Sharp pain in right side...
Oh my gosh! I am having this same problem Lace! My sharp pain is closer to my groin area, in the right lower quadrant of my abdomen. I've been having this pain since last Thursday, but it got worse. Occasionally, it'll go away. It feels better to be on my recliner than to be laying in bed or sitting in a normal chair cuz I feel like I'm sitting too straight. I too, was close to tears! I called my surgeon's office today and spoke with the nurse practitioner. She said that it doesn't sound like the pain is related to the Lap Band itself, but could be gas, or bowel trying to move (it's slower from the anesthesia). She also said it could be appendicitis and that if I have nausea, vomiting, a temperature, or if the pain gets worse to go to the ER. I hope your pain goes away soon Lace! Good luck!

Newly single and a bit lost...
Hi Lellow! I'm kind of going through the same things. I have been with my boyfriend for almost 11 years, since I was 17 years old. Sometimes it feels like we're just growing apart. I think he has depression, but won't seek help. He doesn't bathe, he doesn't want to go out, he hates his job...etc. I try to get him to get help, but he doesn't want to listen. It's starting to wear on me. I had my surgery May 13, 2010. I keep hoping that when I lose the weight, he'll be happier too, but I somehow doubt it. You're right when you say that losing the weight may not fix everything in your life. I keep hoping that things will work with us, but I'm not so sure anymore. I'm glad you were able to buy your home and have custody of your kids! I know it has to be scary to be out on your own and single again. You just have to ask yourself "We're you happier in the marriage, than being alone?" "Are you missing him cuz you miss him, or because you're lonely?" It may be hard to adjust to for awhile, but you'll find someone who will make you happy! Actually you don't even need a guy to make you happy! Just have fun being single and enjoy your children! Lots of luck to you! :tongue2:

pain in my right lower quad
I'm having this pain in the right lower quadrant of my abdomen. I've had it for the past few days. Not sure what it is. Anyone else ever had this? not sure what to do? I feel bad about bothering my surgeon's office if it's nothing.

5 days post op - questions
that soon post op, you really shouldn't be exercising, but you should be getting up and walking around as often as you can. This isn't for exercise, but to prevent blood clots. Trust me, you don't want a blood clot. I'm a nurse and have seen alot of them! My surgeon told me to wait at least 4 weeks post op to do any kind of exercise, other than light walking as tolerated. The first week, I had watery diarrhea, probably because I could only have Clear liquids. I would say this is normal considering I'm eating nothing solid. I have been mixing 1/2 scoop of Body Fortress whey Protein with 4 ounces of skim milk. This gives me 17g protein for each shake I have. I couldn't handle the powder in Water. If I could've, one scoop has 26grams protein by itself. A girl on this forum gave me a website to find diffrerent protein supplements. www.bariatriceating.com. It's scary cuz it's hard to find protein supplements that are easy to tolerate! Good luck!

nervous and discouraged
Thanks guys! I am just going to keep sticking with the full liquids. I think I am more hydrated too since I have been able to tolerate s/f liquids better. That's probably part of it. It's just frustrating when I am doing everything I am supposed to be doing, yet nothing is happening. My post op f/u is also on Friday Prat72. Not sure what to expect there. I'm not allowed to work out yet Nean. My surgeon said not until 4 weeks post op. I bought a new MP3 player and am looking forward to getting started though! Good luck to all of you and thanks for your time! :smile2:

what happens when food gets stuck?
Thanks guys! I hope to not experience this, but I'm sure I will at some point. LOL NewMeComing! I was picturing your seven year old looking at you with "eyes the size of golf balls". I have a six year old niece who is my best friend and I can't even imagine how she would react if something like that happened in front of her. Thank you so much! Good luck in your journey!

nervous and discouraged
vlp1968 you could not be more right about weighing myself everyday! That has always been a bad habit of mine. it didn't take me a week to gain it, so I shouldn't expect to lose it so fast! Thank you for your words of encouragment. I need that today.

Should I be worried?
I was told to not bend over too much for the first two weeks post op. I have seven rabbits, two chinnies, and a guinea pig who need fed. I bent down a couple of nights ago to open one of the rabbit cages and felt a really sharp pain at my port site. I got really scared, but everything seems fine. It just make realize I have to be more careful. When stitches are outside the body, they are taken out 7-10 days post op. Yesterday would've put u 9 days post op, so everything is probably fine. Your muscles are still healing and are going to be sore and weak. If the pain would keep up though, I'd call your Dr. to be safe!

nervous and discouraged
Thank you so much for the message Crabby! I feel better cuz we were banded the same day and have almost the exact same weight loss! Are you still on a full liquid diet? I am until Thursday. I see my surgeon Friday. It's really hard not be eating, yet not be losing weight. I'm sure you understand! I just have to keep trying. I never would've lost those twelve pounds on my own! How did you get that weight loss tracker things on your profile? I can't figure out how to do it. Thanks again for the message! Good luck! :smile2:

nervous and discouraged
I was banded on May 13. In the first nine days, I lost 12 1/2 pounds and now I'm stuck. I have done really good in following the diet, but am still stuck. I know I should be happy that I lost the weight I have already and I am. I'm just scared I may not lose for weeks or something. Has anyone had this trouble? It's really hard when your doing nothing but drinking liquids and still not losing. Thanks for your time guys!

Banded yesterday.. wooow the pain!
The day after surgery, the gas in my stomach hurt so bad, I thought, 'what the heck have I done'!?! Day by day it got better. I was banded on May 13. I no longer have that bloated feel or chest pains from the gas. Walking around REALLY helped me. It's tough right now, but the pain will definitely go away! Good luck!

Banded May 13? Please share progress....
Hi Lace! I was banded May 13 also. I was sore getting up and down for the first couple of days too. I had to stay one night in the hospital. I work as a nurse and do alot of lifting. My surgeon told me not to go back to work for ten days, but since my post op appt isn't until May 28, I can't start work until May 29. I have lost eleven and a half pounds so far. I'm so excited about that! I started on a full liquid diet today. For breakfast I ate a yogurt and had a protein shake about two hours later. I was supposed to start the protein shake an hour after breakfast, but I still felt really full. I had alot of trouble with pains in my chest and belly from the gas...no shoulder pain either. Good luck with everything guys!

question about protein shakes
Hi! I started drinking protein shakes today. I tried Body Fortress Chocolate PB Whey Protein. I tried it in eight ounces of water with one scoop of protein (26g protein/130 cal). I couldn't stomach it..it was HORRIBLE! I dumped it out and started over with four ounces of skim milk and a half scoop of whey protein. This gave me 17grams of protein and 110 calories. I know I'm to have at least 15grams or protein per drink so I think I'm okay there. Do you guys think it's okay to make the shake so small in quantity? I could always make the fluids up in water.

5 more days...
yo2118 I know exactly what you mean. When I told ppl that I was getting the Lap Band a few of them would ask me why I was taking the "easy" way out. Idk about you, but I have tried and tried to lose other ways and have failed. The Lap Band is just a tool to help get the weight off. The weight won't just fall off...you have to work with it. You still have to watch what you're putting into your body. Every pound you lose is a pound you lost on your own...the band doesn't lose the weight for you. As for feeling hungry...I haven't really been hungry at all. I just started full liquids today and had four ounces of yogurt...that was plenty! I will say though that I never realized how many food commercials were on TV! lol I have been told that getting fills regularly when you starting feeling hungry more often is a must! Right now for me, seeing the scale go downward is so much motivation. I don't think you'll feel hungry with the band. That's also why I got it, to control my portions.

If I could do it over, would I get a lap band??
There are so many more risks for gastric bypass. I have a couple of friends who almost died from complications of the bypass. I have also taken care of ppl that have had bypass that are so sick and malnourished they have to receive TPN (food through IV). I have a friend who had gastric bypass...she can eat anything and not get sick. She weighed 350 pounds when she got it done, got down to 198, and is now 250 again. She has no trouble digesting foods.

Hello Everyone!
I know the feeling Amy. You make the decision to have it done and then there's the wait. Trust me..it flies! I started the process in October and was banded May 13. It's a long journey, but it'll go fast! Good luck!

My New Beginning
Congrats BrandiG!!! I remember that nervousness of waiting to see if my insurance would say yes. When they did, I was ecstatic! I got banded May 13. I think it was one of the hardest, but best decisions I ever made! I am so happy for you! Good luck!
