  1. I think your expectations were too high. It seems like you expected to get the band in and "that will be that". (I am not trying to be mean, please don't take my comments the wrong way) Maybe you should revise how you think of your band. Instead of wanting it to "make you feel full", maybe you should look at its purpose as "makes you not hungry". I only eat a measuring cup of food at a sitting. When I am finished I am not full, but I am not hungry anymore. Your not suppose to be full, full makes stretched pouches. The band journey is a diet at first, if you want to lose weight you have to diet, measure your food, count your calories, and exercise. After you reach the weight where you are comfortable you can relax the diet and eat more. I hope my advice helps you to look at your band in a different manner. Maybe if you use your tool in a different way it will work better for you. Hugs.
  2. It usually takes more than one fill to get restriction, however, you need to start eating one cup of food or less at a sitting so that you start training yourself how to eat. Even if you have to eat more than 3 times a day. I posted a blog that shows what I usually eat during the day. I hope this helps.
  3. HB--Eventually they always get what they deserve. HA HA!
  4. Denise, I am going to have to pass on your new "diet". Thanks anyway. I think. Chick, 19 days without a day off! Holy crap! Karen, I know what you mean about being hungry. I have been hungry all week. I have gone over my 1000 calories on 2 days and its only Friday. I just ate 2 fried eggs and a piece of bacon to try and fill me up for a while. I cant decide what to do about a fill. My 6 month anniversary is on Tuesday. Which means I can get another fill on Monday or Tuesday for free and after that they are $200 each with floro or $100 each without. So my cheapness is wanting me to go get the free one, but I am afraid it might make me too tight. I am getting hungry too soon, but I am having to eat so slowly. I know that I will need another fill soon so should I go now and get like .5 for free and risk being too tight or wait until I definitely need it which will probably be a week to 10 days and pay $200? I need y'alls opinions!
  5. He can just take out .5. I was too tight and had just a little taken out and it made all the difference in the world, I would suggest to get a little taken out before you get to the point of being inflamed. Don't wait too long.
  6. I saw this on the factcheck.org website and it really reflects my opinions. I just wanted to say how much I enjoy your site. I am so sick and tired of all the misquotes, distortions, and outright lies that masquerade as news today. Critical thinking and rigorous examination have been replaced with entertainment and emotional content. At the end of the day, I want to know that I have accurate and truthful information with which to base my decisions on and not just talking points that confirm my preconceived ideas or biases. Keep up the good work. Jerry Salyer Jacksonville, Ill.

  8. The kidney pain makes me wonder if your getting enough water, if not it could also be the cause of your fatigue. Are you journaling your food and water intake?
  9. For a snack to qualify it needs to have 1g of protein for every 10 calories.
  10. Hey everybody! Well I am assuming that I am going to be on a 10 day plateau, I lost 3 pounds in 3 days last weekend so that usually means I will stay level for a while. There is a chart on Loseit that I wish I were technically smart enough to post here, I bet Bob knows how but I don't. It shows my weight loss from the time I was banded and is really cool because when I start freaking out because its been 7 days since I lost I can look back and see that I am still doing the same, it just seems like I am going slow. Perception is reality! If you think your doing well, you are, and if you think your not, then your not! Denise, I'm glad your doing better. Anne, A pound is a pound that is one less that you have to go! Christie, Thanks for the sugar lesson I see so many people on here who are hooked on it, I was wondering if it had a physical origin. I hope everyone is doing well, I got a new computer program for work and did the training today so my brain is burned out. Sorry if I missed anyone, I am going to have a glass of wine tonight and relax.
  11. You should also keep in mind that a Doctor makes much more money from GB than lap band. So you want to make sure they are giving you the advice that is best for you, remember, never ask the car salesman which car you should buy, he is going to tell you that you should buy the one he needs to sell the most. Investigate and make an informed decision for yourself.

I see a lot of questions about what people eat, so I thought I would post my usual menu selections. Breakfast is usually 1 of 3 things. 1) 1 egg and 1 piece of bacon 2) EAS low carb Protein Shake 3) Jachut's Green Smoothie (1 cup water, 1 cup fresh spinach, 1/2 banana, 1/2 apple, 1 scoop Unjury unflavored protein powder pureed in blender) Snack, If I am hungry I have either 1) 1 Cheese stick string cheese 2) Laughing cow light cheese wedge with 6 crackers 3) Greek yogurt 4) EAS shake Lunch 1) A piece of fish (4 Oz by weight) 2) Leftover meat from the night before, (2 Oz if beef) 3) If I am busy at work, Starkist Lunch to go or a can of sardines with 6 crackers. I add a veggie to one of the meats above either leftovers from the night before or canned that I can heat up easily at work. Afternoon Snack I choose 1 from the snack list above Dinner (usually cooked on the grill) 1) Beef 2 Oz 2) Chicken 4 Oz 3) Fish 4 Oz 4) Pork 2 Oz I measure my meat by weight and my veggies by measure cup. We cut up fresh veggies and put them on the grill too. I make sweet potato's in the microwave and eat 1/2 of it with butter. I usually have 1/2 cup veggies and 1/2 cup carb. I try and keep my breakfast, lunch and dinner at 250 calories and snacks under 150 each, this gives a grand total of 1050 per day max. Plus anytime I am trying to see if a snack is appropriate, I use the rule of thumb of 1g protein per 10 calories. I hope this helps someone, I will be happy to answer questions.

  15. Here is what I eat (mostly), I looked into the Lindora but it seemed like a diet, I think I needed a different way to eat so I didn't do it, now if I could just get them to stop emailing me! 16. Hey Cindy, If you want to start a new tread to ask a question, go to the main page, and click on either Introductions or PRE-Operation Lap-band Surgery Questions & Answers tabs in the big blue box and then after it takes you to the list of threads look on the left side, underneath the search box there is a button that says "new thread" click that and it will give you a box to type in. I hope this helps. Leigha

  18. I have a question, maybe y'all can help me with. Can eating sugar really set up a physical loop making you want more? Something to do with insulin? And if you stop using it all together you stop craving it? Is this a myth or is it medical fact?
  19. Sure, I will be happy to. Breakfast is usually 1 of 3 things. 1) 1 egg and 1 piece of bacon 2) EAS low carb Protein shake 3) Jachut's Green smoothie (1 cup Water, 1 cup fresh spinach, 1/2 banana, 1/2 apple, 1 scoop
  20. Ginger, Here is the link to the spread sheet, add your name and starting weight (you could use last Monday for a starting point if you remember what it was) and how much you have lost as this week if you want. Or just use your weight today as starting and skip the first week weigh in. http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0AsgpZlc1QKD1dGt0ME5VODNUaVZzODFONW1kZEhMX0E&hl=en
  21. I will be happy to help you, I do want to point out that I was banded 10/20 and I have lost 48 pounds (preop diet included) and I think I am doing really well. As of last Friday you have had your band for 24 weeks, thats 2.3 pounds a week, I think your doing better than average. Do you feel like you are not eating right or need help with exercising? Let me know.
  22. It sounds like you and I are the same, I weighed 195 when I started this process. I weigh 147 now (yeah!) and I am going to lose somewhere between 10-17 more. I paid $10,200 and it is worth every penny. The last time I was under 150 was over 16 years ago. I don't care if you are 195 or 295 being obese sucks and I wasn't going to take it anymore.
  23. Good morning everyone! Well I worked in my yard for 6 solid hours yesterday and I feel like I got ran over by a truck! I skipped the bike ride to work this morning because I wasn't sure I could make it. I weeded the back porch bed which is full of ivy so it takes a while to hand pick out the weeds. Then I got my veg. gardens ready and planted. I had to put up string around them because apparently labs think that the only reason people till the dirt is to make a cool place for them to lay down. Here is a picture of my scavenged iris. They have grown 6 inches just since I planted them on Wednesday! Bobbie--Over the last few weeks I have decided that a calorie is not equal to every other calorie. I see people posting that they are losing slowly and only eating 1200 calories a day but when you ask them specifically what they are eating, their diet contains mostly packaged food. I think to lose the most weight, you have to use whole foods. HB--I hope your water heater just quit and didn't flood. Water heaters suck! I would like the mountains as well, I like the wild look of the mountain gardens. Amy--I advise slow and steady on the fills, I think the longer you let it acclimate to your body the better chance you have of the band being trouble free. Dottie--Sometimes a "not gain" is as good as losing. I think this is what gives me hope for the band. I can't diet for the rest of my life so if I need to stop for a while and recharge the band keeps me from gaining, I think this is the key to stopping the yo-yo. Denise--I hope your better from the dehydration incident. I thought potassium had something to do with blood pressure regulation, I guess I will have to look it up. I have been worrying about not getting enough vitamins, I worry that the multivitamin is just like processed food so we don't take it in as easily. So I started the green smoothie this morning. I wasn't too bad, so I ordered the unflavored protein powder from Unjury to use in it. I found this really cool website that gives nutritional data. I thought y'all might be interested. 24. I lost 3 pounds this week! Getting outside is really helping me.
