  1. It is so hard to respond to relationship stuff. So many things come in to play and we bansters here don't really know you. Here's my two cents anyway............... If you have a strong relationship pre-op, it has a better chance of staying strong. In my case, I have been with my husband 25 years. We shacked up for 5 years and our 20th anniversary is this month. Things have been strong with us from day one and he has seen me every size from 7 -24. We are still very much in love  . The WLS may prolong our life together, but I didn't give it so much thought. I would say we are more active together since I can enjoy without the extra weight.
  2. Bread Pasta rice steak pork carbonation eggs tortillas french fries (really anything fried or breaded) I'm sure there is more, but that is what comes to mind
  3. Not that I'm promoting doing it without exercise.......... but , I lost 100 pounds in the first year with zero exercise. At my age and place in my life, I don't feel the need to have a hard body. If and when I ever want to put on a bathing suit I'm sure I would look better if I had worked out hard all this time. I'm pretty happy with my results anyway
  4. I agree with not letting him get away with bad comments. Go back and get a fill. Over time the fluid in the band can decrease a bit and you will need a fill so you don't gain. I went back after not having a fill for almost a year. I got a fill back to my original sweet spot and it has helped. I agree with what skylily said for a response if he has something bad to say. Go get your fill.
  5. There are plenty of success stories out there. Keep in mind that when we have been banded for awhile and nothing is going wrong, there isn't much reason to post. This forum is a great place for people who are having an issue to post a problem and get help from fellow bandsters. There are plenty of success threads here. Look for them. There are also several threads just like this one where people are put off by all the complications they read here and want to hear some success. In my own case, I was banded almost 2 years ago. I have not had complications. I dropped 100 pounds in the first year and have not "worked" at it one bit. I don't think it's hard work at all. This is the easiest weightloss of my life. I do believe the band is sort of "magic" because I have put in very little effort. People who are working hard don't like to hear this. There could be band complications in my future, but for now I'm not going to dwell on that. I am glad this forum is here so I can talk to other bandsters when and if those complications happen. Your lapband journey can be a good one, so try to focus on that and not other's complications Reading the complications can keep us aware, but please don't let it get you down.
  6. I have told everyone from day one. I would never go on the T.V. news or anything, but am very open about it. In almost 2 years I have only had one negative comment and that one was from a little old lady, so I just let it roll off. I agree with not wanting to lie about how I dropped so much weight.
  7. That really sounds like a small comment that I would just agree with and let roll off. When she said "some of us have to do it the old fashoned way" , I would have just said "yes, that's true" and gone on about my day.
  8. I agree with what the other posters said. This is one of the sure signs of being too tight and can cause all sorts of problems. I really think you should call your surgeon's office and get in there ASAP/today. They can take out a very tiny bit of fluid and you just may find yourself at your sweet spot.
  9. I agree that sugar will make me crave things. I always choose sugar free, but it has nothing to do with my stomach, weightloss, or the band. The reason I choose sugar free is that I look at teeth all day long and at tooth decay. Sugar is not anyone's friend when it comes to that If I didn't have teeth I might not always choose sugar-free ... who knows.
  10. -- left click on someone else's ticker , it is a link to the ticker site -- choose "create your own ticker" -- choose "weightloss" -- choose a ticker and then a slider -- enter your weight / BMI / start date info **** copy the bb code -- go to "my settings" here at LBT -- then choose "profile" -- then choose "edit signature" -- paste the bb code in the signature message looking box **** then scroll down a bit and "save changes"
  11. ok .... I have not used a ticker in ages, but set one up and wrote down all the steps........ will post it in next post....
  12. Click on someone else's ticker . It is a link to the site where you can set up your own. If that doesn't work, there are many other threads here that go through it step by step.
  13. It may not be as much your shakes as it is ketosis. The shakes might make it more so. For me, over time it stopped.
  14. When was the last time you went in to see your lapband doc? If it's been awhile you may need a little bit of a fill to get the weightloss going again.
  15. Wouldn't it be easy if the band worked the same for everyone? It doesn't and sometimes it is frustrating to get it all worked out. In my own case, I have not counted calories or anything else since the day I was banded. I do try to stay aware of things like calories and Protein, but don't obcess over it. I go on about my life and don't live and breath my diet or weightloss. I can't let it consume my life. I know my way will not work for everyone, but the important part is that it works for me. I lost 100 pounds in the first year. For me it has mostly been about getting to my sweet spot early in the process. If you have only lost a tiny amount it sounds to me like you need more fill. Even that can be frustrating because you can go over into the red zone and be too tight. Then you have to go get a bit taken out to bring you back to the green zone/ sweet spot. It can be well worth it to find the proper fill level.
  16. For the summer I like Nectar brand. You can get samples online so you can check out all the flavors. You mix them with water and they are like a kool-aid type drink. I like the roadside lemonaid flavor.
  17. There are a few things I always keep on hand : Chili, canned chicken, oatmeal, protein powder, cheese, leafy type salad, yogurt / lite, drinkable smoothy type ......... Each of us end up being a little different with what we can and can't eat. I've been banded almost 2 years, so pretty much get in the groove with my own eating patterns. It takes a little time to get it figured out, but I try to keep variety without crossing that line that would cause me discomfort or other problems. You are pre-op? I ended up buying way too much liquid type stuff for the post-op requirements, but it's so hard to know. I got a big bottle of apple juice, took one sip post-op, and ended up throwing out the rest because it was way too sweet. I was never a fan of yogurt before the band, but sure did eat quite a bit in that first few months post-op. I still eat it and put in the blender with protein powder, fruit and ice.
  18. Throwing up black is a symptom of a bleeding ulcer. I agree with the above posters. You need to be seen by a doc. Here is a sample of info you can find on the web: The symptoms of a bleeding ulcer</FONT> If any of the following symptoms of a bleeding ulcer present themselves, we urge you to move swiftly towards getting treatment, and make sure you tell your doctor about all the symptoms you have. The passing of foul smelling black, tarry stools could be one of the first symptoms of a gastric ulcer or a duodenal ulcer that has started bleeding dark red blood in your stools If your ulcer is already at an advanced stage then repeated and different signs of bleeding can be identified. Vomiting of new blood which is bright red in color - this indicates that a gastric ulcer has started bleeding. This will be accompanied by repeated episodes of nausea. Vomiting dark and grainy blood that looks like instant coffee granules. The dark color indicates that this is old blood. unplanned weight loss intense and more localized pain in people with penetrating ulcers - the pain may also radiate to your back faintness and dizziness when standing up - this is due to loss of blood. Over a long period of time, you may become anemic and feel weak, dizzy, or tired all the time. This is typical of a slow bleed left untreated. REMEMBER if you have been diagnosed with a bleeding ulcer or even if you have the slightest suspicion that you are bleeding from an ulcer, please do not hesitate to get emergency medical treatment right away!
  19. The ignore list is also a nice feature here. If someone gets on your nerves, just put them on your ignore list and you never see what they post.
  20. Wendy's small chili 210 calories 17g Protein Starbucks skinny latte 90 calories 9g protein
  21. They include some fat between the stomach and band to help avoid erosion.
  22. not always, one time I did, but it ended up being an altitude issue in the end. That time I went back for a re-fill 2 weeks later to get back to my sweet spot.
  23. I have been this bad before, but you are getting conflicting advise. I guess you are just going to have to wing it for the weekend.
  24. That is "slime". If your coffee is warm or hot, you are only making the swelling worse.
