Looking for those who started with BMI 35 or less
Did your daughter get to her goal? I'm so ready to get there! I'm excited that I'm seeing some weight loss and I can just "taste the prize" LOL!

Looking for those who started with BMI 35 or less
I would have gone to Mexico but one my best friends is a Dr. and she told my husband that she really thought I should get it done by a local Dr. I tried to talk him into letting me go to Mexico but he said if I wanted it done, I had to do it here. It was 15,500! Yikes!

Self-pay costs of different surgeons.....
Malley Surgical in Kansas City is 16,500 with everything covered the first year. He also runs specials from time to time and I got mine for 15,500.

I cheated and I'm scared now. :/
I was allowed mushies after surgery so don't worry too much. I remember on the 5-6 day that I was more hungry that I have ever been in my life. I don't think this is an indicator, I think this was your body trying to survive on such little food. You are commited, don't let anyone tell you that your not or put doubts in your mind about how sucessful you will be. If others can do this, so can you! Keep your chin up!

What food causes you to PB or get blocked?
I would also like to know what others feel are hard to eat. I want to stay away from problem foods!

What food causes you to PB or get blocked?
Productive Burb. You get something stuck and then your throat starts producing mucus (some call it slimeing) and then you burb the food and mucus back up. Sometime after a long period of time waiting for it to come up. I guess it's pretty uncomfortable. I'm not on solid food yet so I have no experience with this yet. It's my understanding that almost everyone banded has this happen from time to time.

Need ideas on food, etc. What are you eating?
Hi! I didn't gain but I did not loose weight the days I was on liquid. I think your body panics and is affraid it needs the fat to live off of! Once I went to mushie food, I started seeing the scale go down! As far as what I'm eating, I made meatloaf and mashed potatos one night, chili another night and I have baked potato soup in the crock pot now. I have also had refried Beans with hamburger meat and cheese on it. I have had eggs and yogurt.

Hi Cat Lady! I would ask how big the incisions are going to be. Maybe he is talking about an "open surgery" rather than laprascopic. I have 5 incisions but 3 are so small (millimeters really) My other 2 are less than an inch long. Good luck to you and check back and let us know what he says! Diet coke is not tollerated well in the band. It's fine if it's flat but the fizzy is uncomfortable for most people and most doctors don't want you to have it. But who really wants flat diet coke. :willy_nilly:

who else started mushies day after surgery?

I had a few moments of panic before the surgery about it I was doing the right thing. I mean no diet coke FOREVER seems pretty hard core. Then it hit me, I NEED HARD CORE. I have gained and lost the weight more times than I can count and I don't want to do that anymore. so Hard Core it is! Of course I'm sure most of us are private pay because insurance won't pay for our BMI so I felt a little selfish asking my husband to shell out the cash when he already provides for me to stay at home. I got over it because I knew he would like the results! LOL!

who else started mushies day after surgery?
I was on liquid for 5 days, soups and cottage cheese, yougurt, mashed potatos, for 3 days and now I'm on to meatloaf and beans, chicken if it's extra moist and thinks like that. I feel some what back to normal and I'm only 8 days post op.

shrinking
Aww, that's the first to get smaller but don't worry, the rest of you will be right behind those tatas! I'm going to get a lift after I get to goal so if they are too small, they can do implants too! :-0

I'm so glad I did it too. I had a couple days of panic before the surgery but I kept reminding myself that I have a lot of years left and I want to live them happy. It's a huge change and you have to learn how to eat again. It's kind of hard core. That said, I need hard core, I need a true lifestyle change and the band is perfect for me because it's always there to remind you of the right thing to do! Good luck with what ever you decide.

Looking for those who started with BMI 35 or less
Wow! 30 pounds in two months. I hope I can do that well! Congrats! I appriciate the support from this thread. I'm sooooo glad I'm not the only one doing it with a lower BMI. It feels weird to say Lower BMI when I obviously felt I was pretty fat to do this!

Looking for those who started with BMI 35 or less
I'm 6 days post op! I'm finally banded! I feel great and am trying to figure out portion size with the mushies. I'm hungry but don't want to push it so I'm eating very little food. I know I should try to eat until I feel full but I'm affraid I won't know when that is. I go to the Dr. Friday so I'm looking forward to some answers from him.

sweet spot
I'm to understand that it's the adjustment spot that is tight enough to feel restriction and loose weight, but not so tight that you feel unable to eat. That spot is different for everyone so it's somewhat of a challenge to get it right the first couple of fills.

Thank you for posting! I'm so glad that you feel it was worth it! So many people think I'm crazy but I know that I'm doing for the lifetime change and not just the quick fix diet! Congrats BillOh on your weight loss and your fantastic year!

I newbie! How are you feeling? Keep in touch. Our bands were the same day so it will be fun to check each others progress. I hope to see another 20 pounds or so by the end of Feburary but I might be dreaming! :-)

I popped a stitch!
Ouch! No, I have not heard of that but I will be extra careful! Hope you are felling better soon!

Day 6 Post Op and wonder what and why I did this!!
Hang in there! I was banded on the 3rd and I think the gas pain is the worst! Keep walking. I'm going to try to make laps inside today (it's snowing outside). I think this is like the early stages of pregnancy. Misery! But in the end it's worth it and when you look back on it, it won't seem so bad. At least that's what I hope! :-)

December Bandsters 2009
Has anyone tried muscle milk light? I bought some at costco but I have not tried it yet. My Dr. sells an unflavored brand that you can mix with crystal light so I'm going to buy some of it. The brand is Unjury??

Thanks to everyone who has posted so far. It's great to see I'm not the only one doing this with a BMI of 34.5. It sounds like everyone so far is happy they did it!

Thanks Surfergirl! I'm glad you are happy with your band. I'm just having some last minute jitters and it doesnt help that the few people I have told act like I'm totally crazy and they don't think I weigh enough. I'm sure I'm doing the right thing and I appricate you insight!
