Wow! Looking back, this has been a long road... I started looking into lapband surgery about 5 years ago when I started working for a hospital system with a Bariatric Center of Excellence. I met with the surgeon, took a class, then chickened out when it came down to insurance requirements, out of pocket costs, etc. Over the next few years the idea of surgery stayed on my mind and I researched alternatives but it never really gathered any steam. Fast forward to late 2013. My employer made a point of sending an announcement to employees that our insurance policy had changed and surgery would be covered at 90% if we used their facility. I did some digging and figured out what 10% would be and decided it was worth it. Started the whole process again in December 2013, followed the path religiously and made it to the finish line: vertical sleeve surgery on June 3, 2014.
