July 2009 Mile Challenge
Hi WillowCat. You are my HERO! I don't think I could have made up days missed. Every time I come back to this thread and read the post, the more I am motivated to do more. I told my husband last night that it would be difficult for me to continue with a 50 mile goal for next month because I go back to work. I never considered that some of you do not get the summer off and have been working and finding time to exercise. Thanks to all of you, I am not going to set a lower goal for next month. I am going to make the effort daily and do more on the weekend. If I miss a day, I will make it up over the course of the challenge. Thanks again! Now to get to your celebration. How about going to the movies or a day at the beach if you are close enough. A day of window shopping is great. You can imagine yourself in cute, smaller size outfits. Maybe a mani/pedi spa treatment. You truly deserve that after all of the miles you have logged. Whatever you decide let us know. I truly hope you are part of the monthly challenges from here on out. We do not have to change a thing. We can set our own goals and be here to continue to encourage one another. If it weren't for you all, I would have stopped a long time ago.

July 2009 Mile Challenge
Hi Jenai, I understand what you are going through with the hot temps. I live in Southeast Texas. Its hot and humid most of the year here. We never get use to it. The seminar sounds wonderful. Would you mind sharing your experience with us? I know you will gather a lot of useful information that will make living with the band that much easier. I'm am so glad you are doing well with the challenge. Coming into the challenge later than most of us you still have logged some impressive miles. Keep it up. Congratulations on your 24th Anniversary!

Blood in the syringe
I need advice...I am going in for my third fill in 6 weeks. I was told I have 3.5ccs in my band. I hope I do. 2 weeks ago the NP stuck me several times before she changed the needle. I was numb so I did not feel the multiple sticks. When she remove the needle and syringe there was blood in the saline. This has only started to concern me since I am going back tomorrow morning. Is it normal to see blood in the syringe? I do not know if she is filling the band . I have absolutely no restriction whatsoever. If she is sticking the soft spot on the port, why is there blood in the syringe? What should I do?

July 2009 Mile Challenge
Congrats MrsNeener! I would love to continue the challenge for next month. This has been the only thing that has kept me exercising. I would have stopped early in the month, but I knew there would be a lot of you who remained faithful to the challenge. I would have been so mad at myself for giving up. Now I feel good about myself for staying the course. I pray that we get more banders to sign up for the August 2009 Mile Challenge. Thanks for coming aboard.

Thinking about getting 1/4 cc removed - should I wait?
Thanks Auggies. I hope this fill works out for you. Please let me know in 2-3 days how things are going for you? I am going for my fill on 7/28/09.

Thinking about getting 1/4 cc removed - should I wait?
Cookie and Auggies how many ccs do each of you have in your bands? I am going for my 3rd fill and I was going to ask for 1-2 ccs. I am getting worried that I may ask for too much. I went in 2 weeks ago and the NP only gave me .5 ccs for a total of 3.5 ccs. I have no restriction at all. I know everyone is different, but maybe you all can give me an idea of what is too much for you.

was your tummy swollen afterwards?
My tummy was swollen for 4-5 weeks post op. Clothes that would fit around my tummy pre surgery did not fit for weeks after surgery although I was losing weight. I finally noticed that the swelling has gone down.

Looking for a partner in crime ;)
Hi Snowboots. I would like to partner with you on this weight loss journey. I am getting fills but have not reached the sweet spot that I read about on this forum. Today I weighed myself and the scale went up a pound. I am not weighing and measuring my food right now to my own detriment. I was ok with not losing weight, but I am not ok with gaining weight. My next fill is 7/28/09. I hope that one helps. When would you like to get started? Looking forward to hearing from you.

July 2009 Mile Challenge
Way to go JuJuVee! What an awesome way to finish. I was trying to pace myself to get to 50 miles. I never thought for once to exceed the goal. You have given me something to work toward. Let's put our heads together for our next challenge.

MAY 2009 Banders!
Hi. I'm glad I am not alone. I lost 11 pounds 2 weeks post op and have not lost anymore. I've had 2 fills. I have 3.5ccs in my band. Honestly, I'm ok with the slow loss. I am a teacher and I do not want most people to know I had WLS. If I go back to work with obvious weight loss, everyone will suspect that I had surgery. I have a long term goal set. I would like at least 20lbs lost by Thanksgiving. That is a reachable goal. Once I return to work it will be easier to stick to my eating plan. As of now I can eat anything. Nothing gets stuck.

what is the port attached to?
Hi Savannahsmommie. Did your insurance cover the port revision or did you pay out of pocket?

July 2009 Mile Challenge
Wow! Thanks Willow. You are right about this post helping us to stay focused. There are days I too do not feel like exercising but then I know that I must be accountable to this challenge. Your comment also will keep me motivated to complete the rest of the month. You are doing a wonderful thing for yourself. Keep up the great work!

First Fill experience
The numbing shot does sting, but it helps to have it in the event you are stuck more than once. I would not be able to endure being stuck multiple times because of my fear. Days after my fill I am so sore around my port and even swollen. I know that is due to being stuck so many times during a fill. I always come out crying not from pain, but knowing a needle is being stuck into my belly.

First Fill experience
MGZ ask your doctor to numb you before he gives you a fill. I am afraid of needles and it helps to be numb. My NP stuck me numerous times before she found the soft spot on the port. I had no idea I was being stuck. I know only because my husband was there holding my hand and he asked if I felt each time she stuck me. Thankfully I did not feel it. The NP told me she had to try many times because I have a lot of scar tissue that the needle could not penetrate. She even had to change needles. I hope your port did not flip. My NP also uses an xray to make sure the port is in the correct position. Your doctor will be able to tell right away once he uses the xray. Come back and post your update. I wish you well. Do not forget to ask to get a numbing shot.

protein shots????
I have the 42 gram vials in grape. I can sip it over the course of the day right from the vial or if I want to thin it out I mix the protein with G2 Gatorade. A 32oz bottle has a total of 100 calories. The vial of protein has 180 calories. I purchased mine from GNC.

I finally have restiction!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I went for a second fill on yesterday and the NP only gave me 0.5 cc for a total of 3.5ccs. I still do not have any restriction. I'm glad I can go back every 2 weeks. Maybe another half or a whole cc will get me there.

July 2009 Mile Challenge
Hi Neon. I'm sorry to hear about your injury. Shin splints are so painful. The only thing I know to tell you is to rest for a while. You can use ice and anti-flammatory meds. Good luck!

9 month bandiversary!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hello 2Fly. Congratulations! I really would like to know your secret. Do you weigh and measure your food? Do you exercise? Are you at restriction with your fills? How many fills do you have? I have already reached a plateau after only 6 weeks post op. I exercise, I do not eat as much although I do not have restriction. Any advice will be appreciated.

I am posting this as a TEST. I attempted to make a third ticker. Hope this time worked.
