I DIDNT KILL ANYONE OR CHEW MY ARM OFF!!
Sounds like you're doing good. When I did my pre-op, protein supplements saved me. The first day was bad, but I just think I didn't have enough protein early enough in the day. Good luck to you. When is your surgery?

Finally, another new low weight.....
I finally hit another new low weight. 159.4 last Friday!!! Could not believe when I looked down and I saw that number. It's been 16 years since I've seen it. I'm becoming something I never thought I'd be, a shopaholic. I love going to try new, smaller clothes at the thrift store. I swear, I am such a convert. Even after I reach my goal weight, I can't see myself buying very many clothes at regular retail prices. Why on earth, when I get really good quality, name-brand jeans so cheap? The last visit, I got four pairs of really cute pants/jeans for $12. Yes!! ...and the sizes are getting smaller!!! I'm so happy I got the band. It still is a struggle and the weight loss is slower than I hoped for, but it's working. I am on that total Thyroid replacement medicine, so part of the slowness is just my body metabolism being messed up because of that. I also know that part is that I could do better with some of my eating. Exercise wise, I am doing great. Last month, I increased my weight lifting, which is helping. Most of all, I'm excited to be doing well with these abdominal exercises I started doing. There's a thing in the gym at work, that you stand on, rest your arms on the 'bars' and grab the pegs at the end. Once you are set, the idea is to step off the bottom and to raise your legs up together, working your abdominals. You can keep your legs bent at the knee or out straight. When I first tried it, I could only do 1 1/2. Now, I can do up to 20 at a time. The problem is because I am so short and my arms are short, it is a little more difficult for me. I have to hold on so hard, pushing my shoulders so hard on the back piece, that it's causing pain in my right shoulder. So, I've held off of doing that for a few days. Another issue I'm having is feeling hungry pretty soon after I eat. Not all the time, but enough that now I think it's time to schedule a fill. I'll try to call tomorrow and schedule that. Hopefully, I can get in soon. Well, that's all for now. Bye!

I screwed up! Had solid foods 7 days post op!!!
You probably should take it a little bit easy with the food, especially at the beginning. Generally, I think as long as you chew anything enough, you should be okay.

Sleeping on your stomach?
It took me a little while to get to be able to sleep on my stomach. A couple or three months maybe. I played it safe. The funny thing is that I can now sleep comfortably on my back, when I never could before.

Carrabba's Italian Restaurant
I think you should give it some time before trying different foods after you get banded. I'm able to eat bread, but I try to stay away from it as much as possible. I eat soup sometimes and don't have a problem with not feeling full. The last soup I had was a canned lentil soup, which was pretty good. Good luck to you.

This hasn't happened to me before since getting the band...
I exercise up to 45 minutes daily during the week and usually not so much on the weekends. I have been trying to do my squats, arm weights & leg raises (w/ankle weights) at home. Although I do think I could probably try to get a little more Protein in, I don't think that was the case the other day. I eat that tostada w/egg & Beans a lot and I've never felt like that since the band. I really do think my body was just telling me something (and I was on my cycle) when this incident happened. I did feel a lot better later that evening.

Can you feel your port?
It seems like I've always been able to feel mine. In fact, it also seems that I like to feel it. Weird that it's almost like a blankee or something. I just like to know it's there. It reminds me that this is real that I have a lap band. A few weeks ago the port area was sore after some exercising, so I just tried to let that heal itself. At my check-up/fill appt last week, I had the PA look at it and she said it looked fine, because the area wasn't red, warm and because it wasn't hurting any more.

This hasn't happened to me before since getting the band...
OMG. I am sooooo hungry and I ate less than an hour ago. I had lunch at 1:00/1:15, a small nack (I don't normally do snacks) at about 3:30 and my dinner at 5:30. Dinner was a tostada shell (round, flat, corn tortilla) w/an egg scrambled into 1/4 cup of my yummy pinto Beans, a tbsp of cheese and some salsa. I ended up also having one of those little SmartOnes (weight watchers) Desserts. It's not just that I'm hungry, it's also that I feel like I haven't eaten much today. I think I may have to have one of the single serve cartons of Muscle Milk for the Protein. I wonder if that would help. It seems like my body has to be telling me something. I really just cannot remember any other time since I got the band, that I've felt like this. I'm sure this has had to have happened to others and I was wondering how you've dealt with it? My head tells me "Don't eat anymore", so that's why I'm thinking to just have one of the Muscle Milk's. Any hints?

Question from a newbie!
I think you should be fine. Congratulations to you (and to you also, fly4kidsrt) on getting the band.
-
I think I've passed the first bandster hell phase
Good job. Keep it up.
-
Is this for real!!!!!!
Hang in there. The weight loss will be totally worth it.

Cake in soft foods phase?
I would think you'd be okay w/a very, small piece, but I agree that you could ask your doctor.
-
how i got here - lap band this week!
Be positive. Don't get frustrated enought to quit if your weight loss slows down and try to use protein supplements on the liquid & soft phases especially. I couldn't have gotten through it without my weightloss supplements. ...and remember to get in exercise.

I got called teeny tiny! Lmao
Awesome! I usually get that I look like I am melting or wasting away and one time someone said I looked svelte. I think I fell over laughing at that one. I can't wait to buy a cute teeny dress.

How do you stop losing?
LapNYC - I think I'll be the same as you, when I get to my goal. I am about (OMG - It just hit me) 43 lbs away from my goal. Congratulations to you!

screwed up
P.S. Try sugar-free jello and see if you can take a protein supplement. The one I took tasted really gross, but it was a life-saver to me when I was on the liquid diet. I took Protein Bullet.

screwed up
Stick with it. Don't beat yourself up about eating the pudding. The band is totally worth it. It has been such a huge help to me (it's not a cure-all; you still have to work at it). I am my lowest weight in almost 16 years and am so glad I got it.

Had to Buy New Jeans :)
Congratulations! I know I've been greatly enjoying buying smaller sized jeans. I saw the comment about Goodwill and I totally agree. I am such a thrift store junkie now, that I can't imagine paying retail for all my clothes, even after I lose all my weight. Why would you want to, when you can get practically new (and sometimes with tags still on) clothes for way less than 1/2 price. Definitely try out the thrift stores.

March 28th....
So, I couldn't think of a creative title for this blog entry, so I'm just using today's date. My weight loss is still slow I think partly because of my thyroid meds and partly because of needing to change up my exercise routine/habits. I went for a fill appt last Thursday and the PA decided not to add any. I was okay with that, seeing as it seems like the biggest thing holding back better weight loss, is the thyroid issue. She suggested working on eating the 3/4 cup of food instead of the 1 cup that I've been doing and also increasing weights during my workouts. I guess it's helping, because I'm waiting for my appt w/my endocrinologist about the Thyroid thing and I've lost about 2 lbs. It is my husband's birthday today and we went to Red Robin. I got a regular size burger, but did not eat any of the bun (just what was in the middle) and only like maybe two of their fries. I really couldn't eat much more. I think I might have been ok with eating a little less of that burger patty though. ...at least I don't eat like that all the time. Only very rarely, do I ever feel really full. It is not a comfortable feeling. I have been doing better with my food otherwise and am actually having a Muscle Milk during the day. I am trying to increase the protein I'm getting and the Muscle Milk helps during the day with having the smaller "meals". I'd like to lose 5 more lbs by the end of April. Fingers crossed!

I have a Fill appointment this week...
I try to eat healthy, although I probably do eat a little more starchy foods than I should. I'm working on cutting back on that. I think generally I do pretty good with my food choices. Although I don't feel that I overeat, I think I'm hoping for more restriction so that I'll eat less. I normally eat a cup of food. I have a lot of trouble thinking of only eating 3/4 cup of food for every meal. Thanks for your input.

Abdominal Muscles and the Port
I had some soreness for a couple days after doing some abdominal, which actually surprised me. I try to stay away from doing much with my abdominals, because I'm paranoid about messing up my port.
-
BEVERAGES
I drink a lot of water and lo-cal drinks like iced tea and Crystal Light type drinks, but I don't freak out about having a higher calorie drink. I just add that to my running total of calories for the day.

I have a Fill appointment this week...
I finally have another fill appointment this week and I am just not looking forward to it. I hope to actually get the fill, because even though I can go for quite awhile without eating sometimes, I'm hoping for more restriction. I only have about 3cc's in my 10cc band. ...but, I also don't like feeling uncomfortable like I do after a fill. Last time the PA had a little trouble with finding the spot on the port to inject the saline. I'd really like more restriction, because it has been a struggle the last couple of months. I'd like my weight loss to start coming off a little faster again. Yes, I do exercise everday for about 45 minutes, with the exception of the weekend, when I usually do just a lot of squats, stretches, arm weights & some walking. I think I need a little encouragment to make sure I stick with making the best food choices I can.

Jean shopping..
Awesome! I totally love looking for smaller clothes now. I'm down a few sizes myself and my favorite stores are now thrift stores and yard sales. I guess I am at the point where I don't care where I get my clothes. I got like two pairs of jeans and a sweater for like $2.00 last weekend. Granted, one pair of jeans and the sweater are way too small, but I got them for next winter, when I hope to be in that size. Good luck to you.

AIR TRAVEL DAY AFTER SURGERY
I don't think that would be for me, but I would think it is do-able. You'll hopefully just be uncomfortable and not suffer from any bad side affects after the surgery. I hope you'll have someone with you to help you on the plane. Good luck to you.
