  1. mine doesn't allow weights or strength either till 6 weeks in particular abs.. but i didn't think the elliptical trainer was part of that. Now its a moot point I am SOOOOOOOOO sick. I've done nothing the last few days. Not walking home (1.6 miles) no gym no nothing.
  2. Thats interesting - every doctor has a different viewpoint it seems. But I would have been more worried if he told you to eat food right AFTER he filled you just 2 weeks after surgery - that would sound very aggressive to me. I went on solids the other day - I had a chicken burger and I did take 3 bites too fast and I had the 'stuck' feeling - no pain (mild) but just that the food was sitting in my chest - if i ate another bite I'm sure i would have had the pain or if I were more restricted too. Interesting because i can guzzle Water down.
  3. I've gotten creative and have not minded it at all Chile - lean ground meat/beans/ pomi/ spices I do blend this and I don't mind it. I sometimes melt cheese on it for an extra treat (I try and stay within 35 grams of fat but sometimes i will go up to 60). I LOVE the lemon sole - I do use 1/2 tbspn butter and a lemon and pan fry i can live on this blended chicken is pretty gross i agree - i bought some Soup and added that into the soup so that it seems more like mashed soup. i have done it with vichysoisse soup and avgolemono fat free refried Beans, cheese melted and also flax seed meal (good for your hair). fage 0% yogurt and honey get lo fat ricotta - and mix some tomato or marinara sauce and melt mozzarella on it (this one i screwed up and got the skim version and its too much fat so I don't eat it too much).
  4. Amanda did they do the fill w/ an x-ray - how can they tell there is a stenosis of the stoma?
  5. Hi Loveslady you made it over here! So you are getting filled 2 weeks after surgery and essentially doing 2 more days of liquid and the do regular low carb on Oct 3 right? So another question to ask is has anyone gone right to solids before week 3 post op and as early as the second week? And skip over the mushy stage on post op? Has anyone had a fill as early as 2 weeks? Wonder how much of a fill he would give you - let us know.
  6. I confess I haven't gone back.. I've actually been home sick since yesterday w/ a sore throat and fever. On the bright side that port pain is now gone. I haven't even gone to work. Walking is good it didn't bother me - i was doing 1.5 miles the day after surgery - just had a bit of discomfort again that same thing the port. But after about 10 days it was totally gone. And also my brother's dog pulled me the day after (not hard at all) and it hurt there too. I've been walking home from work daily which is 1.7 miles. If I can throw in 30 mins on the elliptical i would be happy even if its 3 times a week.
  7. good luck let us know how it goes tomorrow? Will you be doing liquids after? I can't wait to lose too!
  8. On the main page of lapband talk just scroll down there are many other different groups this one is under 2009 bandsters and if you click on that you can see each months forum. I am not saying you should skip the mushy stage just so that I am not being misinterpreted. I'm not a doctor so not saying anything - just lettign you know what they told me to do. No solid food for 3 weeks post op - and after fills 2 days liquid 2 days mushy then solid food each time after a fill.
  9. stardustic you were done same day as me right? (9/11). And you felt no soreness at all in ur port area the first time after the workout? It isn't normal muscle soreness and today it was practically gone... But I wouldn't do another workout the next day until that was completely gone. Worried I will aggravate it even more. Do u feel back to 100 pct 'normal' with regard to any pain or soreness? I was until I did the elliptical. It's still not intolerable but I went from 0 to about a 2 on pain. Will try again tomorrow.
  10. He was going to fill you and then have you go right to food? That sounds weird to me. You were banded sep 21 or thereabouts right? Post on the sept group and ask if anyone has gone to solid foods 2 weeks post op (that is where you would be right?). If you post w/ a specific topic you will get those answers. So I see two things wrong with that 1) you would be eating solids before you should be - stomach needs to heal for about 3 weeks 2) you would be getting a fill and eating solids right away - my place has you do 2 days liquids, 2 days mushies after a fill. I don't know what others are doing (again you can post that as a new thread probably in post op section) I would post threads w/ these questions as here you get less traffic on this particular thread. Its just us who have been following this thread - not that we can't tell you what we think but you would get more opinions and figure out what is best.
  11. Hi all: Ok today I made my way to the gym - figured 30 minutes elliptical would be good. While I was on there I felt good so I did resistance (not alot no more than 5 for intervals) and inclines and guess what ? My abs hurt near the port after not as in sore but like it felt a few days after surgery. They say not to do any ab exercises and I wouldn't consider this one an ab exercise except of course you do use your core to balance. Dr has ok'ed exercise just not weight. Anyone have experiences? Up to now I have been walking.
  12. coloradomom i agree the dailyplate is much better i've tried both. Just be careful on the exercise calories the two things I do and checked were way overstated (walking and elliptical trainer). Walking 3.5 miles an hour is only 350 calories no matter how fast or slow you walk it (100 calories per mile). They say its more like 600? (i forget)... one entry is high "walk" but 'walking' looks closer. Elliptical is no way 800-900 cals an hour. I went with the value on the machine. Oddly they got riding right.
  13. Hi - when you are able to eat mushies get the Greek 0% yogurt (FAGE brand or any brand). My first mushy meal was this and the gas went away fairly quickly. I have a cup a day or every other day. The liquid diet doesn't help the gas situation either. sep 21 was just a few days ago - I was lucky in that by day 10 I felt fairly normal. I did go to work 5 days later but was getting tired. I worked a full day (well for normal people a full day for me it was an early day i.e. 9-5) 2nd week been back to working 11-12 hours. Everyone heals at different pace.
  14. September 09 Bandsters - LAP-BAND Quick weightloss preop - 5 unjury protein shakes a day - nothing else but 2 cups of veggies (not potatoes) regular veggies; mushrooms tomatoes, onions, peppers, brocollli. Alot of hot broth. I lost 14 lbs in two weeks. Crazy. Oh no don't give up you will be fine - it will be worse to undo everything and heal all over. hang in there.
  15. normal to not have BM's it took me 3 or 4 days and then ANOTHER 3 or 4 days again. I took Colace. Once. Once you get to mushies it will all get normal including the annoying gas in your tummy that doesn't go anywhere just makes it uncomfortable to eat/drink... which means when that goes away you will be more hungry! I am 2 weeks post op now, about to end mushies next week. You feel better and quickly once you go on to the mushies (I went on them 10 days after surgery).
  16. PS its all that ricotta cheese - i never even saw any low fat at the store! just skim and whole milk! I made chili today - that is about 200 cals a cup low fat. Used lean beef, kidney Beans, tomoto sauce and Indian spices. Really good - and the refried beans is another really good one! filling and really yummy. And that has some carbs and no fat too. How much fat are you staying to? I try and stay to about 35g but have gone up to 60 on the ricotta days. Calories are about 1100 to 1300 mostly on the lower end of that. And Protein I really try to keep at over 80 grams. I am going to add flax seed meal because I was posting about the Omega 3's and saw all the posts on hair loss - i have thin hair to being with!
  17. i was down like 20 lbs after the surgery while on liquids soon as I went to mushies I gained about 2-3 lbs. Holding steady there but that is ok not stressing. I did the math and I should not have lost that weight but only 12 lbs - so I must have lost some muscle which weighs more than fat is all I can think. I am really great about the water i keep a 1 liter bottle filled at my desk and i drink 2-3 of them. I need to hit the gym though - i am just walking about 1.5 miles a day which is better than nothing but not really enough.
  18. What are you supposed to do if you get stuck. They told me but I don't quite remember. I think they said wait it out... and then do warm liquids and to do liquids the rest of the day as well - does this sound like what they told you? I actually got some pain today (prestuck) and it took a while to pass but it did - this was on lemon sole flaked up but i ate too fast I think. Does the foam come up on its own or are you trying to bring it up? Did you panic? I am afraid of this! Glad you are ok! Yea normally I am riding twice a week (not as much as a like) and that is about 650 cals an hour. I can't imagine running though - i am a few lbs heavier than you at 222 but I am so not build to run. I'll end up with more sports injuries. Will be going to gym soon to do the elliptical trainer - and I am ready to ride but my horse is out of commission now.
  19. Where do you get the gummies (what are they called?) and how much fish oil does it give - I was taking nearly 3000 mgs. GREAT idea on the flax seed and i HAVE some - 2 tbspns 2400 mg. Is that what you take? Also can you take the gummies if you are on mushies post op? or after fills?
  20. What are you all doing about taking Omega 3 or any other Essential fatty acids? They are usually large pills and Iknow i can bite them but not loving the fishiness.
  21. Bonmag I am 2 weeks post op. Did your husband do adjustments on you? I was just wondering if i can go to my biweekly chiro appt at 2 weeks out.
  22. I am just now starting to feel like I can do something more than walking (still no weights or anything) but elliptical I can do - about to be 2 weeks post op. I liked the emails sparkpeople sends there was one about working out in the AM which i really HATE to do but I should read that email daily and maybe I will motivate!
  23. i asked this exact question to my nutritionist. First you can't possibly get enough protein on 1/2 cup of food. She told me to try and aim for 80-90 grams. She said the focus is healing and the important part is to eat the pureed food and I can eat 1 cup if after i eat the 1/2 cup I am still hungry. I love love love lemon sole pan fried w/ a pat of butter and a whole lemon - this yoou can eat just mash it up. noodleless lasagna - low fat ricotta, mozzarella and Pasta sauce (its a bit high calorie though another poster told me i can find lower calorie ricotta) tuna but not loving that Soups - lentil, potato leek (blend the lemon sole in the late) egg salad or scrambled eggs greek 0% yogurt I am going to make chili (burger beans and spices then blend it) refried beans w/ melted cheese
  24. JenFenRen - you sound like you have the same thing that happened to me. They use a certain anesthetic to intubate you and relax your muscle and for many that results in the feeling that you had a bootcamp workout. It was worse than the surgery pain - its bad enough you have no core strength but my neck muscles hurt , delts, legs everything. It will go away in two days. and yes keep walking. the worst thing you can do for muscle soreness is nothing you will get stiffer and stiffer.
  25. When did you go on solids? Did that feel any more filling? or any different? I am hoping so but probably not since we need to chew to the pureed point anyway. I am at about the same calories. I'm going to average it out for the week once I've logged it for a week. but its about 80 or more grams of protein, 35 grams of fat is what I aim for (unless I had too much of the ricotta thing); anywhere from 30-50 grams of carbs the less the better for me... but i have not had any greens and i'm feeling like i miss that.
