    Is Lapband Removal Dangerous?

Hello I do not understand why someone would tell you the lapband can not be removed??? My band was put in 8 years ago and lost over ninety pounds and maintained the weight off. Last December I was experiencing a lot of heartburn and very little was going down. It turns out my band had slipped. My doctor informed me the band had to be removed. My band was removed in April and a new one was put in. The band is working once again and doing well with my new band. My surgery lasted 3 hours due to so much scar tissue. I would get another opinion. Good luck Ayme

  3. Sorry to hear your story. My band was put in eight years ago and lost 90 lbs. In December I was vomiting and couldn't keep much down and also had a lot of heartburn. My surgeon took an x-ray and my band had slipped. He removed some saline and came back in 3 months but the band did not reposition itself. This April I had it removed and a new one was put in. Have not had a fill yet. Still healing from the three hour surgery due to a lot of scar tissue build up from the old band and presently taking antibiotic due to a slight infection. Hoping to have a fill soon. Trying to stay positive. Good Luck!!!! Ayme
  4. So sorry to hear your story. Have they done an x-ray lately? I had my band put in eight years ago and have done very well. I lost and total of ninety pounds and have kept it off. A few months ago I was feeling a lot of discomfort and vomiting a lot. My surgeon took an x-ray and my band had slipped . I was so upset! On April 28th of this year I had it removed and a new one was put in. SO its important to make sure your band is still in place. I wish you the very best and good luck! Ayme
  5. Don't worry the gas pain will eventually go away:) I was banded for the second time on April 28th. My first band was put in 8 years ago and just recently discovered it had slipped! My doctor had to remove the old band and put in a new one. This surgery lasted 3 hours due to so much scar tissue build up from the first band. I had no gas pain my first time around but boy did I get some with this surgery. It lasted about 2 weeks and it went straight to the right shoulder and then it traveled to the left. I had to sleep upright with three pillows. It did finally go away and sleeping more comfortable. Hope you are feeling better by now. Best wishes for a full recovery:) Ayme

I am so sorry to hear everything you have gone through with the band. I had my put in 8 years ago and recently my doctor discovered it had slipped. I was so upset. I had lost 90 lbs over the years with it and managed to keep it off. Five days ago he removed it and replaced it with a new one. So far so good! I pray that it will continue to work. Tomorrow, Tomorrow...

Welcome to all ! I had my surgery four days ago and every day feeling a little better. You are absolutely right, the worst pain is the GAS!!! So make sure you walk as soon as you are able to. This is my second band. I had one put in 8 years ago but recently discovered that it had slipped . So the doctor removed it and put in a new one. The surgery lasted 3 hours due to a lot of scare tissue. I am doing well and I am very optimistic that it will continue to work. I lost 90 lbs with the first one. Best of luck to all!!! Ayme
  9. Hi all! I understand all of your concerns! I have had my band in for 8 years and lost and have kept off 100lbs. In December I went for a follow up and discovered my band had slipped. Very nervous about removing it since its been in there sooo long. I thought about not replacing it and just have it removed but its a tool I need!!! I have gain some weight back, so it's something I need to keep. I hope it will continue to work!! Very nervous about this whole new journey. I feel all of your pain. lap band removal

Lori congrats! You have done a great job. I have had my band for 8 years and recently found out it has slipped and will be removing it and replacing it. I lost just about 100 lbs with it. My first instinct was to remove the band because I did not want to have surgery again. My surgeon loosened it in December and I have been slowly gaining a few pounds. I know now I need this tool to keep the weight off. I can't let it go! I just hope the new one will continue working. I myself would never even think of having the gastric by-pass. That surgery is just not for me. This is a decision only you can make. I wish you much luck and just give yourself time to think it through. Best wishes:) Ayme
