  1. I was able to get an appointment today with my surgeon. I am so weak, possibly dehydrated. I get to have thicker liquids starting today. Hopefully that will help me feel better. I want to be excited about the weight loss, but I am too tired to really care right now.
  2. Hi Munger, welcome to the thread. How are you feeling? I think I should call my doctor. I woke up in a lot of pain on my left side. My port is on the right side. Taking a breath makes it worse. Maybe I slept on the wrong side. It has been one week today that I was banded. I have lost 7.5 pounds. I'm excited about that, but wished I felt better. Has anyone else experienced pain a week after surgery?
  3. Hey all! I went back to work today..big mistake..I teach and today was th elast day of school. I wanted to be there to wish my students a happy summer. I was doubled over in pain by 11:00. I was hurting so badly I was shaking. Tomorrow will be one week post op. I am taking it very easy. I came home, took some pain meds and napped for a couple of hours. I no longer think its just gas pains. It could be pain from a hernia repair. I am not hungry, but I really want to chew something. I can't wait to get past this and feel normal and eat normal foods. I start the mushy stage on 6/11/09.
  4. Hi Zuly, Congratulations on your weight loss. You should be very happy with those results. My surgery was on 5/28/09. I only had to diet one day before surgery. I have been on clear liquids since 5/27/09. How are you feeling? Who is your doctor? What kind of mushies are you eating. My doctor had a patch put behind my ear for nausea. He also gave me a prescribtion for nausea as well. I can't wait until I can have mushies, but I do not want to fell bad or nausaeated.
  5. I am in the liquid stage. Is s/f hard candy allowed? I am 6 days post op.
  6. Hi Honesty, I have five incisions all on the upper abs. Gonna feel free to stay in touch. Believe me, if it had not been for this forum I would probably be depressed because there is no way for your doctor to give you as much one on one time answering your questions or concerns. I feel assured when I get advice here because everyone has had the same experience. There are so many people who have found success. Their stories keep me motivated and looking ahead to when I will be able to make things easier for someone else down this journey.
  7. Finally!!! It's day 6 post op and I finally feel good this morning. I notice during the night when I turned from side to side that I was not in pain. I am no longer as bloated and gassy either. I still think I am swollen. Can anyone tell me how long it takes for the swelling to go down? I have lost weight too. May 28th day of surgery I weighed 197.7. This morning the scales shows 192.0. I am so excited about this journey. My first fill is not until June 30th. I hope the weight continues to fall off.
  8. I am on day 5 after banding and I am still in a considerable amount of pain. I also want to eat although my tummy is bloated and swollen. I have been taking it one day at a time. I found a way to make the broth taste like real soup. My family had baked chicken for dinner. I took a couple of pieces and put it in a pot with the broth. I added garlic powder and let it simmer for 15 minutes on low heat. It tastes so good. I can last a few days before I get bored with that. By then I can move to thicker soups. I can get through the liquid phases. What I want most is for the pain and gas to go away.
  9. I have the same questions. Will we return to feeling normal? I would to fell bloated and stiff because I have a band around my tummy. Do you ever go back to feeling good prior to the band? I am 4 days post op. I know I should give it time, but when you do not know how long you will feel this way it makes the journey a little depressing. Any advice? Does most banders feel better 2-3 weeks down the road?
  10. Hi Christy...Thanks for the encouragment. I begin and end my days on this site...I know I would not be as strong without it. Today is day four post op. I had a bad night. I was hurting so badly. The pain was from gas and bloating and I guess from the repaired hernia. I was going to go to work tomorrow, but I am still walking doubled over a bit. I teach 9-10 year olds. When can I look forward to less pain and more energy?
  11. If it weren't for this forum, I would probably be a basket case. I am trying to be positive during this phase, but I am beginning to dislike chicken broth. I need some ideas on how to jazz it up so that I can get my protein in. Slim fast has always cuased me to bloated and to be gassy.
  12. I need some advice on what can be done to jazz up the liquid phase. I am 4 days in and I am so tired of chicken broth. How did you all manage to last 14 days?
  13. Hi Barbill..I am peeing a lot too. My surgery was on 5/28. I'm still sore. I havn't tried to walk yet except for moving around the house so that I will not stiffen up. My shoulder pain only lasted for one day. Now I just have soreness and bloating. Have you lost any weight?
  14. I got through the 2nd night post op. If was a much easier night. I had Sleepytime Tea and prescribed pain meds along with my heating pad right before bed. I slept most of the night. I needed more pain meds by 3:30 am. I was able to sleep on my left side last night. The gas is making its way through my body. I've lost less than 2 pounds in 2 days. I'm not discouraged by that. I know in a mtter of weeks I will see more results.
  15. I was also banded on 5/28/09. Doctor found and repaired a hernia. Could be the reason I had a lot of discomfort. Got advice from the forum to move around and take gas-x. It seemed to help. I got enough sleep last night..I'm a lttle weak today. I hope I feel better soon. Can't drink as much as I was told. I'm not hungry or thirsty. Will rest and hope to feeling good enough to go to work on Monday. Good luck to everyone. I hope you are doing well. I'm hear to compare notes if needed.
  16. Hi svelt2009. I did have hernia repaired. That may explained the discomfort. I am tired today, but still trying to move around a little at a time. Can't drink as much as I was told. I do not want to get weak. I will return to work Monday. I teach and next week is the last week before school is out for the summer. I am scheduled to get the first fill on 6/16/09. Hoping for the sewlling to go down before Monday. I plan to relax and try and stay hydrated.
  17. Hi everyone, I followed the advice and started walking more around the house. My shoulder pain went away. I decided to make a cup of Celestial Seasoning Sleepytime Tea and took the prescribed pain meds along with the Gas-X. I am happy yo report I was able to get a decent amount of rest last nigt. I am ready to tackle day 2 post op.
  18. Wow! I was not aware you could gain with the band. Thanks for informing me. Did you go back and get a fill to lose again or you decided to eat right again? It is never too late to get healthy. I wish you well.
  19. Hi..glad you are back on track If you don't mind, I have a few questions for you. How were you able to gain weight with a band? How are you now able to lose so much? Is it all about the fills. I was just banded today.
  20. Thank you Jenny. I would love to stay in touch. I have a recliner in the bedroom. I thought that slepping in it would be a good idea. I'm glad it helped you. I will try it. If it is easier for you, I can be reached by email. ec4tutor@aol.com
  21. You all are so wonderful. I have tears in my eyes and it is not form the discomfort. The tears are because the people on this forum really stand by each other. Thank you for giving me advice and encouragement. I think I would be a basket case if it weren't for you all helping to calm me.
  22. Hello Banders, I was banded this morning and arrived home around 1:30 cst. Since then I have been very uncomfortable. I can sit and move around somewhat which minimizes the discomfort. I am concerned about getting a good night's rest. Did anyone have trouble sleeping? I am using a heating pad and am sipping on broth, cranberry juice and water. I also took the prescribed liquid pain med without much change. Please tell me I will feel better soon. I do not want to regret having this done.
  23. Hi Marathonmom, I am having my banding on 5/28/09 as well. My bmi is 35. I elected to have this surgery because I was gaining weight year after year. I think it is very proactive to do something about the weight before major medical complications arise. I currently have hpb and diabeties runs in my family. Congratulations on your decision to get banded. Hope to hear from you during this journey.
  24. Hi Marge, I am going back to work 4 days after my band surgery. I teach school and will only have to work 4 days before we are out for the summer. When I had my counsult with the Dr., most of his staff were banded and each said they were banded on Friday and went back to work on Monday. Your doctor may give you a week or two off to heal. Ask the doctor or his staff. I would have taken more time off but I have to be there because of end of the year procedures.
  25. Hi Cameron, I will also have my surgery on 5/28/09. I wish you well. 2911plans
