  1. My first big goal is -50 lbs from my surgery weight and that should put me at 199 and in wonderland. When I make that I hope to get my tatoo that I've been wanting for quite a while so it will also serve as my commemorative tat !!! Along the way though as I start to slim I figure I'll just be "forced" haha to go shopping !!! Horrible predicament to me in...right ??!! LOL !!!
  2. YAY !! PATTY !!! I'm sooo glad to hear that you have a hell of a handle on this and that you're unstoppable !!! Many hugs and thumbs up !!!
  3. Hey Miss J- I can assure you that everyone on this forum has had or is having the very same feelings you are and yes there are going to be moments of weakness but that's when you will get your opportunity to amaze yourself as to the actual strength that you have to stay on track. For me it helps with the fact that I know that if I dont follow what Im suppose to do, I will cause physical and medical harm that will results in another surgery ! yIKES !!! But you also need to find some external motivating factor and I've posted about this here before but find something that is a dream for you to fit into ( bathing suit, college pants, lingerie) anything and put it somewhere where you will see it everyday with a note to yourself from you saying " Joanna, remeber the goal..you can do this...love, Joanna " and you'll see how that will work wonders !!! Best of luck and no worries you will get throught this, with some gas most likely ( LOL) but it will all work out great !!!
  4. If I really fish for it then i can feel something in the area that the resident pointed out where it is, but I dont have an incision over my port and I guess my "blubber" is cushioning it in a loving embrace...ha haha !!!
  5. Hey everyone, just wanted to see what people's first goal is and how they are planning on rewarding themselves ! I think that having non-food based rewards are very important especially since most of us have hung on to that as a method of comfort our entire lives !!!!
  6. it will!!! i'm on day 5 and its much much better !!!!!!!!!!!!!
  7. Got this recepie from Weigth Watchers website and I remeber making it when I was on their plan a couple of years ago and it was very good. Of course for liquid phase strain and puree till straw thin first !!! 1 1/2 cup fat free skim milk 7 oz low fat cheear or colby cheese about 1 3/4 cups 1 tsp paprika 1/8 tsp black pepper or to taste 1/8 tsp salt 2 tsp olive oil 1/2 cup yellow onion chopped (I left this out and had no taste complaints) 3 tbs all purpose flour 2 cup fat free chicken broth (the low sodium stuff is great too, watch that salt intake) Heat oil in a large saucepan over a medium high heat, add onion (if u want) cook until soft. Add flour and stir to coat. Add chicken broth bring to boil stirring frequently. Reduce heat to meduim and simmer until soup thickens about 1-2 minutes. Add milk and return to boil stirring constantly. Working in batches puree soup in a blender until smooth. (Be very careful...probably let it cool had troubles with this part first time I made it haha NOT pretty) Reheat soup til a boil and remove from heat. Whisk in the cheese stir until melted, if cheese never melts heat until it does so. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Use paprika as a garnish!
  8. Ditto ! I had a small haitial hernia repaired also ! had no idea it was there and besides the very occasional and mild heartburn never really had any symptoms !!!
  9. Ditto Abbypoo ! I had brought my ipod and a book and was so uncomfortable and out of it that I just watched some TV. I also stayed ON which I think was great since that morphine was heaven ! I wouldnt even really bother with the PJ's it's much more comfortable to stay in the gown !! It's really hard to even bend down to pee, much less change into PJ IMHO !!! But dont forget a pillow for the ride home, very important to cushion your tummy !!!!! Best wishes, will be thinking of you !!
  10. Hey mommie, I had some of this as well but as the days go by it's subsided. I'm chacking it up to gas !! Gas can be very sneaky and take many forms including making you think ur having a massive heart attack !!!
  11. Abbidon ! Congrats !!! it's day 6 for me and I'm dying for the day where it feels normal again ! Thnx for letting me know that I'll get there !! Ebbony Rose: thanks for your kind words and inspiration. We could really use some more of your kind hearted wisdom as we take our baby steps !! THNX !!!!
  12. Summeragain- I totally know what you are going through and I was down right terrified the morning of, but let me assure you that these people are there to take care of you and that you will be in the best hands. And the best part is the VERSED that they give you in the OR is the most wonderful thing under the stars- you wont feel a thing and wont remeber a thing either. my anesthesia guy said that he woke me before taking the breathing tube out and asked me a question, I have absolutely no recollection of that happening !!! The morphine afterwards is really great too !! relax and take a deep breath it will all be worth it !!!
  13. My thoughts EXACTLY Darce- it just surprise me how people who are screaming in for the first time -felt so GD entitled to berade the crap out of all of us who have been here supporting eachother since the beginning ! i am not disputing the vadility of their message and I think that there experience is a GOLDEN Opportunity to teach us--but there is a right way and the wrong way that is just gonna make most people revert to our teen years and let it go in one ear and out the other and that would be a DAMN shame, because I know what they are saying and trying to teach us is priceless !!!! Beth- thanks for hearing my message and I look forward to your experience and post that will guide us that are just learning and making mistakes because we just dont know better right now !! For others deciding to CHIME in now, I hope you remeber what the uncertainty and the emotions that you were going throug at the begining and have some thought before you jump in !! With that said this is my last post on this thread since it is becoming a useless discussion and not helpful to those that really need the support !!!
  14. DO888- I think the key is to make sure that you're getting in the required protein. I believe it's a minimum of 50g a day but I might be wrong, check your instructions. As long as you're getting the protein and the liquids, IMHO i think the number of calories isnt truly the most important thing at this point. Once you get on solids that you might need to start caloried counting to make sure you dont go over the 1200 !!!
  15. Yea, cause it seem to loose intrest in what Im eating quick, which Im taking as a good sign and hope to continue. When I'm not looking fwd to the next "bite" or spoon then I just put it down. I might come back to it later. Some of the "feeling" goes away but I guess I'm still having gas issues cause I then get the pressure in between ny breast with some belching...I guess unforgettable is right this is going to be some learning curve !!!
  16. Hey people, just wanted to throw this out there and see if anyone else having to play the guessing game. Most of the time I cant tell if the pain that I am getting is from the gas or because I'm actually starting to feel hunger again ?? I just tend to eat about 1/2 a cup of Soup when I feel something ( which takes me about an hour) and see. Anyone else expereince this or have any advice ???
  17. Hey Abbypoo Glad to hear that you're home and in great hands ( wish my mom was here ). Get your rest and whenever you can walk and walk even if it's just in the hallway that should help with the gas. One word of advice if you start to get nauseau just have your primary call in some Zofran, it worked wonders on me and finally allowed me to sleep !!!
  18. thanks for the input ladies. I decided to try the lentil soup, pureed with milk till straw smooth and it was great ( no spinach or ham though) and today I pureed as per sinstructed some of hale & hearty's chicken and corn chowder, it looses some of the appeal because of the absent texture but the taste is still there !!! ** Just wanted to clarify that i called the doctor on call and he said that as long as it is pureed and thin'd out enough to sip through a straw it is fine **
  19. Hey Abby, I think it started like that for all of us, it does get better but you just need to keep reminding yourself to do it. I've been bad about this and was shocked into shape when my pee was amber !!! So sip sip sip. Kelloggs makes a lemonade powder to add to water that has 5g of protein so you can knock 2 in one.
  20. Adela, Im so sorry to hear about the infection but if you look at it on the bright side the pain has subsided and hopefully the antibiotics will take care of it soon !! Great job on the 9 lbs !!!!!
  21. I was just wondering because it seems that alot of surgeons have alot of different reccomendations. Some full liquids for week1 or 10 days, others soups, others nothing..so I was just wondering what everyone else was doing and if you have any recepies for these first couple of days...please share !!!
  22. Adela- I know it will be alright, I think most of us are just going through something that we never expereinced before and really had no way of knowing how to prepare for mentally or physically. I'm sure that there is a perfectly fine non-urgent explanation for what your feeling and that onyl time will heal ( unfortunately) !!
  23. Kristen, I know you'll do great tmrw ! It'll go by faster than you think !!!
  24. Hey ladies, my consensus is the same things are better today but I feel that the gas gets a little worse after my soup. My naseau is better and I think I just need to sleep in more of an incline tonight and see what happens. I got 3 hours on the recliner this morning and seem to do fine. Jen let me know how it goes tommorow. maybe they can give you a shot for the pain or something? do you have to see the nutrionist too ? What Soups have you been having ? I just tried some very watery lentil soup done in the blender. Okay girls hope we all feel better tmrw !!
