    lapbands and relationships

abbypoo- I feel the same way about my boyfriend...I love him and his son more than I have loved anyone else in my life....I am doing this for US not just me---- I want a child with him (as he does with me) and I need to be healthy to do that. He is extremely supportive. He drove 3 hrs to spend the day with me after surgery to make sure I was ok.... I know he loves me and I sure hope he knows how much I love him and want him to love the new, improved me....
  2. Alex please update us on the cams in the chat room.... I have sent u and Ken S. multiple messages..........Thanks

  3. No peanut butter til week 4 for me.... I like the EAS Low Carb protein drinks at Walmart.... Chocolate Fudge...yummo.
  4. NO GUM!! If you swallow it may need emergency surgery- per my doc he has had to do this 2 times in 2 yrs... no gum ever! It can block the top stomach to the lower stomach... I didn't have much pain so can't help there.
  5. felk- of course you are hungry- there is not any Protein in Jello and broth- YOU NEED TO DRINK Protein shakes.... that is where the answer is.... when u switch to mushies choose the ones with protein (eggs, cheese) not carbs (mashed potatoes) I am 21 days out (including Pre-Op) and am down 20lbs and i am sure it is because I am doing the protein first! Plus I started walking at the gym 30 mins a day on Sunday.... I want all the Freedom Fighters to put up a good fight against this FAT we have and dedicate yourself to this plan.... follow what your NUT and DR told you to do and WALK, WALK, WALK!!!!! When you are hungry remind yourself why you did this and get a goal in your head.... it's not easy, if it was everyone would have a band....if you need encouragement stop in the chat room and you will find some there!!! Love and Hugs to all of you!!!
  6. Belly- I didn't know that Dr. Greene even had a partner- my surgeon that I work for refers a lot of patients to Dr. Greene- when he returns from vacation I will be informing him of this outrageous program fee and hopefully he will stop referring patients to him. Thanks for the heads up. I have a friend who had bypass @ Johns Hopkins Bayview and a great success. I would recommend Johns Hopkins they have being doing WLS for a significant time now. I am sure if you get in soon and explain your situation they can get u a date for December.... the only issue I would be concerned about if your insurance knows you switch in January if they will drag their feet to get u authorization. I would call and ask them when u are finished your 6 month diet how long does it take them to review ur records and approve your surgery? Good Luck and keep us posted!!

  9. I had my gallbladder out 2 yrs ago and just had my band 10 days ago. Gallbladder was much worse. The gas pains I had with my gallbladder were awful.... I had some pains with lapband but they were bearable...I was sore for a few days-- I feel back to normal today...good luck.

How often do you weigh in?

I weigh every morning when I do my Wii Fit... it gives you BMI and Weight.... I don't ever move the board so it is accurate...sometimes it moans when I step on it....hate that! Good Luck
  12. I was banded 8 days ago- the first 4 days I had a shake in am and broth at lunch and jello for dinner....water was the most important (and hardest thing to get in).... are you allowed pudding yet? I wasn't allowed till yesterday (week 2) good luck! I have lost one pound a day since surgery.
  13. Amen HH- DO NOT LET THEM KEEP DOING THIS.... it is in DIRECT violation of their contracts.... if you don't report them who will? Good luck

  16. Hi Bobbie!

I am doing better everyday...gonna try to head into work tomorrow for 1/2 day and see how it goes. I seem tired all the time but I am sure that is my body recovering.

I am down 19.5 lbs since pre-op (7.5 in last week) I am happy about that. I can finally have creamy soups and that makes me happy...LOL...it's the little things...

    HOW ARE YOU?

It is so sweet you checking in on me- I truly appreciate it!!

  17. If it is for the nutritionist then tell them you will see one that accepts your insurance. I would call and tell them that you can not afford an additional $2500 on top of your portion of the insurance. They can not tell you which nutritionist or shrink to see- they set up these "buddy" systems that they direct traffic to so and so for the psyh evaluation or nutritionist - if they have a nutritionist on staff then it should be billed to your insurance. If they don't like the amount they get reimbursed from that then tough crap (hint to doctor, negotiate your contract better) Legally if they accept ur insurance and the person is on their staff they have to accept what your insurance pays less copays and deductibles. If you need more help with this send me a private message with your email and I can try to help you out. I run 4 medical facilities and am familiar with insurance.

    please help

HH- Sometimes you need to sit back and read your posts before you send them. Going off on people for their OPINIONS is not productive. I have read many of your posts and you seem to be getting more and more aggressive lately. I appreciate everyone's opinion on here about the band- I came to this site to get info to supplement the info my doctor gave to me. To see what "real life" was for people banded. I got mine on July 16th and have lost 19.5lbs so far. I feel that this is the right choice for me but I researched for over 2 years between this and the bypass. I didn't like the surgical risks (5 times higher than the lapband), or the complications associated with bypass in the long run or having to take supplements long term. But those were my reasons not to get the bypass. Take care and keep reading this site is a wealth of information. Evie
  19. i am doing good. moved onto full liquids today. one major tip is to really talk to the doc and nutritionist about your post-op diet- so you know exactly what they want you to eat/drink. I am seeing a lot of people in chat newly banded who are way off with what they should be doing and that can hurt your band. I am still sore- glad I decided to take the whole week off. I was planning on going back today but decided Monday to give myself a break. Thanks for checking in on me....

  20. Hi! I had a rough few days but today I woke up and feel pretty good. Was nice to finally sleep in my own bed. I weight this am and am down another 4.5 lbs in the last 4 days! YIPPEEE... that makes it worth the hard work and pain. thanks so much for caring enough to check in on me. Talk to you soon.

  21. OK listen I live around the N VA area where you are--- there are many other doctors who do not have these program fees. No you will not have to pay it if you choose another doctor, they can not keep your medical records from you because you OWN your medical records.... so saying that you need to google lap band doctors in northern va.... or even look to MD if you have insurance.... Dr. Barry Greene is AWESOME and doesn't have that fee. I would go to him but I am self pay and he is $7k higher than where I am going in Michigan....tomorrow! You will not have to start all over again, and if you have insurance why did you pay out of pocket for you evaluation? That makes no sense.... some of these doctors are playing a game and it makes all doctors look bad.... good luck.

    Here goes nothing...

With military insurance (Tri-care?) I believe the requirements are BMI of +37 with one co-morbidity or BMI of 45 with no co-morbidities. I have seen threads on here in regards specifically to Tri-Care and the requirements and pre-op hoops you have to jump. Generally the rule of thumb is if you are 100 lbs overweight than WLS is an option over diet/exercise. Good Luck and keep us all posted!!
  23. I have posted this on 3 different threads.... there were 20 of us in there last night so someone is spreading the news.... most active times are around 10am (est) and 7pm (est) hope to see you soon!!! spread the word...
