  1. Let us know how you're doing...we're all pullin for ya!
  2. What exactly are you afraid of...I'm getting it done on the 10th of November and I am afraid of nothing but dyin! Bring on the hair loss, bring on the pain just keep me alive. So to soothe my fears I went about doing my own mortality study and here's the facts: new lap band studies as reported by Bariatrics Today indicate that 3 of 16,000 died from Lap Band...all three were injuries to the stomach performed by surgeons who have done less than 20. Further, here's a great number 1 in 100 die of a hip replacement, more than 1 in a 100 die of hernia repair, 1 in 5000 die of simple liposuction! I'm saying this surgery has amazing odds! I'll be scared to death til the minute I'm put under, but I have faith that I'm coming out of it to a far better journey!
  3. I concur...I've having Lap on 11/10 and I've spent like 20 hours out here I've read in several places that people who had hiatal hernias had them repaired at surgery...so hey that looks like a great twofer to me Good luck and welcome!
  4. :) I'm being banded on November 10th next week I start two week liquid diet. I'm self pay so this has all happened quickly, but I've done hours and hours probably days upon days of research. Here's the thing, though, tonight I laid by my son who's five...I adopted him from birth and I was thinking of the promise I made to his biological mother to take care of him forever. At first, I thought this surgery is sure the way to extend my life and be there longer for him (despite reading an article in a magazine yesterday that bariatric surgery should be done only for cosmetic reasons that they had proven it gives you no more than two extra years) ... then my mind went to the idea that maybe I'm not going to be there like I promised because I'm having elective surgery that could take my life. I feel like I'm making the right choice, but sometimes my mind drifts to the other side...others experience this? how did u get through it? does anyone regret getting the band? help please! surgery soon
  5. could someone tell me what these are???
  6. Yeah my family isn't on board either...my husband asked friends' of ours this weekend if they'd help take care of our son if I passed away right in front of me! YIKES! I've read a lot of research this operation seems safe and effective .... I'm gonna try to go through with it with confidence and courage...my doc send me an email today (Dr. Curry in Cincinnati) he said find a copy of the song "Don't Worry Be Happy" play it and relax...how cool is that I think I'll read it ever time I get scared!
  7. I am finally scheduled for the banding...something I've fought doing in my mind for years. I had RNY scheduled 6 years ago and backed out. I'm hoping beyond hope that I don't get cold feet here. I have a wonderful doctor who has taken the time to ease my fears and give me extra comfort...that's so important to me. What's interesting for me is that I read all of your posts and you're all so excited...and I'm scared and excited, but scared first! I read that someone with anxiety disorder (I have that problem as well) asked for some relaxation medicine, and I'm thinking that might be a good option for me as well. Any advise, thoughts or words of wisdom are always appreciated.
