Accountability thread for October Bandsters!
I just got home from my jailbreak, my knees and elbows are scratched and I was so muddy they sprayed me off with a fire hose when we were done. I promise its been a while since I was hosed off. I didn't finish last, I was about 10 min ahead of the last finisher and I beat my sons girlfriend. I used a waterproof camera so I will post pictures when they are developed. It was a lot of fun. I am looking forward to the next one in March.

banded, banding, bands--verb--To assemble or unite in a group
Good morning everyone. I am like Crystl, I read everyday but I really don't have anything important to add, I am staying between 132 and 135. I had one day that I was 137 on a Monday but I knew that I had not eaten enough to gain 2 pounds so I just ignored it and was back to 134 two days later. I have gone back to drinking wine and I haven't exercised in a week, my life has been very stressful for the last week or so. But my eating is good, since I had the .2 unfill I can eat anything, so I have started eating a bagel thin with my Breakfast. I have been canning and I canned some blueberry butter so for the last few days I have been having a bagel thin with a fried egg and blueberry butter for breakfast. It fits in my calorie budget so I am happy about that. I have decided to become a food snob and only eat foods that are fresh, frozen or canned by me. (With the occasional restaurant meal) I canned some Peruvian Beans that are really good and I am going to make some different relishes and sauces to put on meats to add variety to our dinners. I will post some pics when I do. Tomorrow is the jailbreak race that my son, his girlfriend and I are going to run. 3.8 miles through mud, over obstacles, and through mazes. I hope I am able to finish, I am starting to get nervous. Well I better get ready for work, its time to make the donuts.

Needing a slight UNFILL BAD!! But scared to gain weight back!!
Congratulations on joining the ranks of food snobs. I am not eating anything that doesn't taste wonderful, life is too short to eat crappy food.

How much food is enough?
I put 2-4 oz of meat (weighed on scale), 1/2 cup veggies, 1/4 cup of starch on my (little) plate then I eat until I am no longer hungry. For a long time, I struggled to eat it all then I finally learned that its OK no to eat everything on your plate. By weighing and measuring you will learn what a correct portion of food is. Before I was banded I had a very distorted view of how much I should be eating, I would cover my big dinner plate with food and then eat it all. For instance I would eat a 12 oz steak, a large baked potato (probably 2 cups worth) and a cup of green Beans. So I would basically eat 6 times as much food as I should have.

Anyone else going through this?
What stood out to me is that you are not eating during the day. If you do not eat during the day your brain thinks its starving so it tells your body to over eat at night. Start eating on a schedule. Breakfast 9 am 250 calories, snack 10:30 am 150 calories, lunch at noon 250 calories, snack at 3:30 150 calories and then dinner at 7 pm 250 calories. If your out during the day, fix a small cooler with these things in it and at those times. Eat on schedule, come hell or high water! (I'm in Texas too!) It will help you at night. Let us know how it goes.

COMPULSION to eat?
After I was banded I found that I had a compulsion to finish my food. If there were 2 bites left I felt a need to eat them or I tried to make someone else eat them. I also found that I had a "value system" when ordering food, I thought there had to be a big portion for it to be worth it. I selected food from a menu based on how big of a portion it was. It took a while but I worked through these things and stopped doing them. (Most of the time.)

In need of some serious advice!
Oh look, your dating a grown up! Someone who can get past personal hurt and forgive someone. I always think someone is still "attached" if they insist on being mean to each other. It takes way more energy to be mean, you have to still care a lot to take the time to do it.

Accountability thread for October Bandsters!
KCG, What is your name? (I feel funny just calling you by KCG.) I'm glad to hear your doing well with your eating. I am 134 this morning, I have been eating well but drinking wine most nights and not exercising at all. Its been stressful at work and I have been fighting with my husband. But I have been canning vegetables and fruit which I really enjoy so that is keeping me sane. I hope everyone is having a great week.

Have you looked at active.com? They have a sports nutritionist who talks about being hungry after a work out. Here is a link. Active Expert: Nancy Clark RD CSSD: When should I eat after a long, hard workout? | Active.com

New guy, due up 9-28-10
Erick, Congratulations on your decision to get banded. I wanted to share with you a wonderful side effect from my surgery. My son is 15 and has been overweight on the Dr's charts for years. About 2 months ago, when he saw the changes that I have had, he decided, on his own, to stop drinking sodas and to cut back on junk food. He told me this past weekend it has been 2 months since he has had a soda. I am so proud of my success with the band, but I am even prouder of the fact that I have influenced my son to take control of his health at a young age too. I hope the same for you and your family.

Should not have read surgery stories. Need reassurance
I had surgery on 10/20/09 (Tuesday) at 10 am, rode home 2 hours from Dallas around noon, rested at home, took the pain medicine that night so I could sleep, rested the next day, just kind of laying around on the couch and then went to work on Thursday. The pain in my stomach was similar to starting a new gym routine from scratch and being sore from that and I had pain in my shoulder that was similar to a sprained ankle.

Halloween Challenge
Don't worry it gets better on regular food, I gained on mushies and then started losing on regular food. I should qualify that means regular food as in quality, healthy food not regular food as in processed fast food.

Astrasmom passed away
Todd, She loved her Dr. he drove 45 min to remove her fill before she had her surgery. She would be happy that you were using him as well.

Renewed vigor!
Big difference in hips and thighs this month. Congrats!

I need some help and motivation
I do not lose weight on processed foods. Can you take your lunch instead of eating at Wendy's? Or Wendy's has a side salad, you could bring a pack of tuna and sprinkle it on their side salad with a little dressing for a better choice. I keep those flat packages of tuna with me at all times with a plastic fork, it really helps if you get caught without something healthy to eat.

I've lost something
Thats why god made silicone. Now if only I can find the money to buy some....

Halloween Challenge
Bumping up the spreadsheet, sometimes google is down and they don't work, and you have to come back later.

Is there a chance this will happen to me?
For me to lose I have to be below 1000 calories a day. I never journaled my food before I was banded (as a matter of fact, I didn't until a couple of months afterward) but I estimate that I probably was eating and drinking 3000-4000 calories a day with a high percentage being carbs and sugars from processed foods. So even if I cut my portions by 1/3 I was still over my calorie threshold and I would not lose. Mathematically you cant eat Pasta, bread, and sweets and get your calorie count under 1000 a day while still hitting your Protein and other nutrition goals.
-
Is there a chance this will happen to me?
Probably not. There are some who have bad band placement or other health related conditions that keep them from losing but some people also are in a state of denial. When I was first banded and not losing I told my husband "But I am doing everything right!" and he was like "um, no your not" so I started journaling my food and was amazed at how many calories I was still eating. I also see a lot of people who expect to "eat the same just less of it" and lose all their weight and are unhappy because they aren't losing or losing slowly. For me the key is, when your not losing, keep changing stuff until you start losing again. Eat better, exercise more or harder. There is a place where you can lose, the question is are you willing to do what it takes.
-
what happens when you reach goal
I got to my goal size and decided to quit losing but I was having a hard time eating enough and lost another 2 pounds so I had .2 cc removed and now I eat more. I weigh every day and I am between 132-135. If I am closer to 132, I eat more, if I am closer to 135, I eat less but I exercise the same. Disclaimer: I have only been at goal for about a month so this is just what I think will work..

Needing a slight UNFILL BAD!! But scared to gain weight back!!
Claire-- Try a warm bath, its what I use when I got stuck and was too tight to take liquids. If the bath relaxes you enough, have a glass of wine. If the wine relaxes you, drink as much water as you can before you go to bed. I know, wine is not diet friendly but if it gets you till Monday, that helps. Go get a partial unfill on Monday, no matter how far it is. ( I drove to Dallas on a Sunday once, 2 hours, for an unfill, I know what a pain in the butt it is.) If all else fails go to the emergency room and get an unfill there. Keep us updated on how your doing.

So, a LP patient goes into a bar . . .
Cranberry juice is good and most bars have it, looks like a cocktail with not to many calories and some vitamins to boot.

banded, banding, bands--verb--To assemble or unite in a group
I have been trying to post to this thread for 2 days! I guess LBT thought I should take a break. Melody-- Its great to have you back! I'm glad you got your fill. I'm sure it will help a lot. I have no idea why we put off trying on new clothes, it seems like every time someone does they find out they are smaller than they think and its a great boost. I am happy for you. Denise-- I hope you are feeling better since the tooth is gone. Crystl-- Congrats on the 2 pounds. Shammah-- "so if I want to get pregnant I should apply for grad school and then bam--baby.:rolleyes2:" Um, it takes one more step than that..... Thanks for fixing the spreadsheet!
