Starting My VSG Journey. Surgery Aug. 11
The last one is me. I can't tell you how much stress it has put on me. I dream that I arrive and I the scale is broken so it shows I have gained 20 lbs. I weight myself twice a day, every day. If I gain a half a pound I don't eat the next meal or I shake only until the half a pound is gone. It is no way to live but I have no choice. I can't tell you how many tears have been shed on my scale in the last 7 weeks. No pre surgery diet for me. I guess the ultrasound showed my liver was small.

August Sleevers
I have no blog so I doubt you have read it! No new technique for me. Wait what new technique? I will be in 3 nights as long as I pee enough, do enough laps around the station, breath like I am supposed to into the incentive thing, and I think I have to have a "movement".

NO appetite - help?
I would encourage anyone who is feeling depressed for more than a few weeks to see a Psychiatrist. I say a Psychiatrist because I believe people with special needs (this kind of life changing surgery) need to be monitored better than a PCP can do. Also if you need some medication a Psychiatrist knows much better what to prescribe than a PCP. I lived with major depression for years. It caused me to stay in an abusive relationship and make some very bad life decisions. Don't let yourself slip down that road. There is therapy and meds if needed. There is nothing wrong with taking something to get you over a rough patch! Better living through chemistry I say. Life is too short to be sad. Get help if you need it!

Full liquids - whats allowed?
Wow Penny you still have a drain? You said it hurt. It is not red and angry or anything is it? I had a drain in my neck after surgery to remove a salivary gland. It didn't hurt but I was on pain medication.

OTC Drugs which are ok for sleeve and which are NOT
There is seems to be a lot of opinions out there. My doctor said: No NSAIDS (ever, period, no discussion) No Birth Control Pills For the first 3 months all pills have to be crushed or you can't take them. He said to talk to pharmacy about what can be crushed and what can't be. If I need antibiotics a suspension needs to be taken. I should ask if there is a liquid version of all medications for life. Liquid is always preferable to pill form. Capsules that can be opened are next best. I should look for alcohol free syrups. I should avoid alcohol. Under no circumstances should I drink on a daily basis (I don't even drink so I don't care about it) I think my doctor is Dr. Strict.

Update us on what the dietician said! As long as you are sticking with the plan I really think you will be fine. Don't cheat. Be sure to visit the August support http://verticalsleevetalk.com/2009-sleevers/567-august-sleevers-3.html#post8993 I have to disagree with Mac (sorry Mac) I think your liver can shrink even if you don't lose much if any weight. I think our livers are not ony fatty but swollen from all the hard work they have to do in a larger than designed body. If you are eating less calories there is less carbs for your liver to deal with.

Caffeine Withdrawal
Congrats on quitting smoking. I quit almost a year ago. Should have done it sooner. I weaned off caffeine and am mostly caffeine free now. I actually feel better! My blood pressure is down too.

What's on your mind?
What is on my mind: Why on earth would a campground have sprinklers? I have never heard of this. Don't they think people MIGHT be sleeping and stuff MIGHT get wet? This is just plain bizzare. I am jealous someone got a new iPhone. I am with Verizon, no iPhone for me. I let people think my touch is an iPhone though.

Do you have to lose a certain amount of weight for your surgery to take place? I bet your pre-op diet is to shrink your liver in which case as long as you stick to the diet plan I would not worry about weight loss right now.
