  1. Hi Chubbola, I am a self pay and was going to have surgery in Green Bay but had a harder time coming up with $17,700 than I thought I would. Anyhow I am now planning on traveling to Denver to Dr. Kirshenbaum, he charges $10,000. I will then need to travel to Madison for fills. I have $5,000 together and hope our tax refund is big! Sunnysea
  2. Hi, I think these Dr's are really being jerks! You can't tell me that everyone that is banded has to get fills from the same place they were banded. I'm sure there are people that have moved across country and are they expected to travel back to their original surgeon!?!? I also ran into this situation here in WI., I am not banded yet but I was all ready + cleared to go with a surgeon in Green Bay but could not come up with the $$$. So I have been looking into going out to Dr. Kirshenbaum in Denver, he is $8,000 less, but when I asked about follow up care with the dr. in Green Bay they wouldn't take me as a patiant until 1 year after being banded. I think this is a bunch of crap! and this was with me paying out of pocket because my ins. has it excluded. Any how I was told to check into finding out if there were any Radioligist that would do it?!?! Good Luck, Sunnysea:)
  3. Boy are you my kind of friend! I would love to go, I love the Carribean, ocean, sand, shell hunting, and most of all snorkling. BUT I am a self pay trying to come up with enough $$$ to get my lapband, maybe next year!?!? Oh yah, I am 49 also. Sunnysea Where is Roatan?
  4. Hi Everyone:) I am from Marinette and am working to get the $$$$ together so I can be a Bandster!
  5. Hi, Here I was approved with Capital One for an amount that would have covered part of my expence to have surgery here in WI. But I could not get the rest together :think So I have since looked into Dr. Kirshenbaum in Denver, I would then have enough to get surgery. So I gave Capital One a call to tell them I have switched Drs., and find out that he is not in their program and doesn't care to be :cry I am so frustrated, Here I could have had my surgery on January 31st. :speechles Sunnysea
  6. Thanks Tami for filling me in, I had just noticed so many lately, I guess I was too busy reading the posts and didn't notice. This site seems to be the best and most active site for info on the lapband. Thanks, Sunnysea:)
  7. Hi, I was just curious as to why so many people have had their accounts suspended?
  8. Hi Shesha, Well I looked into having my fills with NEW Surgical Associates in Green Bay WI. After many phone calls and emails to Mary I was told that they only do a $1,500 1 year fill package but that it doesn't include any tests! Oh yes by the way that is only after you follow up with your surgeon that placed the band for the 1st year!!!!!:angry Isn't that a bunch of crap! Lot of good that would do, what about people that are banded and move to a differant state? They also went on to say that I should be very careful about leaving the area because the followup is just as important as the surgery, and their main concern was for my well being and that I shouldn't take chances with my health!:bored Maybe it's a blessing that I had to cancel my surgery with them because I couldn't come up with all of the cash. It would of been conveinent and the support group would have been nice. I will be very anxious to hear how everything goes for you in Colorado, I think I will give them a call. You said that you live in Northern WI, I live in Marinette WI. Good luck with your surgery:nervous Sunnysea :huggie:
  9. Hi Shesha, I wonder about Dr. Kemmerling doing fills? I know that he does't want to do them on the Mex surgeries. I did ask if they would take payments on his portion of the bill and they said no way! The hospital takes $10,000, Dr. $6,000, and 1,700 goes to the anest...... This is something to look into:) :clap2: :clap2: Thank you SO MUCH Sunnysea:girl_hug:
  10. Thank you so much Shesha! I was wondering , did you have to go out there before for pre-op or any other pre-visits? I have everything ready to go! I would just have to have all of my records sent. What will you do about the followups ond fills? Thanks again for all the info:) Sunnysea
  11. Well I am devastated:( :) I was not able to get the whole amount of financing needed:faint: I didnt expect this problem, here I have everything set to go (medical) and then this! I guess my name needs to be taken off the list for now. My Dr. charges a selfpay $17,700, maybe I need to look elsewhere for a better price and give up convinence. Does anyone know of better prices in WI,MI,MN,or IL ? My surgury would have taken place in Green Bay WI. by Dr. Kemmerling. Sunnysea:straight
  12. I am having LapBand Surgery on January 18th and will be taking off one week of work. I was wondering if it is hard to work when you are on such a limited diet at the begining? With little or no restriction??? I work retail and am running all day, I know that I will not be able to lift heavy things at first. Thanks, Sunnysea
  13. Hi Everyone, Add me to that list! My surgery will be on January 18th in Green Bay Wisconsin, I am a self-pay:( OUCH! I am realy looking forward to this. Sunnysea :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:
  14. HI, Sunnysea here, I spoke to someone from my Dr's office today and explained to her my reasoning on not having a sleep study done until I have lost the weight. Also I mentioned that a year ago I had a Hysterectomy with little concern about my apnea or any problems. She said that this being an elective surgery that the Dr. has to (cross his T's and dot his I's) but that she would ask him about it on Monday and let me know. She also mentioned that they could maybe get me into this Pulminolgist sooner(THANK YOU!) Why they didnt do that right away I don't know??? Anyhow maybe I will be a January Bandster!:clap2:
  15. Hi Everyone, Thanks for all your input. I do know that I have Apnea, I have a BiPap machine instead of the CPap because my Apnea is severe. I called today and now I have to wait until the 10th of Jan. just to see him and then it takes 2 weeks to get another sleep study done.:grouphug: Thanks Again Sunnysea
  16. Hi again, I don't do much emailing , but think this is so cool without sounding dumb! It is 2:15 AM here in Wisconsin so I should be getting some sleep ! I am constantly reading these boards since looking into the lapband. Bye ,:notagree Sunnysea
  17. Hi Becky, Thanks for Your quick response, just wondering are you living in Australia now and if so, what time is it there???? Sunnysea (just curious)
  18. Hi, I have sleep apnea and my surgeon is concerned about it during+after surgery. He wants me to go through another sleep study before he does my band. I had a hysterectomy last january with no problems. This is going to hold up my surgery date because I can't get in for a month with the pulminologist, I am a self pay so I dont have insurance postponing me. I do have insurance but anything to do with obesity is excluded. I was wondering if anyone else had to do this? Also I hope that with weight loss my apnea will get lost also! I work retail and wanted to get this done while it was slow at work. I would appreciate any input, Thanks Sunnysea:)
  19. Hi, This is just something to think about when having anything medical done in Mexico. To make a long story short my father died of a massive staph infection from having a hip replacement done in Texas. And when we tryed to fight by suing because of no antibiotics given after surgery, we lost because he had some dental work done in Mexico the year before and they blamed that on causing his infection, even though the sight of infection was surronding the hip replacement. I realize that problems can happen anywear and its not that they (Mexico) are bad, it's just how different things can affect your life or your families life in the future. I guess when asked about his medical past when entering the Hospital my Dad shouldn't have mentioned the dental work???? sunnysea :think
  20. Hi, I am new to this board. I am looking into getting the lapband done, I have a consult appointment next week. I am worried that my depression that I suffer from will get in the way of me getting this surgery.??? Has anybody been in this situation or not passed their physc test? I will be a self pay, 100lbs overweight, severe sleep apnea, hypo-thyroid, high cholesteral, and boderline high blood pressure.
