1 Year With The Band
Hi Helen, I hope you are feeling better. The most important thing is that you happy with you. You are right, most likely if you didn't have the band you would be in a worse situation weight wise than you are now. Did your dr. tell you that the band is not a quick fix? It really is somthing you have to be totally commited to and you do have to change your eating habits. It sounds like you were not totally prepared to do that, but hopfully everything is fine with your band and you can move forward. Have you been to any band support groups in your area? I highly reccommend that. this forum is great, but being able to have support of other bandsters in a group that you see once or twice a month is really amazing. You get those much needed pep talks and maybe you could meet others in the group that have had a lot of success with their band. It gives you a lot of motivation. You shouldn't have to come on this forum and feel mad that others are doing better. You just need more support. We're here for you, but I would really have a serious talk with your dr. and let her know you are struggling with all these feelings. I really wish you the best and let us know how you are doing!!

Anyone Getting Banded In September?
MJ1996: I have read good things about both bands. I just finally decided to go with the one my dr. has had the most success with. I don't know if I would use an non FDA approved band without doing a lot of research and finding out some true results. What part of Canada are you in? I lived in Calgary for 10 years before moving to Oklahoma.

What Is A Band With Plication

Anyone Getting Banded In September?
http://www.realresultswls.com/laparoscopic-gastric-band-plication/ If you go to this web site and scroll down and read the article it will explain better than I can. This procedue is having even better results than just having the band alone. It looks like a band with a sleeve, but they don't take your stomach out and it is not evasive like the sleeve or bypass. I hope this helps.

Pre-Op Diet Day One
I started today as well for a Sept. 11th surgery date. I'm supposed to have 50-60 grams of protein, 130 to 140 grams of carbohydrates and only liquids, including soup and 1 % cottage cheese. But what I see on here is a really reduced carbohydrate diet. It's really interesting how there are so many different pre op diets.

What Is A Band With Plication
Hi there, I'm having band with plication on sept. 11th. I will try to explain. So you have seen pictures of the stomach with the band correct? ok, so the plication is where the dr. puts the band on, and then then he or she inverts your stomach and stiches it. So it looks like the band with the sleeve, but the good thing is your stomach is not removed like the sleeve, but is the size of the sleeve. This band with plication has even better results than just the band on it's own. It's close to having the sleeve done, but not invasive like the sleeve or bypass. If there was a problem the stiches could be taken out and you would still have a normal size stomach. They are finding that the plication (invirting the stomach to make it smaller), is thought to keep you fuller longer than just doing the band alone, becuase you have a smaller pouch once the food leaves your band pouch. Hope that helps!!! It's getting more and more common for people to have the band with plication.

Anyone Getting Banded In September?
Woooo Hooo, there are a lot of us September bandsters now!!! I had my pre op yesterday and started on the pre op diet today, and yes I don't know if it's just a mental thing, but I am REALLY tired and hungry, but I too am keeping my eyes on the prize. Band with Plication if everything goes well on Sept. 11th. Not that I would cheat on the pre op diet, but after talking to my dr. it wouldn't be an option. He told me you can be doing great several days and really shrinking your liver and then one bad meal it all it takes to go back to the size it was before you started the diet. He said if he gets in there and my liver is large he will stop and won't do the surgery. If that isn't enough to keep you on track!! After 4 months of medical tests, cardiologist and insurance approval I don't plan on doing anything that will keep me from being perfect with this diet. He said it's only happened to him twice, but I don't want to be #3. You know, I'm not worried about the surgery, my biggest fear is waking up and being told he wasen't able to do the surgery!!! Question? Have any of you been asked by your surgeon to have a stint put in so you don't get blood clots? It's actually a procedure that you have to be put to sleep for. As it is, my dr. sends you home with 10 days of injections that you have to give yourself that is a blood thinner. I'm very excited for all of us!11

September 10Th
Hi yankee girl, welcome!!!! Yes, it wouldn't hurt to ask your dr. They are all different in the're requirements, most. drs require some sort of pre-op diet becuase they want to shrink your liver, it makes it easier for them to get to your stomach. It can be as short as a week before surgery to a month before surgery. Some are just liquid, some are sugar busters, i've heard of so many, it really makes you wonder which is the best, but it's just better to follow your dr's. orders, so just ask. I think they all get the same outcome, just different roads traveled. So don't be nervous, it sounds like your on top of things. Let us know what your dr. wants you to do / or not do pre-op, just curious. Your going to do great, we are all getting close!!!

September 10Th
When do you leave DisneyNut? I'm going to enjoy myself but REALLY try hard not to gain any weight, not with having to see the dr. for pre op two days after I get back. It's coming soon, but for now time to enjoy, as you said a VERY eventful September coming up!!!

I leave on Saturday for a cruise with my husband and Son, I get back two days before my pre-op with the Nutrionist and the Dr., I will start my liquid diet the next day when I get back. I'm really going to watch what I eat on this cruise, it' would be great to come back and have lost a pound or two. I can't beleive some of us are only a little over 3 weeks away from our surgery!!! I don't know about you guys, but now that its getting so close, it's on my mind constantly..... Hope all is well with everyone.

Flying And The Dreaded "extender"
Uggggg, this is such a hot spot with me as well. I fly all the time and I know I have to go through the same process all the time. I fly United a lot and they have seats in the front half of the plane that you have to pay extra for to get extra leg room. I usually end up paying for the seats in the front row or the exit rows because they have sides on the seats and you can't "overflow" into the other person's seat next to you. This is very uncomfortable as you can imagine, I also have to walk on to the plane and look the stewerdess in the eye and wisper for the extender. Only once in all the time I have flown did I get someone who I felt was judgeing me. On Southwest I always pay the extra $10.00 per flight to get the "A" seating. I always go directly to the back of the plane. People usually don't want the back so the front and middle will fill up first and sofar I have been lucky enough get a seat with no one in the middle. Having to think about this every time I fly is EXAUSTING!!! I can NOT WAIT till this is no longer an issue for me. I am actually flying with my husband and son on Saturday and I will need to ask for one. My surgery is Sept. 11th and the next time I fly after that is Oct. 31, don't know if that will be enough time to lose enough to not need the extender, but I know that time will be coming, I just need to be patient. I can't tell you how many times I wanted to take the extender with me.......I had no idea you could actually buy one, I sure would have done that not to suffer as much as I have, but have no plans of worrying about buying one now, it's just a matter of time. Love hearing the stories of those who no longer need them......I will cry when it happens to me!!!as
