  1. Oh, and thank you, my work out kitty is flattered
  2. Thanks guys... I guess I really just want some idea of calorie restricton so that I know if I am or am not going stupid with what I eat. FitDay is really helping me monitor my protein and opening my eyes to what foods are/are not high in fat. I guess what inspired this post is the fact that my scales were being a bit funky this week, heading in the wrong direction - although today on weekly weigh in day they have returned to the same spot they were in last week.
  3. Sad to say that my scales did not move this week... mid-week they started to creep UP, but this morning on official weigh-in day they were exactly where they were last weekend. I know this will happen from time to time, doesn't make it any less sad. 4. I feel someone comforted to know that I'm not the only person who is a little bit confused about what to eat, how many calories and the like - so I thought it might be a nice idea for us to share what we have been eating to compare and see what is/isn't working out. I am unsure of what calories/protein levels I should be reaching, but I have been tracking this through FitDay and aiming for <1000 calories per day and approx 60 grams of protein - does this sound correct? My surgeon also asked me to only eat three times per day, but I need to talk to him about that as I really feel like I need to eat four times. As I work on a mine site, my day starts at 5am, I have breakfast at 8am, lunch at 12 and I feel like I need something around 4.30pm to tide me over until 7.30pm when I get home from gym - seven and a half hours just seems like a LONG time to go between lunch and dinner. Anyway, below is what I've eaten over the past couple of days and I welcome you to critique it if there is something glaringly wrong: THURSDAY: Kickstart = Instant coffee with skim milk & one sugar / Breakfast = 1 cup of cantaloupe with 1/4 cup low fat greek yoghurt / Lunch = 1/2 cup of apricot chicken and rice / Snack = 2 x multigrain crisp breads with tuna / Dinner = 1 x soft taco with ground beef, lettuce, tomato and low-fat cheese ----- total calorie intake was 922 calories, 62 grams of protein FRIDAY: Kickstart = Instant coffee with skim milk & one sugar / Breakfast = 2 slices of multigrain toast with yeast extract (vegemite) / Lunch = 1/2 cup of taco mince with 1/2 cup of salad / Dinner = 2 small crumbed chicken strips with a small salad ----- total calorie intake was 925 calories, 50 grams of protein
  5. I was wondering the same... I am at the moment aiming to remain under 1000 calories per day, and get in between 60-80 grams of protein but I am not sure if this is correct.
  6. Hi there, I had my band put in the day after you, and I have had my period twice - I used to only get it once or twice a year. As for hungry, I'm not suffering from hunger at all but I am undoubtedly eating a little more than I should be, just trying to make healthy choices and eat fresh, wholesome foods. I haven't gained weight, but my weight loss has definitely slowed down. My surgeon put no fill in my band, this could be the case with you too - hang in there my friend, the period between banding and adjustment is not easy and most surgeons don't except to see a massive loss during this time.
  7. I find it hard to believe that a rural area has every fast food outlet under the sun available but no actual restaurants. A potato may be a potato, an egg may be an egg, but you don't really know what they're smothering that potato with or what they're cooking that egg in before it makes it onto your plate. I do live in the real world, I work very long hours on a mine site and I know what it's like to be tired and feel like you can't be assed to cook tonight - but I do this thing called pre-planning and time management. Each weekend I cook at least one to two meals in the slow-cooker (chop it up, chuck it in, it cooks itself) and freeze them. I also always have on hand healthy alternatives such as tins of tuna, tubs of low fat yoghurts/custards/fruits, eggs that can be scrambled for a simple dinner. I'm not saying I am a saint and won't EVER touch fast food again, I just REFUSE to 'plan' to eat it or consider it a part of my regular routine and I honestly think anyone who is already doing this after going through the time, effort, expense and pain that we've just been through is really silly. I think that claiming that you must eat out every day, or every other day is nothing short of a cop out and people making excuses for their own inability to be planned and organised. Try harder, you owe it to yourself.

  9. My nutritionist and surgeon are both fine with tea & coffee, maximum of three cups per day - but I only drink one.
  10. I am 18 days post-op and am beginning to introduce solids; I am eating slowly and chewing well, and I have had no issues at all. Some things I have eaten are grain toast; silverside; mashed potato; pasta.
  11. Hi there The sensation is gone; my surgeon thought it was perhaps swelling and he did not think anything was stuck as I had not consumed anything capable of getting stuck. It only lasted about 4 or 5 days. Hope you feel better soon.
  12. I have not touched fast food since I commenced my pre-op diet and I don't plan on touching it any time soon; to those of you who are already eating fast food and doing it on a regular/recurring basis, I sincerely hope it doesn't affect your journey in the wrong way but I would not be in the least bit surprised if it does.

  14. Hi Sal Hope all went okay! Kel
  15. Glad to hear all went well Miss Kate; the next few days may have their tough moments, hang in there my friend :blushing:
  16. Today is the day for the beautifil Miss Kate... !!! Best wishes to you Kate, let us know how you are when you are up to it - I'm sure you'll be a star!
  17. Thanks girls... I went and had a lovely hour-long facial and massage today and my skin is feeling much better. Could have been dehydration. I'll make sure I keep up the moisturiser and try to drink more water :-)
  18. My first fill isn't until 7 weeks post-op!
  19. How is your skin/hair, post-op people? My skin is incredibly dry, I am off to have a facial in the morning. Hair is a little dry as well.
  20. Hi I've been banded a week today, I plan on hitting the gym next week just for light cardio. I'll get into weights etc in about 6 weeks.
  21. I'm glad your mum is going with you, it's nice to have someone there for moral support. Don't be scared; I have had various issues (gas pain, now this throat thing, etc) BUT I don't regret having the surgery yet and I'm sure you won't either - it wasn't meant to be easy, but we are strong and we can do this. Do you have MSN messenger or AIM? I see you have Yahoo, but that's the only one I don't have. I'd love to have you on my contact list. Be strong Miss Kate, you can do this
  22. Okay, so it's confession time - I am stupid as well. I didn't quite eat what you did, I just had a lapse in concentration. My mother was making a casserole to blend for me for when I move onto mushies and she went out, so she asked me to take it out of the oven and check it was cooked... so what did I do? I put a piece of the steak in my mouth and before I realised what I was doing, I chewed and swallowed! Thank goodness she had already pre-cut the steak into teeny tiny little pieces... I wasn't in any form of severe pain, but it uncomfortable and it was a bizarre feeling it go down my throat and then slowly slowly crawl back up again. Must concentrate in future when around food!
  23. Hi Everyone Thank you so much for your responses, I apologise if I appeared hysterical - I was 3 hours away from home with people who just didn't understand what I was going through, whilst I was really upset about this sensation that wouldn't pass, they were busy making plans to go out for dinner (very helpful). I didn't have contact details with me for anyone who could help me, it was just awful. The sensation is still there today, I have done some research and it seems it is quite common (although I couldn't find a solid answer for why) and it can last for weeks (please god, don't let it last for weeks!). Anyway, I rang my surgeon but he wasn't available so I have an appointment to see his partner surgeon on Wednesday afternoon. Thank you again for helping me through my psychotic moment!
  24. What do you mean by "feeling swollen"? I feel like my stomach is in my throat at the moment, it's felt like that for two days, it's awful.
  25. Hi Kate Thanks so much for asking; I have been a little absent from the forums. I coped well with hospital, apart from the god-awful gas pain. I am currently being driven insane by some awful sensation that feels like my stomach is in my throat, apparently this is caused by swelling but I have made an appointment with my surgeon for Wednesday just in case it hasn't passed. It's making me miserable, I hope it passes soon. How are you?
