  1. Thank you all for your support! I'll update if I share my decision with my fam and let you know how it went. Jennifer, I am interested to hear your experience. Good luck with your surgery!
  2. Wow, after two years is this really happening?! I am finally going to have my sleeve done in Mexicali w/ Dr. Aceves on July 28th!!!! It's still unreal because I just finalize my date and paid the deposit today. Getting my flight tonight. I guess as I start buying things and start my liquid diet it will become real to me. Part of me is saying it's not going to happen so don't get too excited. Yet, the other half can't stop dancing. :laugh0: Anyway, I mentioned a liquid diet but wanted to say that my surgeon does not require one. Low carb high Protein for 7-10 days pre-op is required. I just want to do the liquid because...I do! I like knowing that if I just can't tolerate pure liquids that I can pick something off the list and still be ok. I will probably be going alone but there's a chance my friend might come with. I'm at a crossroad with telling my fam. I really want to have it done then tell them afterward so that they won't be worried to death while I'm in surgery and out of the country. On the other hand if something were to happen, their shock would unimaginable. I used to be able to say I deal with that when the time comes but now the time is here! They don't anywhere near me so it's now like I have to account for being MIA but I usually talk to them everyday. While in Mexico I will not be using my phone regularly because the cost is tooooo high. Hopefully I can get away with 2 or less calls. Just want to share my news. Yeaaaaaaa!
  3. Wow, that is some scary stuff! It's terrible you went all the way down there and didn't have surgery but after that experience I wouldn't want to be put under either. I'm glad you made it through okay. As a nursing student that is one of my fears about medication administration. Those plungers can be hard to push slowly (especially for a newbie) and it is so important to get the timing right because of side effects like the one you had. I wish you the best as you try to do it on your own.
  4. I'm sorry you feel disappointed in the site. As you can tell by the responses you've received in this thread, we mean no harm and really are here for you!! I haven't read your original post so I don't know what complication you had but hopefully you are doing better! I'm going to find your other thread now. :-)
  5. I didn't know Sonic sells their ice in a bag. I love the texture! The hospital where I do my clinicals has great ice also but It would be nice to have it have home. I'm a gulper so it is going to be hard to sip sip sip. Especially with the thirsty feeling you guys are talking about. Hang in there!
  6. Congrats! Let us know how everything goes.
  7. I know I told you the other night but congrats again!!! I am so excited about the change that is coming (sometime in the near future lol). If you hit that big bucks send a few my way!:-)
  8. Thanks! Have you asked your dr about follow up? Even if he doesn't perform VSG's he may be able to provide the aftercare. I believe we just need labwork and the barium swallow at 3, 6 and 12mths out right?
  9. I too am going to have surgery with him once I find financing. I don't have insurance so I go to dr office that provide service specifically for people paying out of pocket. I am going to contact them to see if they will follow up or if they can refer me to someone who will follow up. I'm interested to see if anyone has found such a doc and how they went about finding him/her. Do you have any idea when you will have surgery?
  10. Glad to hear you are doing so well! Continue to heal and have a safe trip home.
  11. I think the spinal is optional. I actually don't want it because I have scoliosis and I don't want anyone poking around back there! I heard the spinal works wonders for pain management though. Good luck with your surgery!
  12. Very good questions! I had a lot of the same ones but was going to wait closer to my surgery date to post. Now I don't need to! I've seen some posts about surgery with Aceves in the hospital sub-forum so check there for more info. Best of luck!
  13. I love your website. You have a lot of good info on there. I pray your surgery went well today! Let us know how you are doing when you can.
  14. Best of luck to you. I'll have to check your site out!
  15. Thanks! I'm actually thinking about the last week in July or the first week in Aug because of my school schedule. Good luck on getting your approval and keep in touch Tlynnles!
  16. I'm going to Mexico alone and decided not to tell anyone either. I've told one of my friends that is in the "trying to lose weight boat" but that's it. It's definitely a scary thought of being in another country and going through major surgery but I feel it will be the best thing I have ever done for myself. Everyone post op says it was worth it and the only thing they would change is doing it sooner. Best of luck to you and we are here to support you!
  17. Yay!! It's so exciting to get a surgery date. I know I will be floating when I get mine as well lol. What can you have on the slim fast pre-op diet? Do you just drink those instead of protein shakes?
  18. Congrats! I've heard that if you have proof you applied for the passport you can still cross the border. Definitely ask about that if you don't get it in time. I know you would hate to have to reschedule!
  19. That sucks. Hope you're staying hydrated and you make it home soon!
  20. Thanks for all the updates Tracy! Hope her pain level is better when she wakes up. You'll have to let us know how your swallow test goes! :-)
  21. I can only imagine your anticipation at this point. Hopefully the next two days go by quickly and this can be behind you! Good luck with your surgery.
  22. Congrats Nursygirl! I'm trying to get an August date but haven't heard anything yet. Hoperfully I'll be right behind you! What kind of pre-op diet do you have to do (if any)?
