    Looking for May Bandsters

I was banded on 05/13, with a 10cc band, and am wondering where others are at with fill. I am currently at 3 1/2, and not having much restriction at this point. I can pretty much eat anything I want, and consiously have to stop myself from eating more than a cup of food...I don't get full, which is one of the reasons I got he band. I have lost 27 pounds so far, but the last 10 have been very, very slow, and I have to work out hard, and hour at a time, several times a week to get a 1/2 pound a week loss...and I'm eating healthy, for the most part. I go in on the 18th of this month for my next fill. Im thinking my PA has been awfully conservative about how much fill I get.
  2. Hi Michelle. Have not heard from you in a long time, sure hope everything is going well for you!

    First Fill

I had surgery on 05/13/10, and my first fill on 06/22/10. However, I only have 2 cc's in my 10cc band. The np told me that I can come back in in 2-4 weeks if I felt no additional restriction...and, I don't. I can eat anything I want, and make myself not eat too much...I could eat more, but am trying hard to remain committed to making this work. I find myself asking "why have the band if I have to still control myself so tightly?"...has anyone else had any experience in having too little of a fill? Isn't the point of the band to feel constricted?
  4. By the way, no problems at all with the fill. NP did a little lanocane, I flexed my stomach muscles, and it was done.

I'm now released for any activity, so plan to start the slim in 6 program, and biking to work..hope it doesn't take long to get back in the saddle. You take care, and let me know how things are going for you...hope you are still losing weight and feeling positive!

  5. so, down 24 pounds since early this year, and 17 since surgery. Concerned that it has slowed down substanially. By the way...found a recipe for black bean brownies on line....they were AWFUL! the reviews said that people, including kid, could not tell the difference, but I have to say....I can tell the difference. I like beans, love beans for that matter...not in brownies, evidently!

  6. Hi Michelle. Hope all is going well with you. Well, I am still hungry and and now have 2 cc's in my band. The np told me that since my first fill, since I was losing weight, she was only going to give me 1 cc (evidently had 1 cc in the band) more. I explained to her that I was losing weight because I was struggling so hard, but it was in vain...1 cc for me this time. She said I can come back in 4 weeks if not losing weight.

  7. I did pretty good in MTH 60, managed to garner a B. I'm a bit of an over-achiever, and had hoped for an A, but it was not to be. So, now I am self teaching myself about polynomials, with the hopes of getting out of paying for math 65, and test into math 95 in the fall...I will hope for the best! It does help me by diverting me from food, but I will be glad when I can get on my bicycle again and head out for a bike ride. I plan to begin riding my bike to work July 1st also, at least 2 days a week...it's not a long ride, but that combined with the walking at lunch, then aerobics 3 times a week, seems to me to be a pretty good amount of exercise for this little fatty.

Well, am going to go. Will weigh in tomorrow. Will hope for the best, at least hope I didn't gain anything back. Worried, but working on reminding myself that again, this is a journey and I will likely have a few setbacks. You too...be kind to yourself and I will likely post after the fill on Tuesday....ttyl.

  8. I think part of the reason I am eating too much this week (besides the obvious tom issue) is I know I am getting a fill on Tuesday and I expect to be back on protien shakes for a few days...then, I also expect to be a bit more restricted, so I think I will be motivated to not over eat...right now, I can overeat, and just be uncomfortable. Next week I might actually throw up (which I have not done at all) if I am stupid....and, I do not want to throw up. I'm going to try to get myself back on track this weekend, and stay at about 1000, maybe 1100 calories...that seems to be pretty good for me. I am now walking about 45 minutes at lunch. I live in a hilly area, so walk a block level, then up one block, and then so on....I'm lovinlly calling it interval training. I have a new workout system, Slim in Six, and plan to start that the first of July.

  9. hmmm, I love brownies! Just about my most favorite dessert of all time. Let me know how they turn out, and I will look into making them. I go on Tuesday for my first fill, and they told me that they would likely do 2 cc's to begin with. I agree with you that it is crazy to have the band so tight that you can't eat reasonably. For me, the whole purpose of the band is to help me learn to eat very slowly (so the longer it takes, the less I eat) and to help me not feel physically hungry for longer periods of time. It is NOT for me to starve to death and not be able to eat good food.

  10. Hey Michelle, so nice to hear from you...you know, 16 pounds is nothing to sneeze at in 4 weeks, that's pretty darn impressive. I am on my period this week, and my eating has gone to the pigs, for sure. I bet I ate my way through about 1500 or 1600 calories each day for the last few days...its' bad, and I'm afraid to weight in tomorrow morning. As crazy as this sounds, I feel like taking some metamucil tonight so I can poop before I weigh....crazy talk! This is the second period since having the surgery and the first one was not so bad, but this one is dreadful.

  11. actually, it was MTH 60 I took this term, not 50. Fingers flying too fast!

I really missed hearing from you this week, as I feel like we have made an connection and are about the same place in so many ways....it's really nice to hear from you!

I suggest you look at upping your calories a bit more...you are obviously working out daily, remember walking is a whole body experience. I plan to start "Slim in Six" workout videos the first of July, which is 6 weeks post op for me...they told me also to wait 6 weeks. And, remember, we just dealt our bodies and metabolisms quite the shock, it takes a little time to adjust...I see so many success stories on this site, and we are still young and athletic, we also will be a success story! ttyl

Take care, write when you can,

  12. But algebra has kicked my butt. I managed a B this term, but it was a struggle. MTH 65 is the last 5 chapters of the book I currently have, so I am trying to teach myself ( I actually learn better on my own, doing rather than being instructed) this section, retest at the college in the fall, and hopefully test into MTH 95. ONce that class is accomplished, I have my general studies AA. Then I plan to take MTH 111C, which is a more advanced algebra class, which will give me an AA in both science and arts, and ensures that I transfer into any Oregon college or university with junior status.

  13. Of course, I had put off what I didnt' like back then, so along with some fun electives to finish up now, I have to get math and science sequences in. I took care of the science 2008-2009 school year, and am taking care of math now...I was a high school drop out, and never learned algebra, so this last term I took mth 50, introductory algebra. Now, I am not an idiot, and have been fortunate to learn very quickly and easily everything else in my life (well, except for eating right!)

  14. the water backed up in my esophogus, and I felt like I was going to have a damn heart attack! As well, I had an overwhelming urge to burp, but nothing would come up....I thought I was going to puke right there in my office wastebasket! Needless to say, I am chewing, chewing, chewing and if someone has to wait, oh well!

I am also trying to finish my AA transfer degree. Istarted the damn thing in my 20's, and decided a couple of years ago that I was so close, I should just finish it up, transfer to Oregon State and get my BA in social service

  15. I will get my first fill on the 22nd, but I'm not really expecting much, except that I hope to be full, longer...I hope to get to the point of being able to eat about a cup of food, 3 times a day, and maybe have a little snack here and there...only good food though. I actually had a little stuck incident this last week, and it did NOT feel good! I was eating some shredded chicken with a little mayo, at my desk, and someone came in..I swalled too big a bite, trying to be polite. Well, a couple of minutes later, I felt this horrible pain/pressure in my band...I could tell that something was not moving through right. so, I took a drink of water to try to flush it through. Big mistake!

  16. Wow, I feel like we have so much in common! Go figure, small world. Well, this week, after upping my calories to between 975 as far up as 1250 (only one day), I lost 3 pounds this week. Down to 225, which is 24 pounds total now! My calorie average is about 1075 a day, and I am eating about 1/2 to 3/4 cup at a time, about 6 times a day to keep the hungrys away. I'm walking about 40 minutes a day during the week (on lunch) and thankfully, the weather is now turning warmer...I lived in Barstow (hell on earth, from my perspective) for a short time, and here in TD the summer weather is hot, but not too hot.

    Upset.....

Hi. I had my surgery on May 13th, and I think I am actually "mourning" food. I'm not really restricted, since I won't get my first fill until June 22, so it seems like I have very minimal restriction, and am hungry alot. The only thing that seems to keep the hunger at bay so that I don't consume too many calories is to continue drinking protein, which I don't really like. But, it keeps the hunger at bay, for the most part.' I also feel like I should have lost more weight by now, since I am now eating only about 1000 calories a day...and that makes me cranky! But, as Hotenuf2 says just above, we just have to keep keeping on and it's not meant to come off fast...I believe, from reading other posts, that it is normal to mourn the loss of food and spend some time addressing the emotional issues that cause me to want more than I need. Good luck!
  18. by the way, I actually know how to spell "grateful". It's amazing what you miss when typing and thinking at the same time :).

Try some beans with salsa and cheese! I'm sure that is "mushie" stage stuff. I had never heard about mushies til coming to this site; I was just told the liquids for two weeks, then whatever my body would tolerate....I'm still in the pretty soft food stage, although I eat crackers (the new wheat thin cheese ones taste really good, and are really crisp).

So, have a good weekend...going yard sale shopping with my friend this weekend, and algebra homework...Cant remember if I told you I was a student or not, but this next week is my finals in algebra...interesting to be in college at my age with a whole bunch of kiddies...kinda fun. Take care and look forward to hearing from you!

  19. however, I will try harder this next week to exercise more...it has been quite windy and rainy (unusual for this time of year) here in The Dalles, so I have been skipping getting in my daily walking. I betcha that contributes to my 1 pound. By the way, I am finding that if I swallow too big a bite of chicken, it actually hurts when it is going through my band...and, sometimes (cause evidently I am a gulper) it actually feels like it gets stopped, and I am have to sit up very sraight and will it to go down...preparation for when we are tightened, I'm thinking...

  20. Wow, I never heard of port flipping before. Is that something you saw on forums here? Is it exactly what it sounds like?? I'm ok with needles, but from what I have viewed on u-tube, they really look monstous...the nurse told me that when I go in for a fill, they will surface numb me, and that it shouldnt hurt.

Well, I was hoping when I weighed this morning for more, but I lost 1 (whopping, mind you!) pound this week...I am aware I should be greatful for what I have lost, but it sure seems like at about 1000 calories a day, I would lose more...

  21. I'm taking quite a liking to putting chicken breast, chopped up, with a little canola oil may, on the multigrain crackers...it is satisfying! I decided to only weigh in on Friday mornings now, as so to not become negative about daily fluctuations in what the scale has to say...so, will know this Friday am if adding some calories has started the weight loss back again...as far as I know, I am down 20 pounds from February 2010 weight; 13 since surgery. My clothes are a little looser, and my hubby says he can tell when he puts his arms around me that I am smaller. And says he can see in my face.

Well, nice to hear from you...will let you know this Friday if success has arrived!

  22. Hey Michelle - yes, I do still have some "pulling" type soreness at times around my port site. It's probably because I think I am wonder woman, and do too much, too soon. I'm eating better now, getting about 1000 calories a day. I am still having 1/2 protein scoop in my cup of decaf in the morning, just to get me started, but seem to be able to get enough protein from yogurt, refried beans, cottage cheese and chicken. Only have been having the beans for a couple of days, and although they give me aliitle gas, I feel like at least I am getting some fiber in...and

    Constipated!!! Help!!!

Hi, I'm wondering about fiber suplements...prior to surgery, I ate about 40-50 grams of fiber a day, and had regular and large bm's to show for my efforts to eat healthily. Since I have started now eating "real" food, I am only getting between 10 - 20 grams. I have not been constipated, but am only having a bm every two or three days, and am worried about getting enough fiber...is suplementing with beneful, or metamucil ok? It wont bulk up in my pouch, and block me?

    getting hungry

I'm also getting hungry often, first fill is not til June 22. I lost 13 pounds since surgery and am now just hanging out...last two days I have started to eat more also, thinking it is because I was not eating enough...managed to get in a healthy 1000 calories yesterday, and likely going to be 1200 today. Hope to see the scale start moving down again.
  25. I don't think I am eating enough, because I have quit losing weight. I am now logging on FitDay.com to keep track of calories, protein (doc wants 100 grams/day), calcium...have a few days where I didn't even get to 800 cal, and doc told me up to 1000 cal/day...working on it.....less hungry now than ever in the past, which is interesting. And when I do feel hungry, every couple of hours or so, just a little bit seems to satisfy the beast.

Have a great rest of Memorial Day weekend...really, its very nice to have a buddy to share this with, so thx!
