  1. I am a school teacher. I am up on my feet most of the day and I am required to do lots walking. My husband and I agreed that I should take two weeks to make sure I was able to handle all the activity my job requires. I felt I was 95% when I went back 2 1/2 weeks later. Everyone is different...I wish you the best!
  2. I felt the same in the beginning, it gets better. Try to follow your doctor's orders as close as possible. Hang in there!
  3. Welcome! Best wishes on the healthy living journey.
  4. I just started eating salads recently. Sometimes I have no problem getting it down and sometimes I do (but that's most things for me). I say chew, chew, chew if you are going to try a salad.
  5. I can't drink soda (pop) at all :-(. I drink water, Kool-Aid or iced tea with Equal....I love it!
  6. Congratulations Kelly on losing 60 lbs! Everyone loses at a different rate and that's okay. I would love to be one of those fast losers but I figure as long as I am losing weight I'm doing good. I always eat food on a small plate so I did the same on Thanksgiving and plan to do the same for Christmas and for my birthday in January. The key for me is small portions. I wish you the best!
  7. The website you mentioned is very helpful...thanks!
  8. Thanks, I will definitely let my doctor know about the lack of restriction I'm feeling. On average I eat about 1200-1300 calories a day. At this point I would welcome the restriction you have...i need it as well. My goal is to lose about 85 more lbs long term. My goal short term is losing 25-30 lbs by the end of August. I'll keep you posted
  9. I do understand your frustration. I find it frustrating when I am eating what I am suppose to eat, in the portion I am suppose to and exercising regularly - that's where I find myself. Restriction is just as important to me as what I eat and how much I eat. The purpose of the surgery was to help me get the restriction needed so that I wouldn't be hungry all day. If I was able to stop myself every time I wouldn't be overweight or in need of surgery. I am glad I have this forum because we all have been in the same situation at one time or another.
  10. Thanks for your post! I had my surgery March 2011 and I've had one fill. The second fill is in 3 weeks I fill like I can eat anything. It is a consistent struggle to eat sensibly. I am glad to known that someone has reached their "sweet spot" because it reminds me that it's possible!
  11. Nice post! I was banded last month. Here's a few of my non-scale victories... 1. I can pick just about anything in my closet & it fits! 2. I have more energy. 3. I can walk up the stairs at home & work without needing a break and breathing like I'm about to die! 4. That special time with the hubby has been fantastic
  12. Very helpful post...Thanks everyone!!!
  13. I am days 10 post-op....yes I can agree with you. I had the same feeling right after surgery, it was an adjustment but I'm glad that feeling has passed. I'm losing weight and feeling great! My husband said it was the pain medication talking...lol.
  14. I think it's great that you set a goal of maintaining your present weight, still exercising and treating yourself on a special ocassion. We all are or will be faced with challenges/celebrations but we must remember moderation, exercise, and getting back on track eating our regular healthy foods. Congrats to you for your committment to your weight loss goals.
  15. Everyone's experience will be different but I would suggest getting Gas X strips before you go in for surgery. I had severe pain in my left shoulder for the first couple of days post op, it just got better a couple of days ago. Gas X and walking helped a lot! Best Wishes!
  16. I have a similar story to most here...I had surgery two days ago (3/8/11). We arrived at 10:30 am. My doctor was running a little behind schedule so they call me in the back about 11:40 am. I changed my clothes, they took a urine sample, and had me weigh in. I went into a room with other patients (they closed off the room with a curtain) then we started the consent forms. I had to sign about three different forms. The doctors came in to say hi. They sent my husband back about 12:15pm. They put the IV in my hand and about 5 min later I was off to surgery. I remember being wheeled into the surgery room, they put a mask over my face, asked me to take a deep breathe, the next thing I remembered was waking up in recovery. I slept on and off in recovery for hours. The nurse came in to ask me about my pain level on a scale from 1-10. At the time it was about a 7 because of the pain in my shoulder mostly. She came back asked again it was about a 5 she give me a litlle more medicine, then they had me sit up in a chair. I fell asleep again. About 40 min later the doctor came and took me to do a barium swallow, he then cleared me to go home. I got home about 7:30 pm...
  17. Congratulations!! I am glad to hear that everything went well.
  18. I met with the psychiatrist three times so by my last visit, I was clear in a couple of days.
  19. Great news...a new you in the making! I wish you the best! Keep us posted.
  20. I started my prep-op diet last Tuesday. For the most part, it hasn't been as bad as I expected. I have lost 10 pounds since Tuesday and it's only week one! So that has been a huge motivating factor for me. We can do this!!! Best wishes!!!
  21. I can have shakes, Water, tea, coffee, sugar free Jello, yogurt and cottage cheese (in moderation). It's an adjustment but one I believe to be well worth it!
  22. Congrats! Best wishes on your journey...
