September Bandsters
Yep- this is like starting out with a virgin tummy and vessels. Im walking the good/clean side. I did not go thru the pain, $$, to throw it all away. It makes me sad to read the people who are eating fast food, drinking heavily and not conforming. My surgeon would have MY HEAD if I did not change my habits- There would be no fills and certainly no sympathy from him. I feel like im ahead of the game if I stay on the good side then Im in control of me.!! My tummy and nutrition restart was 9/14/06. :clap2: My and the surgeons short term goal is healing not necessarily wt loss- that will be a bonus. Just the change in habits from pre-post will result in a nice loss. IMHO there is an over focus on severly lowering calories ,carbs and proteins too soon post-op. This is when my body needs it the most per my surgeon. Healing cannot take place in a timely fashion if nutrients are inadequate. "There is plenty of time for wt loss- it did not happen overnight." Post op Im allowed 1200 cal 60-80gm protein, 20%fat. Cuts back after 6-8 weeks if that proves not to be a loss level. Certainly NOT MEANT to be preaching. Just the view that was taught to me in nutrition classes and WLS classes.

New whey by IDS liquid protein is 3oz, 25protein, 0carb 0 fat pre op it was great, I need a few more days before I can do the consistency. If you stick it in the freezer for 30 min its like a snowcone! I got it because of the small volume and I limited right now.

Bettina- Muslce milk has a carb concious lean muscle formula It has 230cal in 11oz- 2 servings for me for the next 4weeks 11gm of fat 11carbs only 5 of those sugar 22gm protein no trans fats, no lactose, and 25% of vitamins and minerals So since this is two of my meals thats not so bad. Because of the fat it is more satisfaying. Im sure I wont be using it long term but for the short term hopefully it will do the trick. Its thin like milk, the thicker ones I cant do. Isopure is thin also, but I needed a different flavor.

Have never really liked apple juice- it has saved me the last 3 days!! I went to the grocery store last night to get out and to walk around. Got various soups to puree/blenderize. I dropped a can and some man saw me s l o w l y squat to pick it up and came over and ask me if i was ok! I explained I was fine and he was in disbelief I was out and about! I even drove myself with dh riding along to supervise I really was able!! Getting up and moving is THE secret!! Mom of many- I hope you are good! Im sure the sunrises are beautiful in MX. Good luck to everyone This week. Thank god for Papaya enzyme and aloe vera...and thanks Kathy, too!!
Jack have you tried Dreamfields pasta? It is coated in protein then fiber so it does not stimulate hunger. It actually has a lower glycemic index since the body gets to the fiber layer and ignores it. So the pasta layer never gets utilized. Interesting science behind it. Saw it on the science or discovery channel. The taste is far better than the whole wheat mess. Dont know who it will work with the band/stoma. Not as goey as regular pasta.

Good by to my Scruffy little dog
You are in my thoughts and prayers!! It is SOO HARD! They become our children. They are defenseless, unconditional love, idolize your every move. Unfortunately we have had to say goodbye to several. The hardest thing is people not understanding the impact they make in your life. We have actually grieved both ways not getting another fur baby for 2 years and getting another within the month. It actually helps the sooner you are able to get another fur baby to love you. Sounds disrespectful but the getting another fur baby to take care of and help with the grief is the easier of the two ways to go. The distraction is welcomed. My condolences in which ever you choose. You will always have the memories and the 11 years of fun is worth the time of pain- although it doesnt feel like it today.

Sweetsue- D I T T O!! I share all of those fears!! My journey has begun-Good luck to you! Too late to turn back now- however I did question what have I done!! Once the soreness subsides I will be thrilled!! I think the stories here are skewed- Im hoping!! There are hundreds of lurkers that we dont hear from. All the people I know personally who have a band DO NOT have these horrors! They have all done well no problems. I asked the erosion rate is 3% and slippage is 2-3%. Slippage can be decreased by not vomiting per the surgeons and not overfilling. Regardless of the many opinions and risks-did this for me! I dont want diabetes, and other complications so it is time to get the weight off! Hang in there and Good Luck!!

Next week you will not need willpower! The soreness is a gentle reminder what I chose. After 4 weeks im sure I will be ready for a partial slice!! JUST eating the toppings off will be heavenly!! 'The muscle milk is good too, but it has 11 gm. of fat in one premixed drink container"- THANK GOODNESS that will be the only thing that helps my survival part of liquids!!

news report regarding e. coli in spinach or other bagged veges
would that help since E. coli is bacteria found in human, animal instestines & feces. If organics use organic fertilizer they are at same risk? This is from the CDC: E. coli is: _A form of bacteria that commonly lives in the human body. _One strain releases a toxin that can cause severe illness. _The germ is present in uncooked beef, unpasteurized milk and juice, and on raw sprouts and lettuce. Symptoms include: _Abdominal cramps. _Severe, often bloody, diarrhea. _Kidney failure in the young, elderly or people with weak immune systems. If you have an E. coli infection: _You don't need to take antibiotics. _It will probably go away in five to 10 days. _Young children and the elderly could be hospitalized to treat kidney failure. Every year in the U.S.: _Approximately 73,000 people contract E. coli. _Approximately 61 people die from the infection. Ways to prevent contracting E. coli: _Wash all fruits and vegetables thoroughly. _Cook all ground beef and meat. _Drink only pasteurized milk and juice. _Don't swallow Water in lakes or public pools. If you get E. coli, try to avoid infecting others: _Don't prepare food for others. _Bathe alone. _Don't swim in public places.

Just because I am Paranoid...
"That amounts to about 30# of wasted resources, wasted Postal Employee time, wasted fuel on delivering something that produces a single digit response. And then to accept the pretense I'm saving "30-40-50%" on whatever junk they are promoting," yep! Thats the capitalist area of the world we live in. Good thing we have such a successful recycling program in our area!!!! Rather recycle than be a citizen in ANY 3rd world area. I give thanks everyday!! Sorry Jack- didn't intend to upset you!

Banded today
Today was my band day!! Surgery and post op went very well. Had 3 IV attempts prior to the nurses deciding a smaller cath (20g instead of 18g) was better. I look incredibly beat up. Had that ouchie shot (lovanox) in the flank for thrombis protection. Had surgery at 0930, in room by 1100, and walked the hall by 1215!! Was able to get swallow study with THAT ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE GASTROGAFFIN done about 1430. was discharged about 1630 home by 1700.!! No real pain-but VERY sore on left side. One HUGE episode of nausea to the 'oh shit please dont vomit 'stage- laid down, wash cloth, fan and less clothes and it passed. Took 4mg of zofran and will take it again in am for prevention!! I really feel like I sat too long (visiting with friend who brought dinner for dh and broth for me). Although it may have been the liquid tylenol with 1oz water chaser. THICK stuff!! Gonna get fast melts tomorrow!! Have, but did not fill rx-i dont do well with nasty liquid. Got a 9.5cm, 4cc Inamed band. REALLY like Dr. Hamn- he was wonderful today pre-op!! He was friendly, funny and interactive!! That makes 3 times I saw him pre-op- kutia never saw Dr.J pre or post!!! I feel very fortunate!!! I now can get healthier, thinner and move on without the daily obsession of weight loss and doing more about it!!:clap2:

Yes lamamama, i had a surge of nausea. A cold wash cloth, fan, laying down and a few less clothes and i was fine. I had some zofran- per the nurse my dr. doesnt like antinausea meds- per the pt im not about to slip a band b/c of vomiting the first day!! Im tolerating sips, ice, & 2oz broth, popscicle etc every hour per my info sheet. I think I just was up & sat up too long! No stools at all- the gastrogaffin (horrific liquid styrofoam with a touch of skunk essence) is the cause of runny poop per the radiologist today!! Glad to be banded!!! momofmany hope you are well! Good luck for those who are scheduled tomorrow!!
