs to go. LAP-BAND®®®®® doc says that couldn't be it. I make the decision. 2 days later, I have it removed. I haven't thrown up since. I feel so much better. My band was poisoning me. Finally, after much distress and pain, my ordeal is over. Goodbye band after only 2 1/2 yrs.

Wow...guess you mightve been allergic to the materials in the band.or the placement of the band wasn't correct.im not banded but I've read alot of posts.more slippage related to vomiting and nausea.I believe the band can make you sick if it slips or its not positioned right.

My body started absorbing the plastics. I was checked twice for slippage and erosion. Band positioning was normal as well. No one knows the long term effects of this on every person. The band could stay for yrs in some and only for weeks in others. I was satisfied with my band up to this point. Some docs just aren't gonna tell you that it might evenually have to come out. I wanted to tell my story so others would have an educated, updated option when deciding on their band.

I'm sorry that happened to you and glad you're doing better now.

Did you meet your goal in the 2 1/2 years you had the band?

Sorry to hear about your ordeal.

This does raise an awful lot of questions to me though... Why would your body all of the sudden start absorbing the materials and what test did they do to pinpoint that it was the band materials causing your condition?

Why anyone's body would just start this absorbtion of materials is anyone's guess. I wish I knew. A GI doc performed EVERY test to elleminate all other causes. I was left with the decision that the band removal was the only thing left.

Hello, I was banded March '08 and I started having joint and muscle pain that came on slowly since Feb of this year. Doc's have tested me out the butt and no answers. I'm wondering if this can be caused from the band? My port area is slightly tender, has been the entire time. [Had the band emptied about 1 month ago.] I'm now on steroids so I can move. I've been nauseated for about 2 months now [no puking] so Doc tested gall bladder and all's well. Also had the camara-down-the-throat test and no erosion. I even had a spinal tap done!! It also came back fine. Could I some how be rejecting this band? My body is attcking my muscles and joints because of this band??!! I called lap doc and told him that I want it removed ASAP. I go this Tues. for a check and I'm telling him I want it out. Is anyone else experiencing similar problems? Neck and severe shoulder pain, deep in the joint and on the surface. Chest pain up to collar bone. Lower back and hip pain, also deep and surface. Knee and the bones in the feet hurting. It's awful!!

Did you have any joint or muscle pain bullpen87?

It is possible that you have some kind of autoimmune disease. This may have nothing to do with the band and is something that may have developed whether you were banded or not.

Be very careful if you decide to get debanded that you do not end up disappointed.Imagine how you will feel if you do get the band removed and you still have the symptoms.

I just know I can't live like this. I gained the 40lbs back I lost so the band's not helping me anyway. Before the steroids I could barely move. Getting out of a chair took alot of effort. With the roids it decreased the pain by like 60%. I still hurt bad, but I can get around a little easier. I'll know more after I talk to doc on Tues. Thanks for your reply, I appreciate it. Darlene

your symptoms sound like the symptoms that women with leaking breast implants had. Perhaps it's the type of material the band is made of???? Just thinking....

It seems like I heard something about that years ago. Those women , I think, were losing their hair and everything!

I'm also wondering if my body's rejecting the band [or material it's made of] the only thing is, I wonder why it took 2 years to start rejecting it? Like you said... I've been doing ALOT of thinking and the band is the only thing that seems could be causing this. Hopefully I'll find out soon. Thanks Murpel

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
