  1. I would tell him that you've made your decision, this isn't a 'fix' - it's a tool to help you lose and keep the weight off. Does he have a computer? If so, tell HIM to google 'sleeve' weight loss surgery, and read until his heart is content. If he doesn't have one, he can visit the local library, they have computers. It is not your place to convince him of anything. I called my father and told him I was going to do something, he might not approve, but I was going to do it anyway. I am 50, I do not "NEED" anyone's approval. Support is 'grand' but approval, no. Amazingly enough, he IS supportive. Good luck to you, and be strong. I mean seriously, you are not asking him to pay for it, so he needs to mind his own business.
  2. Not at all, no eggie taste. Go to GNC or Whole food and get a sample sized packet to try one or two. I had it in Water and even added some coconut extract to the vanilla one, along with some ice to give it a pina coloda taste. The egg white - unlike the whey ones, have no flavor.
  3. My appointment for the seminar is April 6th - I'd love to know what to expect as well. I hope someone answers you!! Good luck!
  4. I mixed the sample packet (trying it out), vanilla, with Water, added a little vanilla extract, some coconut extract....was really good, kind of like a pina coloda and 4 carbs I think! I've also done it in the blender similarly, with a banana, some pineapple and coconut extract, but I know that ups the carbs a little....a few ice cubes to thicken it up! Yum!
  5. I'm giggling. I'm from Texas, where beef is consumed almost nightly, which I'm sure contributed to my being scheduled for the sleeve....and fried cow testicles are a delicacy, so boiled horse and cow hide isn't gagging me, and I'm sipping it now! :thumbup1: Thanks for clearing this up, I wasn't sure....the whey Protein Powder is hard to get down pre-op, I'll have to see how it goes afterward!! The Jay Robb egg white protein is my favorite so far!!
  6. What about Jay Robb's egg white protein, is that ok, or does anybody know? Why is the 'whey' preferable, or IS it? Also, I am trying out a 'bullet' right now, I have a fruit punch flavored mixed with grape Kool-Aid and a Stivia it's not bad, but I think I read something about (I'm pre-op and trying different protein) the collagen being a problem post op....does anyone know why?
  7. that is where I'll be having surgery in June - who is your doctor?? I hope your feeling great!! We're you there one night or two?
  8. Great idea, thanks. I'm trying different things now, before sugery!! I have one of those bullets in my frig right now!!! I'll get some kool aid this afternoon and try it. How much do you mix one of the bullets with, 24 oz is what I have in mind, then sip, sip, sip. Thank you again!
  9. I am LMAO - and agree 100% - AMEN!!!
  10. You're in Madison??!!! What is your favorite Mexican food restaurant? We make the drive to Madison, about once a month, to eat at Abuelo's. We love it, it's not quite two hours, and we make a day of it over there, but it's worth it!! I cannot believe how little it will take to fill me up after surgery. Wow, and I'm so glad that I'll still be able to eat Mexican food....I love it, and fajitas are so good! Thanks for sharing!
  11. Wow! Thanks, I have spent an hour reading it and now I have it bookmarked! Great information!
  12. Hi KK - For what it's worth, my regular doctor 'up here' in Wisconsin told me, when I went to see her and tell her what I was planning...just to make sure she was informed and that she might be contacted....I am from Texas, I am self pay and traveling back 'home' because it is MUCH less expensive in the south. I'm paying $12,500 in Dallas. Anyway, to the point...my doctor told me to just make sure I was having it done at a 'center of excellence'. (and I took her advice) I wasn't sure what it meant at the time, but I have since read up on it and to get that 'stamp of approval' they have to really be good and it's no easy task. So that is just something for you to keep in mind!! Good luck!!!!
  13. What do you mean by sauces? Gravy, bar-b-q??! I've heard others say the same thing....I keep meaning to ask, but then get side tracked!
  14. Jay Robb egg white protein is not bad at all. I too am experimenting before surgery. You can mix the chocolate with 6 oz of water and add a little choc or vanilla extract. I haven't tried the vanilla egg white protein, but I'm sure it's good too. The Jay Robb vanilla whey protein powder mixed with 6 oz of water and add coconut extract to taste. I would recommend trying either of these. You can get 'sample' size packets at GNC and also at Whole Foods. Good luck!!!
  15. Everybody talks about the things they like NOW that they did NOT care for before surgery and the things that don't appeal to them that did previously....I think that will be interesting. I'll be so sad if my love of Mexican food goes away, although it might be a good thing. I've already figured out what will be easy when we go out, fajita meat, beef, chicken or shrimp...and refried beans! Simple!
  16. I love this post. I can't wait to see what is new for me. I love seafood, I hope that doesn't change, I can get Protein in with steamed shrimp, grilled fish etc. You mentioned gumbo....knowing what you know since you're on 'the other side' - is it or should it be off limits? We love Galveston and come to the Houston/Galveston area a couple of times a year. We have our favorite places for gumbo, Pappa's seafood is the one we like in Houston, oh, and Pappadeaux's!! I know I couldn't possibly eat a bowl, maybe not even a cup, but with the roux that is the base, will it be ok to have some? What's your opinion??!!!
  17. My DREAM is to buy a MEDIUM....I cannot imagine that it will happen, but then again, I think maybe it will!!!! I loved it when I read that you bought 12!!!!! Good for you!
  18. When you say you are hungry all the time, that concerns me!! How do you keep from eating and do you fill up quickly? What about the hormone that is suppose to go away with the surgery? Some, actually many say that they have no hunger for quite a while....which is what I'm hoping for! Do you find it easy to not give in or do you think it is what everyone refers to as head hunger and something you'll work through??? Good luck and it is sooooo exciting to see all the results of everyone's hard work after surgery....what success!!!
  19. Thanks for the invitation Tiffany!! Y'all have a great time....hopefully you'll do this again some time, I'd love to meet you and some of the other girls! My daughter and I will be in town for my seminar ON SUNDAY, and I plan on a little shopping and maybe lunch at North Park Monday! We'll have just missed you! Take care and thanks again! Stacy
  20. Where are you having surgery done? Who are you using? I'm headed to Dallas in April for the seminar...surgery is scheduled June 11th. Good luck!!! I know you're as excited as I am!
  21. Kara, Hi, I'm in Wisconsin too, and am traveling to Dallas for sleeve surgery. I talked to doctor's offices in Milwaukee, Marshfield and Wausau, but the self pay cost is so much more here than it is in the south for some reason. The lady I spoke to in Milwaukee said she knew health care here was more and couldn't explain it. Anyway, I am going to Dr. James Davidson, he is at a Center of Excellence and the cash price is $12,510. I'm headed there next month for the seminar and the following day they are allowing me to do what is usually the two week pre-op appointment, then I'll be traveling back in June for surgery on June 11th. Another doctor that is highly recommended in the Dallas area is Dr. Nick Nicholson, his price is about $200 less than Dr. Davidson's cost. The benefit of going to Dr. Nick is you would only need to be in town for a one week follow up appointment I believe, and with Dr. Davidson, he wants to see you at one week and then again at two weeks. Whatever you decide to do, good luck!!!
  22. Hi there WendyLou! It is all carbonated drinks, they can damage our tummies after surgery, so they're off limits...also, we can eat so little, and soft drinks are empty calories, we have to make what we take in COUNT...protein etc. Make sense?
  23. I have never been one that likes sodas, we never have had them in our house unless one of the kids had company or we were having people over....I'll have a fountain coke occasionally and I like one at the theatre with popcorn. I have weined myself off caff. coffee!! Hopefully I can go back to regular coffee at some point, does anybody know? Right now I am taking myself off fat free half and half. Boy....black with stivia!! I have tried something that I like, SoBe drinks that are sweetened with stivia, I like water with lemon or lime, but thought I'd try something different just in case I want a change after surgery! So far I like the blackberry the best, it's not to sweet. At Wal Mart they are just over a dollar, 1.09 I think.
  24. I thought adding Protein Powder to water sounded disgusting too, but the guy at GNC said that is what HE does, so I thought I'd try it. I got a Jay Robb vanilla whey protein packet (i'm trying out different ones before surgery). Added it to six oz of cold water and a few ice cubes...it was 'ok' - so I added about a cap full and a half of cocoanut extract, that perked it right up! It seriously made a difference. It needs to be cold and it needs the extract to be good. I think the chocolate would be better, but they did not have it in the packets.
  25. I wish we had a Trader Joe's around here.....I hate having to order it and paying shipping it. One of these days maybe we'll move back to a 'real' city and have something available! LOL
