  1. I didn't blame her at all. Read my post again. I said if I sprung a leak I would get it replaced. The rest of my post was about YOU!
  2. If my band sprung a leak I would get another band in a heartbeat. There is no question about it. Some people will work against the band and any other WLS. It's part of the disease. Success will be hard to find for those people no matter which surgery they choose.
  3. It sounds to me like your brother has a bleeding ulcer or something and should get that checked out by a Dr. The most negative thing for me has been that I lost a lot of hair. It all grew back, so no big deal at this point.
  4. For me carbonated drinks fall into that list of things where it doesn't matter what any Dr. says. I simply can not drink them. They cause discomfort, so I now avoid them without thought or regret ..... no big deal after awhile.
  5. Keep in mind that being approved by an insurance company and being approved by a lapband surgeon are 2 different things. If you are willing to be self-pay you can be banded with a lower BMI and no co-morbid conditions. The idea is that if you are very overweight it won't be long before you do have weight related health issues. My starting BMI was much higher than yours, so that was considered a "morbid" condition all by it's self. Morbid Obesity ....yuck!
  6. IMHO all weightloss surgeries are designed to work that way.
  7. The Negative Nelly you are talking about has been posting here on LBT for a very long time and has always been negative. Many members have tried to get her to stop, but I think that just adds fuel. If she is getting you down, just put her on your ignore list so you never see what she posts. In my own experience I have to disagree with you on one point. The band has worked so well for me that they placed it, filled it, and the weight did come off with no effort. Love the band Of course there have been quite a few Negative Nellys that give me a hard time about that. They say I will make the newbees think the band is magic and they won't have to "work the tool". Well, that IS how it works for me! I do believe the thing is magic.
  8. It is very normal. You may have many sensations and noises in your bandster life. At just 4 days post-op you still have swelling and fluids and air pass through the stoma and make noise. Follow your doc's post-op directions. As long as the fluid is staying down you are fine.
  9. Yes, much of the time I can eat 1/2c of solid food and be satisfied for hours. If I eat soup it's more, but still have to stop if the soup is chunky after 1/2c of the solid parts. I eat 3-5 times a day depending on the day.
  10. That sure does help the mental part of the journey!
  11. 1. How long was your pre-op liquid stage, and what were you told to eat? I did 2 weeks of Atkins to shrink liver (no liquid pre-op diet required) 2. How long was your post-op liquid stage, and what were you told to eat? First week clear (only cold) liquid. Then creamy, then progress with soft/mushie and so on...... 3. What was your follow-up care like with the doctor and his staff -- good, so-so, could be better? My doc did not require constant visits (and zero pre-op testing) and that worked great for me because I live in a different town. He and his staff were there any time I needed, but that was not often. I went back for a couple fills and then didn't go back for 10 months and had almost hit the 100# lost mark. I lost 100 at my 1 year date. I went back for a tiny tweek fill about 11 months after that. My doc has since retired, so I will go to someone he told me to go to in the future. 4. What was the thing you liked best about your experience and the least? It was great that I had zero hoops to jump through pre-op. It's a waste of time and money in my case. The surgery was outpatient. The very best thing has been that this has been the easiest weightloss in my life and the weight has stayed off! The worst thing that has happened during the 2 1/2 years is that I had quite a bit of hairloss. It is all back now, but was a drag for quite some time.
  12. oh, ok ..... I can relate. It will get easier. You will get to the point where it doesn't even sound good. Sometimes it even feels like the brain does get banded. I used to do the McMuffin and hashbrown thing often. Now McDs doesn't sound or smell good. It takes some time, but life gets so much better.
  13. It sounds like you need a fill. I have not been able to eat like that even before I started getting fills. You are banded already right?
  14. This is so true. The foods I can no longer eat have nothing to do with willpower or choosing not to eat them. I have read some posts that say "I refuse to deny myself food". For me, it has nothing to do with denying myself any type of food. The band will not let me eat those things. I am ok with no longer being able to every type of food in the world. These foods I can no longer eat must have been part of the reason I was obese. It has been very easy for me. It has been very basic .... insert band, get a couple fills, the weight melted off. So what if I can't eat steak or bread. I went from a size 24 jeans to a size 10!
  15. Or ........ you could get your fills and not bother counting calories
  16. The problem is that you don't know if you will be able to tolerate steak or not until you are banded. I can not eat steak no matter how much I chew.
  17. I'm a belly sleeper .....yes, you will. I think it took me about 2 weeks to get back to a belly sleeping position. It helps if you sleep on your side with a pillow next to your belly for a few nights.
  18. For me, the band is not a "tool" because I think of a tool as an object I have to manipulate in some way to make it work. A tool is something I myself have to put effort in to get the job done. The band has worked more like a mechanical device. The device is wrapped around my stomach and does restrict the types of food I am able to eat as well as restricting the amount of food I can eat. I have not eaten a normal size plate of food since July 2009. I lost 100 pounds in the first year with very little effort.
  19. It is so strange that we are all so different and you really don't know how it will work for you until the band is in place and you get some adjustments. I was so desperate to get the weight off I really didn't care if I had to eat gruel the rest of my life. I am happy that I can eat more than gruel, but my list of foods that give me trouble is long. From day one of banded life my stomach has been very sensitive. I can no longer eat pizza, hamburgers, french fries, Pasta .......the list is much longer. I no longer even crave these foods. It's a good thing because these foods made me morbidly obese. I figure I have eaten enough of these foods for a lifetime anyway. Sometimes the lessons are hard learned. I'll give you an example: I think I had only my first fill at this stage....can't remember. I had taken a nap and did not eat lunch. I needed to go pick up my grandson from school. There is a McDonalds on the way, so I figured I could drink a bit of coffee and maybe half a small fry from the drive-thru. I pulled in the "flow lane" at the school where many parents line up and wait. I drank about half a small coffee. I ate about 4-5 french fries. All of a sudden it hit me! OMG! I thought I was going to die! I knew I was going to throw up! There were many people around........ all I could do was grab the McDonalds bag and throw up. There was no avoiding it. so......... no more french fries for me and no more fried food at all. .....lesson learned. After food causes pain, discomfort or puke, it no longer even sounds good.
  20. That's why I don't go to the gym
  21. something just does not sound right about all that why couldn't they treat the infection with antibiotics if the band was fine?
  22. no, never heard of it........ what went wrong?
