Worried about so many things
Tiffany - about the PPI - our ins. will cover the Prilosec, or whichever one the doctor prescribed for me when I was in Dallas last week, but the co-pay is $50, they did say I could get an OTC chewable if our ins. didn't cover it or if it the co-pay was high....I cannot remember which one it is, but what do you think about the OTC, will it be ok?

Speak up those with leaks & infections!
I would be monitoring oral surgeons if I were currently looking into having my wisdom teeth pulled. I'd like to hear the good, the bad and the ugly...weed through it and come to my own conclusions. Surely this isn't a place where everyone sees nothing but rainbows and farts butterflies??!!!! LOL

Starting BMI=36. Anyone else similar?
My current/starting BMI is 35.5 and I'm healthy as a horse...so even though our insurance covers WLS, it will not even consider me. I'm self pay and to me, this is preventive maintenance. =)

Hi from Louisiana
Good luck, the time will fly by!!!!

Greek Yogurt
Our WM doesn't carry it, but I'll ask the dairy guy about it next time I'm up there! I got the Dannon plain Greek yogurt at WM last night and it is good....the single size is a little over 5 oz and has 15 gr of protein. The only thing that isn't about the same as the Okios is it has 10 gr of cholesterol, but that isn't an issue for me. It was a $1 per.

Greek Yogurt
I like the Brown Cow too, but they don't carry it in our little town. I've gotten it before when we shop at the Woodlands, a large grocery store about an hour from us....but we aren't there on a regular basis! It is also less expensive, which is nice!

Greek Yogurt
Okios is what I buy....the plain because the carbs are so low. I add stivia to sweeten it when I make a smoothie or whatever and last night I used it for sour cream on a baked potato, and so did my husband....it really does taste like sour cream!

9 month post update with AW photos
I initially thought I'd get banded, but when someone suggested I investigate further and told me to read up on the sleeve, I was sold. I still cannot imagine getting to goal, actually losing 75 - 80 lbs!!! It seems like a dream that I'm so close to getting started on this journey, you so inspire me, thanks!

9 month post update with AW photos
Did you have ANY idea that this was even possible? I cannot begin to wrap my mind around losing enough weight to fit into a 6 - 8 or even a size 10!!! Did you lose most of your weight with the band or sleeve or was it a combo Tiff?

Medications
My surgery is scheduled for June 11th.....I think every doctor is different. My pre-op diet isn't horrible, some people have a 2 week liquid diet. Ugh....it could always be worse!
-
Medications
All my vitimins will be chewable except the B12, it disolves under my tongue...I take Topamax to help prevent migraines, and it comes in granuals, or I can crush them and take them with a touch of yogurt the nurse said....I am giving up my Imitrex (migraine med) and my PCP wrote me a script for Maxalt, rapid disolving. Six weeks for the tummy to heal, he is serious about being careful I guess. His sleeve patients don't start 'regular' food until week seven. One week clear liquids, two weeks full liquids and three weeks soft/mushies.
-
Medications
I just attended the seminar last week, and my doctor says no pill swallowing for six weeks. Does the medication come in another form, I.E. pill, liquid or granuals? If so, that is what you will probably need to do, or else see if your PCP can put you on another medication that will be just as affective for the time being that does come in liquid, rapid disolving etc. Good luck!

Dallas/Fort Worth Metro area meet-up details
You'd LOVE San Antonio!! I hope he'll get that assignment! My fingers will be crossed for you and I'll say a prayer!! When will you know, any idea??!! Good luck!!! Is your whole family in Texas? In-laws? I hate waiting....it's nerve wracking!!? I am so excited about the sleeve. I made the decision back in Dec. and have been obsessivly reading up on it....and this forum has really helped a lot. I've learned so much! They want me to lose 15 - 20 lbs between now and June 11th, so hopefully that will not be difficult. I've started two Protein smoothies a day and am just eating a regular meal at night. I'll see how that goes. I've got two months, surely it will be plenty of time! It seems much easier than the two week pre-op diet. I guess living out of state has it's advantages! They let me do the pre-op meeting while I was there....and gave me all the instructions...I have a head start!

Dallas/Fort Worth Metro area meet-up details
Would be great if you DID end up in Texas....I was born @ Lackland AFB, my dad retired at Sheppard in Wichita Falls when I was in seventh grade, I was lucky, we moved there when I was in first grade, so that is where I grew up. When I got married, the first place we lived was Weatherford, then we moved to Mineral Wells for a little while before heading east to Henderson...a little town near Tyler. We were there for twenty years before leaving Texas. We've been gone for ten years now. It's time to go home! I'll keep you posted, would love to go some time when you arrange one of the get togethers, if we are living there! You are a real inspiration to me....and you always answer my questions...OH, I've started the vitimins already, as recommended by my doctor. I am sure they said to take the two multi vit. separately, is that correct? Thanks...and have a great day! Stacy

Dallas/Fort Worth Metro area meet-up details
Hi Tiff - hate that I missed the DFW meeting, but I was there right behind y'all. I met with Dr. Davidson, attended the seminar, I know all the staff, have all the pre-op instructions etc. I cannot wait. The countdown begins. Surgery is June 11th. The great news is my husband works for a company that has an office in Irving, we've been wanting to get back 'home' for a while now. He talked to his boss while I was in Dallas and has gotten the 'OK' to move to the Dallas office and work from there!!! Yippee! We are soooo excited....it will probably be 8 - 12 months for him to 'transition' everything and for us to sell the house, but we are headed south!! Did I understand that YOU are moving to the area as well? Are you originally from Texas too? Anyway, I'll be glad to be there where my doctor is.....will love going to the meetings etc. Hope y'all had fun at the get together!! Details!!! Stacy

Protein
Jay Robb is my favorite too....egg white is better than the whey, but i can do either. I haven't tried his unflavored because i can't find it in the 'sample' sized packet. I've used them in Water and also used the vanilla in unflavored Greek yogurt with fruit and extract and made a great smoothie. I highly recommend Jay Robb. If you try the unflavored, let me know how it is, please!!

Need creative clear liquid ideas please!
I read somewhere that somebody strained egg drop soup from their local Chinese restaurant. I am scheduled for June, so I've kept that in the back of my mind. :001_smile:

Last Minute Total Panic Re: Post Op Care/Insurance
I was wondering this same thing. I am not leaving the country, but I am self pay. Our insurance does cover WLS, but I don't qualify due to lower BMI and not health issues...but I have wondered, if there were to be commplications afterward, would my insurace cover the cost?? What if there were complications during??!! Is that included in the cash price, does anybody know?
-
Favorite protein?
I will keep the sugar free peach preserves in mind. I also have tried the vanilla whey Jay Robb, and variety is good, right?? =) I'm glad you tried it, glad it comes in sample size....sorry you didn't like it. Have a great day!!! Leaving tomorrow, headed to Dallas for my seminar next week!!! Yippee!

All Protein Meatloaf
Whole Foods, at least the ones I've been to (there is not one near me now) DO have grassfed bison. Be sure and ask if it is grassfed, I did and they assured me it was, some of their meat is and some is not. They told me how to tell the difference there at the meat counter, something about the 'tag' there by the meat!

All Protein Meatloaf
We've ordered from both of these places, both are good. It does cost more than beef from Wal Mart, but when you are ordering it, and then eating chicken and fish from Wal Mart or another store in town, it lasts us for about three weeks. I order approx. fifteen lbs. at a time. Steaks, and usually a roast or brisket and then I like to get quarter lb hamburger patties. I don't get bulk ground bison because with the patties, I can CHOOSE how much I put in casseroles or spaghetti. I've cut down and use a half lb of meat now with spaghetti and casseroles. Use to I'd use a full lb of beef or 3/4 of a lb. It is just as good and nobody knows the difference!! Anyway, here are the links! The second link, if you call and order on the phone, there is a discount, I am not sure why! =) Grass-Fed Bison/Buffalo Grassfed Meat, Bison, Elk, Lamb, Chicken, Steaks, Rice Lake, WI, Buffalo

All Protein Meatloaf
Using bison will bring the Fat and Sat. Fat down, way down. My husband had a stent put in his heart a year ago this month and we switched to ordering, GRASSFED, bison. I order it on line, and it's delivered to our house. His nutritionist said the fat and sat. fat content are like that of boneless, skinless chicken breast or fish...NOT RED MEAT!! Yay!! I've bought 'red meat' (beef) maybe five times in the past year. MY cholesterol dropped from 168 to 145 and the biggest change is cutting out red meat. I don't use real butter except at a restaurant now, but I didn't use a lot before....red meat was the biggie. I am not on meds, I have naturally low cholesterol.....grassfed bison is a big deal, and we love it!!! I use it and find myself using less when making spaghetti and other things like that, a half lb instead of a full lb. Anyway, that's my two cent worth!! :confused1:

Feeling a Little Discouraged!!!!!
OMG - If I can lose 84 lbs in the length of time you have, I'll be estatic!! You have done marvelous!!! How much do you need to lose to be at goal? You are being hard on yourself, without a doubt!!!
