  1. Thanks guys for all the wonderful suggestions.
  2. I think it depends alot on your insurance company. I have BCBS and the company obtaining the authorization for my insurance says it will take about a week to two weeks.
  3. Thanks guys!! Any suggestions on a high protein snack with lil to no carbs? Any suggestions on a coffee creamer with low or no carbs?
  4. Well guys... I called my center today and they said I should have my approval the beginning of next week. So I am trying to wrap my head around the high protein pre op diet. My usual diet is : Breakfest - protein shake with low carb Hood choc milk with a little fruit mixed in Coffee with creamer and sugar/splenda mixture Lunch - Salad with romaine lettace and spinach,Turkey, black olives and Ranch dressing Dinner - meat and veggies Snack in the am - Greek yogart Any suggestions? I am not use to a high cal low carb diet and I am so nervous that I wont do what I should and could experience difficulties because of mistakes.
  5. WOW... all I can say is WOW. I can understand people expressing their concerns but have they even tried educating themselves on the surgery? Have they viewed the information on illnesses due to being overweight and obese? Most of my close friends understand the struggles I have faced most of my life and they are in my corner 100%. Even to the point of wanting to do a rotation to help take care of me after surgery. I am thankful for them. But in regards to the way they did this to you... well that has just pissed me off. That was very wrong of them. Not to mention... getting your job involved!! OMG.. that is just horrible. Well... all I can offer you is my support. You are doing this for yourself and for your daughter.... think how your quality of life will change after the weight is off.... And think of your health. Take care and let me know if you need anything..
  6. Welcome Hockey! I too am waiting for surgery. I just finished my 6 month supervised diet and I am waiting on insurance approval. Don't worry... consider this time - preperation. Good luck to you and I will be following your progress.
  7. I also have hypothyroidism. My levels are being checked now for pre surgery just to make sure that my levels are in a normal range. My doctor also says it should not be a factor as long as your TSH levels are in a normal range and you have them checked routinely.
  8. Thanks everyone, that makes me feel better and helps me get into my own head some. :001_tongue:
  9. I have not had surgery yet but I will be havingsurgery probably in the next month. Now that surgery is coming up I feel myself going into a "have to eat" mode. I am not sure why but I think it's almost a panic mode that I wont enjoy or be able to have food anymore. But... it has made me realize that I definatly have a problem with food and brain hunger. How did some of you deal with brain hunger? What are some resorces to help with this>?
  10. I know everyone is different, but I was wondering how much everyone averages every week of weight loss?
  11. wow Paula... I have not had surgery yet but I pray that I can have the success you have provided for yourself. It's amazing.
  12. Hi everyone, I'm new on the site but... I too have hypothyroid disease and when my thyroid levels are off I notice it in my nails dramaticly. But I have discovered that using odorless garlic suppliments HELPS ALOT. You don't even take it orally you just punture the gelcap and put the gel on each nail and massage into your nailbed while watching tv. I suggest doing this every night for 2 weeks and then every other day. It really helps, I swear by it. :tongue_smilie:
  13. I haven't been banded as of yet but I have been active at the gym for over the last year. It has been a ... learning experience for me. Like you I am larger and I have asthma. After hip injuries and back injuries from working out at the gym, I learned that just suttle activity is the important part. Cycling, slow walking, even palaties or yoga. Muscles burn more cal. so maybe just building some muscle mass will help with burning more cal. It shouldn't be that expensive. I had a friend that even took gallon milk jugs and filled with water for weights. She worked her arms and did squats using the couch and the jugs. Hope this helps.
  14. Ginger I am so sorry you are having to adjust to this stress and feeling of betrayal. His parents sound like they would have been watching you no matter what and probably waiting for a chance to make more comments. I wouldn't stress about it. Remember that you are doing this for you and no one else. It doesn't matter what they think or what they say. But....Instead of being upset, go ahead and think of quick responses to the parents or the sister when they decide to make comments. The kind that you can say and walk away from the conversation feeling better.
  15. Hi V... I started my 6 month supervised diet in November. I am 4 months into it now and it really has gone by really quick. I pass the time by preping. I have read books, I'm on the site everyday, and I practice chewing more and eating slowly. All that in addition to cutting out soda and not drinkin while I eat. I really have looked at this 6 months as a prep coarse. I hope this helps.
  16. Wow.. that is a great post. Thanks! I plan on ordering the book right now.
  17. Thanks Leigha that really helps me feel better. I am the same way, I don't really make bad food choices but the amount of food I ca eat in one sitting insane.
  18. Thanks Tazzy, I appreciate the feed back. Anyone else?
  19. I am thinking about all my opinions and the biggest hurdle I have to over come is the fact that I am a big eater. I dont like to be hungry. Will the lap band help with this? Does restriction help with hunger or just with the amount you can eat in one sitting?
  20. Meagan, I have tracked your progress and you are one of my role models for when I finally get approval from my insurance co. I tried the acai berry stuff with the cleanse but it did nothing for me. It might be different because your banded but I am not sure. Your doctor wont allow you to go on a payment plan for one fill? Maybe 50.00 a month or something? At least at 50.00 a month your parents might be able to assist or you can save money through the month. Just an idea.
  21. Megan, I am concerned for you. I have not had the band yet but I can say that I can only imagine how it would feel to lose all or most of my weight and start to gain. But at the risk of your health? That can not be worth it. First you have to address the vomiting and other health issues then address the reason why the band isn't working. I work in the medical field and having a doctor you trust and have faith in is another key to success. Find another doctor. One that will help you get through this.
  22. Hi ladies, I am also pre op. I am 30 years old with no children and I think this is the first time in my life I have truely put myself first. I would love to have some friends to connect with during this process. I'm guessing my surgery will take place around June but I am going through the pre sugery diet requirement. I wish everyone the best of luck!
