  1. Hello, I am still pretty new to the Gilbert area and I am looking to connect with new people as well as gain some lap band support. I have been banded for about 5 years and I am looking to move forward again after a few years of having no more loss. I have had all my check-ups and I am ready to go, but I would love some support! I am 29 and married, but open to meeting people of all ages and walks of life! Give me a shout on this thread or on my profile if you are interested!!! Kamie

    Vegetarians and Vegans

Hello everyone, I am glad you started this thread even though it seems like it has bee a little while since anyone posted. I have had my band for about 5 years and I have been a vegetarian for about 3.5. I actually had my band too tight for over 4 years and they told me this was actually hurting me because now I had to overcome the natural tendency to eat carbs bc they go down easier and being a vegetarian and lacking Protein. I recently got my third adjustment after taking almost all my Fluid out to get relief from heartburn. Now I feel like I am at a great place bc I am not getting overly hungry and fill up easily on Beans, Greek yogurt, and egg whites while still being able to eat great veggies (I could barely eat 3 pieces of broccoli before I figured my fill level out). I love being a vegetarian and I hope to go full vegan in the future, with my band, and losing weight like a rockstar! I would love to join a recipe group on FB if that is still an option. Nice to meet you!
  3. Feeling like I am attempting to create a miracle over here!

  7. Hey everyone! I had my surgery on November 17th 2009 and hit a bump in the road when my incision tore open and took an extra month to heal. I am now pretty much healed and I just got my first fill on Tuesday. I have been pretty much following the restrictions of 2 days liquid and now I am on my 1st day of mushies. I understand a little of what you are going through because I have spent everyday since my surgery (except maybe 4 days into healing) wihtout restriction. I had lost seventeen pounds and then gained three. Now I have lost 2 again and I am struggling to maintain healthy eating. I am working out, counting calories, and keeping proteins high. I am just glad to be through my last holiday with no restrictions. Luckily my doctor has me come in on Monday or Tuesdays so that he can be a little more aggressive with my fills. I have a 14 or 16cc band I think and my first fill was 4cc, I have another appointment in 2 weeks so I will just keep plugging away, knowing that as someone else put it, though this weight is tough to lose it won't come back once there is restriction. Lets keep our chins up!

    Blessings bandsters

This is my first Thanksgiving, I am 9 days out of surgery. I am looking forward to my 2 oz of mashed potato dinner, and my mom is using skim milk and light margarine for me. Being without food is really allowing me to think about what I am thankful for this year instead of how high I can pile my plate with food. There is so much that is good in my life and I am thankful for this tool in getting happier and healthier. Thanks for all the support here on LBT and good luck to everyone through the day. Happy Thanksgiving!!
  9. Thinking about you! Hope everything went well!

  10. Hello dowhatitdo1! I was banded last Tuesday, and coming from someone exactly one week prior to your surgery, don't worry it will all be alright! Best of luck and just know the recovery is day by day, but I am never gonna look back now! A new day is right!!!

  12. It went really really well. I had the surgery on Tuesday and now I am off the painkillers and only on a small dose of advil. I am going out to a caffee shop with my mom to just get an iced tea, sip it slow, and join the world again. I am going to be glad for mushies though. BTW you are looking great!!!! Not too much to go, thatns for the inspiration!

  13. I'm banded and healing!!!! I am so happy!!!

    me! bday night. about 194

    Looking fabulous!
  15. Hey! Surgery went really well, thanks for thinking of me! I was only at the hospital for 4 hours and then home. Recovery is okay there are definitely bad moments, but I am getting through it. Almost off pain meds w/ just advil adn incisions seem to be healing okay. I am just wondering how long until I will feel more normal. How are you doing now that you are out a couple weeks? WE ARE NOW BANDSTER BUDDIES! Go us...life here we come!

  16. Hey hey thanks for the messages and thoughts! Surgery went well, doctor said I did great, now I am just recovering. It is crazy! I am not craving anything, I have no concern for food, I even have to remind myself to eat so that I have strength to heal. Incisions hurt a little, gas hurt a ton at first, but I walked it away. My legs, back, and arm muscles hurt really bad though just from getting up and down w/o using my stomach muscles. Other wise I am doing well... almost off of pain meds w/ just advil so thats good. No worries... once insurance gets it set it all goes so so fast!

  17. I am down to a week now! I get banded next Tuesday, so the 17th. I am so excited. I have lost 5lbs so far on the pre-op diet and all my pre-testing is done so I am go for surgery. I want to lose like 120-130lbs. I am only 5'2" so I am actually a really tiny person that I have never known haha, I would be happy with 100lbs, or really just any consistent loss, but it would nice to be the fittest version of myself. well I will be thinking about you today!!

  18. Oh my gosh, I am so excited for you!!! I am on my pre-op diet and getting excited because I am 9 days away, but you must be feeling crazy excited right now! Best of luck and let me know how it all goes!!!!

  19. How is everything coming? Insurance have your paperwork now? Only 9 more days until surgery for me. The preop diet has been alright. I am so sick of the sweetness of protein shakes so if you have to have them get some unflavored powder too I suggest. 1200 calories was hard the first 2 days but has been easy lately. Just thought I would catch up with you. Hope everything is giong well!

    Pre-op diet begins.

So, it is day 1 of my 2 week pre-op diet and I have got so many things going on in my head. I am hungry... both head and real hunger. I have never enjoyed that hungry feeling and I am doing a decent job reminding me that even though it feels totally wrong, being hungry is good for me these 2 weeks. I had my protein shake for breakfast (vanilla isopure with berries and water), an orange, and then a protein shake for lunch (vanilla isopure with SF lemon jello pudding mix). I just got home from school completely ravenous so I had a reduced fat string cheese and now I am thinking I may have the whites of 2 hard boiled eggs. The yolks are just way way too bad... so much fat! That will leave me still with 736 calories for dinner. I am going to have chicken with vegetables and maybe some rice which should get me right around my calorie goal. I wasn't feeling too good, but now I am looking at my day so far and feeling really successful. I just keep thinking of the consequences if I don't work these 2 weeks completely. I want the lap band, I want this change. I am deciding, no one is forcing me... this is the choice that will get me the life a want!

  22. I am actually not banded yet. My surgery is on the 17th of November so I am getting super excited. I have a decent amount of energy now, but I would love to feel less tired after work shifts (I stand all day) and taking stairs and stuff.

    ?? About Starches/Carbs

Wow, it surpirises me that you were told this. I have been told that everyone is different with what they can and can't eat. For example one person I talked to said she can't have bread, even toasted but can have rice or pasta. Another lady told me she can't have pasta or rice at all but can have toast. From what I have heard there are some things that many people find difficult to eat such as corn or fruit with skins on them, or yes starches. But I haven't been told of anything that I will for sure never be able to have again. I am going into my band on November 17th knowing that I may never be able to eat dry meat or bread or corn or really anything, but I have not been told that I definitely won't be able to have any starches at all. If anything, I was told that I should utilize mashed potatoes during my mushies stage. Anyway, this is what I have learned... maybe your doc thinks differently, anyone else have info?
  24. You are looking great!!! How has the process been? Do you find yourself more active and exercising more?

  25. I love that picture of you and your man! So great! I just saw your posting that your surgery date is coming up. Mine too! It is sooo exciting! Well best of luck band buddy!
