  1. Do most people have this procedure done before the lapband surgery? I am really scared of having an endoscopy. :nervous
  2. My first husband left me for another woman because I gained alot of weight during the 5 years that we were married. Totally broke my heart. But if that was'nt enough, I called my brother crying to tell him that my husband had left me and my brothers reply to me was...."Well, have you looked at yourself in the mirror lately?" It felt like a double wammy, and if that was'nt enough, my mother said that my brother was just telling me what everyone else was thinking..third wammy... :)
  3. Hello, My name is Janie, in Nov last year, I got a "Surgical consult" denial letter from pacificare hmo saying that I had not gone through the six month nutritional program. So I started that in Nov and I now have only 2 1/2 months left before they will concider talking to me about what to do next after the 6 months program. I was wondering if you think pacificare will let me do all the other pre op appointments like psych, surgeon consult, sleep study...ect...before I actually finish my 6 months, maybe my last month in the program?. I just don't want to waste any more time waiting for appts that I can get while I am doing this 6 months of nutritional counseling? My thought is that we can get all of these tests done now to save time and waiting after I finish the program in a few months, I hope this makes sense. I feel so excited and any extra time wasted is like torture waiting to get my wonderful lapband tool. I work at the hospital where they do the lapband surgeries, so they are getting to know me slowly. They are all very nice doctors and nurses.

  6. Ya know Cascadian, I really want to thank you for this response. I don't have much in my life, but I do have self respect. At this point in my life, I would rather not have to kiss my husbands ass just to remain on his health ins. I am planning to file for divorice next week and ask one of the hospitals where I work, if they could find more hours for me and make me a full time employee instead of an outside contractor. I am determined to get the surgery and nothing is going to prevent me from moving along. I also want to thank everyone who perticipated in this thread and gave me some real things to think about. You people are best!!! Thank You, Janiee:)
  7. Been married for 4 years, no kids. We do have some fun times, but mostly a very dull life together.:straight
  8. Hi Everyone and thank you soooo much for your advice, comments and thoughts. Here is a quick history of why he is so mad at me. I have tried to figure out why he threatens to take me off of his Ins policy. I know that he is still mad at me because I hounded him to get 12 more hours at work so that we could have full benefits. He was working 24 hours a week for three years and with just 12 more hours we could have pretty good Ins. So he relunctantly got another 12 hours added on and he is still mad at me that he has to work 12 extra hours a week. All in all it's really 36 hours a week(three 11 hour shifts a week and now we are covered.(my husband hates to work) well so do I but I work a full schedule and go to school. So this is my punishment everytime he gets mad at me. He threatens to quit work or drop me from Ins. He says he dosent care one way or another if I were to get the lapband surgery. He also says that he dosent think I will leave him after I get the weight off. here is a typical conversation~ Are you unhappy that I am on your health ins policy?-NO Do you want me to have lapband?-I don't care Do you think I would ever leave you after I lose the weight?-No Can we have a real talk?-Not now I'm busy Can we go to counseling?-You can He doesnt talk alot, quite reserved, holds in everything but I bet the bottom line is that he is still mad that I hounded him for two years to pick up 12 more hours so that we could recieve full benefits. And now I am getting hell for that. Oh he is not physically abusive but goes for several days without talking to me when I have done something to make him mad, and most of the time I have no clue what set him off. I guess that since the health Ins and lapband are so important to me right now, he is using those as tools to punish me by threatening to pull the plug on my journey.
  9. Thanks so much!! I am wondering if I should just kiss his butt until surgery? He will not go to a counsler:mad: Or just say forget the whole thing and find other means and be in debt. I knew I could count on you awsome people!! I am leaving and coming back friday so I can't wait to come back to see more advice and words of wisdom!! Janiee
  10. I am so upset. I am almost halfway through my six months of supervised diet to get approved with my ins and everytime my husband gets really mad at me he threatens to take me off of his ins. I am on his ins plan because I work for myself and getting ins for myself would be way too expensive. Today, he picked up the phone and started to call the ins co. and I ran out of the room crying. He knows how much this means to me and he is holding it over my head.:cry Any advice? Janiee
  11. What great news Lizrbit!! I will be crossing my fingers for you that everything goes real smooth:)
  12. Has anyone ever had their surgery through the "Center for Weightloss Surgery" right next door to Northridge Hospital in Calif?
  13. Thank You Lisa. It makes much more sense to me now:)
  14. The surgeon who will be doing my surgery stiches the band to prevent slippage. Is this what every surgeon does? I am curious about the band slipping and how it could happen?
  15. I have an HMO, so my primary doctor sent in a request for a bariatric surgery consult. I was denied because I needed to do 6 months of supervised diet. I called my Ins company to see if there was anything else I should be doing and the woman said, "I don't know"...I have questions but they don't seem to have any answers:confused:

  18. Has anyone been on the Ins mandatory six months program called Healthy Roads? It is a telephone coaching program that you have to do before you are approved for the lapband.
  19. Good Gracious!!!!!!!!!!What a let down. To think you were going in for surgery on Feb 12 and then told you have to do the six months diet. At least they are letting you start from the beginning of Jan. This is my worst fear, that after the 6 months, they will either say no, or make me go through other things that will take more time.
  20. Judy, Do you think he suggested the D switch because it is a more expensive procedure and he could get more $ out of you? I am only thinking that because I used to work with a woman who was about 380 lbs and she had the Lapband.:huggie:
  21. Margo, My Ins is making me go through the six month program also. I have already gone through a month and a week and it is going by fast!! Also, the dietition is giving me great advice of healthy alternatives to eat now and when I get the band. Hang in there because six months is'nt really that long compared to the years you have struggled with the weight. Hugs to you, Janiee
  22. My Ins is sending me to Dr. Mark Paya over at Northridge Hospital. I keep hearing wonderful things about him. I have 4 3/4 months left of the six month diet coaching program until they will let me have the surgical consult and the lapband surgery. I am soooo excited!! Please let us know what you think of Dr Paya:)
  23. One month down and five more to go. :bananapartyhat: Praying that I will be banded in June or July!!
  24. Hi Friends, I am starting my second month in the ins 6 month mandatory diet program. I am going to be as truthful as I know how. Knowing that I have 5 months left, I am finding myself eating more and not caring because I am assured that I will get the band after the six months. Maybe I don't fully understand what the six month telephone diet program is for. I am so excited to get the band that I can hardly concentrate on the weight loss counsler and all of the healthy tips that I have heard time and time again. I know whats healthy but I need a physical restrictive implanted reminder not a reminder from a one a week telephone call with a nice lady telling me to just eat one piece of whatever and then walk away....I am sooooo ready but getting anxious because I want this done now!!LOL!! Has anyone ever felt these feelings when you went on the 6 month program before the surgery? Thanks for any replys:)
  25. What a darling poem. It brought tears to me eyes. Good luck with everything and I want to hear a recovery poem!!LOL!! Thank You for sharing with us.
