  1. I'm five days post-op! So far I'm experiencing some really bad hiccups that radiates really bad pain in my shoulder. I read some other posts and read different things. Anyone have any suggestions as to what exactly that comes from?! Also, feeling great considering. Im moving around alot better, but still very sore around the biggest incision. Im so ready to use my tool to a better, healthier me! Im at a stand still right now, but I was told during the first week post-op I would prob see very little or none at all due to the gas and initial Water weight. I guess I'm wondering what a good goal for christmas would be. I started out at 295, I'm 275 now. So, I was thinking 30lbs (total) . Any input would be great! Thanks for any suggestions/feedback ahead of time:thumbup:
  2. Yay I get to join the people of already been banded now! As of 10/26/09 (Monday) I was banded! I cant believe the day finally arrived! I'm so sore, but so thankful I chose to take this step in my life! From the pre-op diet, I was already down 18.6lbs total. My goal by christmas is 30lbs total. Anyone think that's too outrageous of a goal? Just curious!
  3. Surgery tmrw!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YAY
  4. First of all, congrats! I'm stoked its less than a week away, I don't know about you! I am so with you on the diet though, mine is always like.. FEED ME SEYMORE!! haha. Don't worry to much about the anesthesia, I've been under it once for Gallbladder surgery, it wasnt bad, but I'll admit it was a bit scary waking up because you're disoriented. Also I think I passed out before they even gave me the anesthesia because I was so nervous about surgery, I didnt even have to count down haha! :crying:
  5. Aww! Well I don't blame you. I'm the same way, I'm having to drive quite a bit out of the way to the tune of 40 miles and about an hour's or longer drive! But it's worth it to me! Hmm as far as buying for postcare, first I bought me some cool new slippers for the hospital! Haha, cause they said you could bring/wear pjs, and if I remember from my Gallbladder surgery, my feet were soooo cold! As far as food and stuff, I am stocking up on Campbell's heart healthy tomato Soup because its low in calories, has a vegetable serving, and its one of my favs! I was also told I could have popsicles! YAY!
  6. GOOD LUCK DAVE! Oh I am through with a little over a week of those liquids. Keep strong, the weight loss and liver shrinking to be eligible for the surgery is way worth it!
  7. OMGOSH I KNOW! I'm so tired of these Optifast shakes! But I am thankful for the weightloss, so it has kept me strong & strict. Ive not waded from them yet! :crying: Thanks for the encouraging words!! I really appreciate it. No one here knows what its like bc all my friends have always been skinny butts!
  8. Thanks for all the goodlucks! :scared2: I am so excited and nervous!! My boyfriend is taking off for the day though, so that helps ease my fears a little! :cursing: Stacy-- good luck with yours too! Where are you having your surgery?
  9. I agree with all of the above. I too was diagnosed with Fatty Liver disease. But to be frank, almost all obese people have this underlying condition. They just aren't told or it's not made a big deal sometimes. Having fatty liver actually is a great qualifier for having the surgery and as all the others have said that is the sole purpose of the pre-op diet. I have been on liquids for a week now and I have one more to go. Although I am happy with the weight loss, I know I must stick to it strictly because of my liver. Also, some docs will increase the amount of time your on pre-op diet or decrease depending on just how fatty or big your liver really is. I know a couple people through the surgeon's office, one is only on one week, and the other is on a three week, and I'm only on two weeks. So it's really catered to you.
  10. I can't believe it. I'm through one week of liquid diets with one week left to go and on Monday, October 26th I will be banded!!!! I can't believe I've waited this long & got through it! The liquid diet has been so hard, I do crave food, but the weight loss I've had so far is worth it. Fortunately, I do not crave sodas like I thought I would. 13lbs down in just 7 days. 7 more days of it to go, maybe I'll be down even further! I wish everyone on the 26th surgery date luck & hope to see you on the skinnier side -Jamie Love
  11. I'm officially in Pre-op mode, I started my liquids monday, and so far I've seen a 6lb weight loss! :-D I'm also adding my name to the list! I hope to see a healthier me in a few months! 12. I have the same exact surgery date, 10/26/09! It needs to hurry the heck up! Good luck with your weight loss efforts and reaching your goal before weigh in! :tongue2:
  13. Oh man..I couldn't even begin to imagine dating again! lol. I am so fortunate that I have had a great man by my side this whole time! BUT, I know what it's like. Before I was eligible to get the band, when I was like 16 or 17, I was casually dating a guy that ended up breaking up with me because he thought I was "too fat" and shouldn't wear skirts..and if I'd lose weight he'd go back out with me! He ACTUALLY said that to me!!!!!! So GOODLUCK GUYS&GALS, that someone who doesn't care is out there, I've certainly met mine!!!!
  14. Congrats!!! Hope the Hot Tamale train picks you up! (haha sorry, So You Think You Can Dance fanatic!) Good luck with your weight loss! -Jamie
  15. Thats great you're on top of things!! The best motivator is to know you've got things already working in motion towards a healthier you! At least he agreed you needed SOMETHING! I would have been greatful for that response..needless to say I kicked my doctor to the curb! LOL!
  16. Hi! I'd go with your gut (no pun intended), seriously..my original primary care doctor didn't even want to discuss it with me, she just said no, like I was asking for her permission. I think to get the best medical opinion on what is right for YOU, you need to start researching surgeons/hospitals that are in network for you (if you're going the insurance route). Most of them have free seminars or consultations that only cost you a copay like a regular doctor's visit. THEY would know best, they'd be doing the surgery after all! Besides, if you're not comfortable with what he "thinks" then a second opinion wouldn't hurt either! Hope that helps! -Jamie
  17. Hey, if you're worried about teacher's understanding, you need to be upfront with them. Although I havn't had my LapBand surgery yet, I did have gallbladder removal surgery (more downtime!) during the middle of a semester last Fall. If you're very upfront with your teachers and keep up with the classes even if just at home, they are more likely to be understanding & aiding in your return and your missed days. Goodluck! (If it helps you're not the only one out there, I'm having mine in October (in the middle of another fall semester!LOL)
  18. I'm having it done 10/26! I live in Hurst. And I'm close to your age- I'm 20! Goodluck. Feel free to message me if you want! xo, Jamie
  19. I think that is very dumb since your insurance doesn't specifically require it. Most of those herdles I've heard were usually at the insurance's request..not the surgeon. And I totally hear ya, I've been dieting all of my life too. But definately don't get it done there if you're not comfortable with the idea of it or the surgeon.
  20. Congrats on the weight loss. That is so great to hear! I was impressed to, but to hear it from someone who's already has the surgery is just another reassurance!! I'll be banded by Dr. Kim on October 26th. I can't wait!!! Good luck with your ultimate goal!
  21. Found another one! TriCare North - Weight Loss Surgery Insurance - RenewedReflections I know when someone is at a loss for information it can be very discouraging. I really hope these forums help you!
  22. I can't answer much about the insurance/hospital inquiries..my best help would be try researching on the internet. Research your healthcare plan, find out what surgeons are on that plan THEN research him or her. I know there are other sites out there that are for Lap Band support/information. Also, I'm not sure there would be any reason for your husband to take off work other than maybe the day of the surgery. I havn't had my surgery yet, but my doctor has assured me it's only a week of downtime..and most of that "down time" is literally getting up and down. I was told the incisions are exactly the same as my previous gall bladder removal surgery. One incision especially, which will go through muscle, will make it difficult to get up and down for several days, but you're not totally disabled. Also, I was told even though you won't be able to eat as much, staying away from high fat & sugar content food will make the weight loss process more significant and easier. Hope some of that helps!!
  23. I don't! The scheduling nurse said I would find out about all that stuff this coming week.
  24. Yay for October Bandsters! It does seem so far away and I too just found out. I had an option of September 15th originally, but I'm leaving town for 10 days just 6 days after that..so I figured this would work out better! I'm so anxious for that day to come. I hated my highschool graduation cause I was a sore eye amoungst all the twigs, and now at College graduation..I have something to look forward to! :cursing:
