  1. I have heard of slippage due to a car accident....it was posted on here at some point. A car accident with a major impact to the abdominal area. I'd personally have it checked out now rather than later. Glad you're okay.
  2. I agree I think this should be separate forum. I realize that originally this was the intent of support but support is sooo much more that you can't fish through all of it to find prayer requests. And, I went to prayer request link that you gave me (thank you) and noone posts on it cause we can't find it. How can we set up a forum for Prayers??? Anyone???
  3. CHICAGO - Want to spend less at the pump? Lose some weight. That's the implication of a new study that says Americans are burning nearly 1 billion more gallons of gasoline each year than they did in 1960 because of their expanding waistlines. Simply put, more weight in the car means lower gas mileage. <TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 border=0><TBODY><TR><TD align=middle></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE><SCRIPT type=text/javascript>if (window.yzq_a == null) document.write("<scr" + "ipt type=text/javascript src=""http://us.js2.yimg.com/us.js.yimg.com/lib/bc/bc_1.7.3.js></scr" + "ipt>");</SCRIPT><SCRIPT type=text/javascript>if (window.yzq_a){yzq_a('p', 'P=AfYYwkSOwhWZggC6RT.pHAMiRd9JKEVA_qsADbnN&T=197m86onc%2fX%3d1161887403%2fE%3d8903239%2fR%3dnews%2fK%3d5%2fV%3d1.1%2fW%3d8%2fY%3dYAHOO%2fF%3d1238585045%2fH%3dY2FjaGVoaW50PSJuZXdzIiBjb250ZW50PSJnYXNvbGluZTtnYXM7aHVuZ2VyO29pbDtmdWVsO2hlYWx0aCBjYXJlO0FtZXJpY2FuO2dvdmVybm1lbnQ7SXQ7RWR1Y2F0aW9uO2l0O2hlbHA7IiByZWZ1cmw9IiIgdG9waWNzPSIi%2fS%3d1%2fJ%3d2647BFD1');yzq_a('a', '&U=13a4ul1uk%2fN%3d9N4uDNG_fyI-%2fC%3d540700.9387654.10123690.1442997%2fD%3dLREC%2fB%3d3906314');}</SCRIPT><NOSCRIPT></NOSCRIPT> Using recent gas prices of $2.20 a gallon, that translates to about $2.2 billion more spent on gas each year. "The bottom line is that our hunger for food and our hunger for oil are not independent. There is a relationship between the two," said University of Illinois researcher Sheldon Jacobson, a study co-author. "If a person reduces the weight in their car, either by removing excess baggage, carrying around less weight in their trunk, or yes, even losing weight, they will indeed see a drop in their fuel consumption." The lost mileage is pretty small for any single driver. Jacobson said the typical driver — someone who records less than 12,000 miles annually — would use roughly 18 fewer gallons of gas over the course of a year by losing 100 pounds. At $2.20 per gallon, that would be a savings of almost $40. Outside experts said that even if the calculations aren't exact, the study makes sense. "If you put more weight into your car, you're going to get fewer miles per gallon," Emory University health care analyst Kenneth Thorpe said Wednesday. The same effect has been seen in airplanes. Research from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that heavy fliers have contributed to higher fuel costs for airlines. The obesity rate among U.S. adults doubled from 1987 to 2003, from about 15 percent to more than 30 percent. Also, the average weight for American men was 191 pounds in 2002 and 164 pounds for women, about 25 pounds heavier than in 1960, government figures show. The study's conclusions are based on those weight figures and Americans' 2003 driving habits, involving roughly 223 million cars and light trucks nationwide. It will appear in the October-December issue of The Engineering Economist, a peer-reviewed journal published by the American Society of Engineering Education and the Institute of Industrial Engineers. Jacobson, an industrial engineer, conducted the research with Laura McLay, a doctoral student in his Champaign-Urbana lab who now works at Virginia Commonwealth University. They estimated that more than 39 million gallons of fuel are used each year for every additional pound of passenger weight. The amount of extra fuel consumption blamed on weight gain since 1960 — 938 million gallons — would fill almost 2 million cars with gas for an entire year. However, that is only 0.7 percent of the total amount of fuel consumed by U.S. passenger vehicles each year, Jacobson said. The estimates "are probably pretty reliable," said Larry Chavis, an economist at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. "I don't know if it's going to encourage anybody to go out and lose weight to save gasoline, but even for individual families, it could have an effect on their budget." Dr. Jeffrey Koplan, former <FORM class=yqin action=http://yq.search.yahoo.com/search method=post> </FORM>CDC director and chairman of an Institute of Medicine report on obesity, said the findings are almost beside the point. "The wrong fuel is being focused on," said Koplan, now at Emory University. "If you're heavier, the most important fuel you use more of is food." Eating less, driving less and choosing more active means of transportation would reduce gas consumption, and also help reverse rising obesity rates, he said
  4. Welcome PRBrooksie and Asmallerchick!!!! I'm a November bandster too on 11/10. Welcome to the forum and keep in touch.
  5. I'm using Dr. Trace Curry in Cincinnati, Ohio...he's several 100 of these surgeries and is well known in the Midwest. In addition, he is here with us in this forum frequently and taking his time to help all of us...even those that weren't his patients. I would highly recommend that you check him out before making any final decisions...if you haven't already.
  6. Has anyone here ever thought of starting a group prayer so we can list each day those that are receiving surgery in the upcoming week and pray for them??? Just a thought.
  7. I concur....Dr. Trace Curry in OHIO no questions about it!
  8. I strongly recommend Dr. Curry in Cincinnati, Ohio. My family would have never condoned my going to Mexico PERIOD....so that wasn't an option for me...and quite frankly I guess I'd much rather be here. Dr. Curry frequents this site as well as OH and is always here to help us. NOT JUST HIS PATIENTS, but everyone on here in need. To me, that speaks volumes about his character, his commitment and his experience. The difference between 10k and 16k to me is like gambling with the air you breath. I always believe the saying, and have learned over and over in my life...you get what you pay for!
  9. I can confirm that Dr. Curry is indeed busy...after all I'm one of his rather "high maintenance" patients :nervous In saying that, I'd be remiss if I didn't tell you all that I couldn't be happier. I feel blessed to have found Dr. Curry and highly recommend his service. Here's why: 1) You already know he's a great guy; 2) His staff is equally as great; and 3) When I went for my pre-op testing in the HOSPITAL (not clinic) that he does his surgery in...holy cow everyone in there was over the top nice! I felt sooooo loved!! So whether you have to drive or fly...always remember Cincinnati is a great city..children's museum, the second oldest zoo in the country, awesome shopping, an aquarium, and don't forget you could even see the Bengals or Reds.
  10. Without arguing over the safety/complications. There is no doubt it's safer than any other WLS alternative. The article posted by Dr. C on 7/11/06 on this forum pretty much states the facts from the recent study. You want the lowest mortality rate and the least severe complications..it's the band!
  11. I think the emphasis should be placed on MOST OF THESE PROBLEMS HAVE BEEN FIXED / REDUCED WITH SURGICAL TECHNIQUES. A couple of things regarding that...surgeons install the band totally different than they did when the surgery started for less slipping and complications. In the original study 0.2 percent died. Currently the statistic is 3 and 16,000 all from surgeons who had done less than 20. So I'm saying yes the study findings are new...the sample, however was old and the surgery has vastly improved.
  12. Getting rid of diabetes is the BIGGEST REASON I'm doing this surgery! Now it can be your reason too
  13. My PCP is highly against any appetite suppresant he said everyone is very dangerous and puts you at a much increased risk of heart attack and stroke.
  14. I'm paying $16,500 but I have a very experienced surgeon in the Midwest.
  15. Folks with fever and flu like symptoms...if we are hearing this in lots of folks with the Band what's up?
  16. Liquid Diet Ideas Anyone?
  17. I do believe strongly in the power of prayer...so thank you SallyJo for your continued prayers. God Bless you.
  18. Okay now I'm worried...I told my surgeon that I quit smoking on October 12th. I've stayed faithful to that but that is only stopping 29 days out ...alot said they were ordered for two months. Hoping I won't have breathing problems post surgery.
  19. Whenever I get nervous I find relaxation in dreaming about the other side...being able to tie my shoes easier, no seatbelt extender on airplanes, riding a rollercoaster with my son, no more handicap stalls in the ladies rooms, breathing easier, and so on....I'm scared too, but I find comfort in knowing there is a better life out there for me!
  20. I'm curious about why you didn't go with Dr. Curry for ur surgery...he's done close to 400 and has an excellent reputation...did you hear something otherwise...he's doing my band on 11/10.
  21. We're getting this done a few days apart... wish we could give hugs for support! How are you doing? Positive thinking? Negative thinking? Where are you at?
  22. Haven't heard from you are u doing well?
  23. What's ur surgery date...I'm November 10
