Arthritis medication

I have bad arthritis in my back and knees and my Rheumatologist has had me on Naprosyn 500mg twice a day for several years. My surgeon wants me to go off the Naprosyn before surgery because it can cause stomach problems. I have got to talk to my Rheumatologist but I was wondering if any of you know of an alternative anti-inflammatory medication that is easier on the stomach?

Mobic is supposed to be easier on the stomach but your doc won't want you on ANY NSAID pre-op and maybe not for a while post op. I don't know of any poster (not saying there aren't any) that has been allowed to stay on aspirin or an NSAID. You are in a difficult position and may need stronger pain meds if plain Tylenol doesn't hold you while you are off NSAIDS. I wish you the best and actually hope I am wrong.
