Are Bananas bad?
Bananas can cause constipation, so you;ll have to watch for that too. They are good for you and shouldn't hurt if you're using small ones and not too many a day. Here's a good shake recipe: Chocolate/Peanut Butter Shake 1/2 cup fat-free milk 1 cup ice 1 scoop of vanilla Protein Mix (I use Matrix) 1 pkg SF Swiss Miss 1 TAB Peanut Butter 3 pkgs Splenda Mix well in blender and enjoy! NOTE: I put my ice in first and crush it up well before adding milk and other ingredients.

Anyone taking Synthroid after banding?
I have been on Synthroid for 15 years. I take 300mcg per day and I take the brand name, not generic. I can tell you that when my levels are wacky, my weight rises but weight loss is also slower when you have this problem. The best thing you can do for yourself is to see a Endo doctor. They deal with the thyroid and diabetes all the time. Right now, my levels are in great shape and I am losing weight just as my doctor wants me too. 1-2 pounds a week. Do NOT ignore this medical problem and not take the medicine. That is a little stupid. When you have a medical problem, you need to address it and do what is necessary. Any time you have problems with the thyroid, it can be very serious. I've had patients that didn't take their meds and would be put on my psych unit because they were thought to be crazy & out of control. I've had them so down in depression that they couldn't get up or function at all. So, all of this said, please make sure you keep up with your levels and get some good advice from a doctor that is experienced in this disease. Good luck.

Feeling guilty
Humming Bird: Thanks for the info on Wendy's chili. I usually eat 1-2 a week when I'm out/about. Ahealthierme: First of all forgive yourself and don't mess up again. Put your mindset on what the band is all about. Prepare for those times that your family will be eating out. Take along a acceptable "ditty bag" with your shakes or some kind of protein. Enjoy your family time together. You need to remember your user name every time you are tempted. You can't be a healthier you if you don't follow the rules. Now, start again and good luck.

I feel like I am being choked
It's possible it's from the tube but to be safe, call your doctor. No question is a dumb question and they have heard it all..so call tomorrow. Good luck.

Recently Banded
Welcome to the board! It takes about 10 days to really be feeling great and about six weeks to heal completely. Gas-X and walking will help the gas. If the picture of the child is yours, be careful about picking him up or letting him jump on your tummy. BTW, he's so cute.... As someone said, you will be going through a lot of different things, some ups, some downs. However, you can do it with hard work and the right amount of fills. Hang in there and good luck.

Pissed Part II - A Different Perspective
It always helps to take a step back and re-think situations in life...no matter what they are at the time. You did good girl! You are also showing a good weight loss and I know you can go all the way. Write down these successful moments so that someday you can look back to see how far you have come.

Looking from some hints from someone thats already been banded
I think this is a hard question to answer since everyone is so different. It's hard to "prepare" yourself but some of the things you might start are: Eating with a smaller plate/fork No liquids on the table No straws Use a 1/2 cup to measure your foods Taking bites about the size of the end of your little finger Putting your fork down between bites & CHEW, chew, chew Eating all your Protein first & then your veggie NO COLAS Getting rid of your "trouble foods/snacks" that you overeat on. Clean out the refrig/pantry Explain to your friends/family that this is NOT a rapid weight loss situation. It is a 1-2 pounds a week program and requires a lot of hard work on your part. Be prepared to need Fiber to help with any bowel changes. Have some Gas-X strips on hand for after surgery. They help some and so will walking. Don't be disappointed that it might take awhile to get enough "fills" to have good restriction. Good luck. Hope everything goes well for you.

Dr. Miles or Dr. Schmitt patients
I really enjoyed group today. Jody, the exercise trainer was awesome. Sure helped me with those moves. I met Ford's hubby today. He is a very nice looking man. She is a lucky lady. Jason was there checking us in today. When he got up to speak, a lady near me said "he sure is an attractive man" and was amazed that he had lost so much weight. Be careful, Jason, those ladies might kidnap you! LOL We missed the rest of you guys. Maybe next month.

1st fill and pills
Yeah, take the liquid.

Newbie needs advice - 1 month post op
You're not doing anything wrong. It's normal to lose 2-3 pounds a week. Some people gain. You don't have anything in your band yet. You'll start to lose when you get enough "fills". Right now, you have to eat what you should and no more. Some people call this time bandster's hell. Go to your appointment, talk with your doctor or his nurse and they will explain it to you.

Whopper JR.
Forgive yourself and go forward. NO looking back except to remember that this isn't good for you. It takes about six weeks of healing for your body to be in good shape to do what you did, so you're lucky that you haven't done any inside damage. Find yourself some Protein Snacks to keep on hand and stay away from Burger King if you can't control it. Good luck. Now start your new beginning!

Barium Swallow experience

Food Boredom
The small cup of pinto beans with cheese from Taco Bell saves my day.

When is enough enough or too much?
Protein, protein, protein is the answer! Cut down on the carbs, drink plenty of Water, and have a snack during the afternoon. You can do it. Don't give up and don't worry about the gastric bypass people. They have enough of their own problems and will have for years to come.

what is pbing
I had my first episode of both yesterday. It was so painful!!!! I know that I was chewing well and the bite was small. The only thing I can figure out is either my body doesn't like a grilled pork chop or the chop was a little too dry (which it was ). Since we were eating with friends, I went to the bathroom thinking I could bring it up by bending over or holding arms up. Nothing worked. I took a sip of water and OMG, that made it worse. I thought I was dying. Finally, it came back up and I got immediate relief. I hope I never go through another episode in my life!!!

fell off the wagon (kinda)... need help
Depression is caused by a chemical inbalance in the brain. It hits people of all ages and some very famous people have suffered from it. It's good that you now have it under control with meds. Go back to your band doctor, explain what happened to you and the meds you are taking now. Tell him that you want to be successful and willing to try again. Don't be embrassed. Most doctors have heard it all, seen it all. Please don't give up completely.

Great loss after fill and then goes back up
I can't eat a cup of food. My doctor says to eat 1/2 cup.

Experience Bandsters- Please tell me...
My PCP changed all my meds that were larger than a M&M to a liquid form or a smaller different pill. Works fine for me for now. I take them with my morning hot tea.

I can't stop eating chocolate and am frightened
Why is chocolate so close at hand at work? Do you buy it and store it in your desk? Since chocolate is a NO-No, you will have to find ways to stay away from it. Take a little "ditty bag" with you to work that has some proper foods in it.

wls before surgery?
When I went to the original seminar, one surgeon said that a person had to be careful about losing during the seven months it takes to qualify because the insurance will see that you have a steady losing pattern and will say, "she doesn't need the band, she's doing fine on her own". His partner, which I used eventually, said that "I couldn't lose enough in the seven months to change my BMI enough that the insurance wouldn't pay for it". I didn't lose anything pre-op. So go figure! I had my band placed on 8/11/09, am doing great. Good luck to you too.
-
How much weight have you lost?
Everyone is different, so don't be disappointed if you don't match others. I was banded on 8/11/09, no pre-op dieting at all, and I've lost 33.2 pounds.

Dr. Miles or Dr. Schmitt patients

Pounds & Inches
As of today, I have lost 33.2 pounds and wish I knew how many inches I've lost. I don't measure but I'm buying myself a tape tomorrow and keep up with it from now on. At quilting on Monday, I was infomred that it was time to retire the capri's I had on. They are too loose according to my friends. Last summer, they were rather tight!:sneaky: Tonight, at church, I had on a new (never worn) pair of jeans. It has been years since I had any jeans. Anyway, I was again told that I needed to retire these new jeans because they were too big..especially in the butt. They weren't too loose when I purchased them last Friday. The only thing I can figure out is that I must be losing a lot of inches lately. I am excited that I am losing pounds/inches, so I guess it's important to measure my body after all. I love my band and am so happy I did it!:frown:
