And now....
Well I'm in the same situation I have a 4 yr old and a 1yr old and I'm a stay at home mom, And I was informed that I have to pay $4,000 which of course we don't have. But I do have several low interest cc without balances that I told my husband if I have to put it on a card then I will. We don't believe in having cc debt but I feel that I do alot for my family and I deserve to give myself a chance to live a healthy life. So my husband owns a fairly new motorcycle that he bought cash 2 yrs ago so he decided to sell it for $4,000 to pay for my surgery. We live on a very small budget and this is the only solution.

Phentermine????
I'm currently on Phentermine for 1 month but I haven't had surgery yet. I was required 4 visits with health promotion center before getting my refferal for the surgeon and the doctor put me on phentermine for a month so I could lose as much weight as possible. I didn't think about it at the time but by the end of this month I'll go to the surgeon and I was wondering how long would I have to be off it before surgery?? I don't want to delay the process. Thanks :ihih:

Why "Chew To Liquid" is Absurd
Actually the nutritionist I saw for my pre op diet gave me a paper that said Goals prior to gastric surgery and on the paper one of the behavioral goals was "learn to eat chewing very well making every bite of food into a liquid before swallowing." And when I read that I thought that it would be very difficult to do and pretty gross.

Whats the best price for self pay in California?
Well I was quoted a price at weightloss surgery centers of 16,000. But that was for the surgery and all the fills until you reach your goal weight.

need to shrink liver.....help
With my kids I don't buy any junk food I go by the rules of julian if it don't come from a plant or have a momma then don't buy it. We eat pretty healthy but my problem is portion control. We don't eat any processed foods and for my kids I watch out for high frutose corn syrup so I found that if I don't have chips, cookies, ice cream, etc in the house my kids make smarter choices like fruit, raw veggies for snack and such. When they want a ice cream I just take them to go get a scoop at rite aid. And we only go out to eat about twice a month. But my kids don't have a weight problem and ever since we started eating this way my husband lost over 50 #'s.

I know that with the band 3oz of meat and 2 servings of veggies is probably a lot of food but for me I'm starving.

need to shrink liver.....help
Hello, I just start my modified liquid diet last thursday so today will be a week. They told me I had to lose at least 15#'s by June 4 to shrink my liver but they said this is the only diet I will be on till my surgery. I drink 4 shakes a day and 1 very tiny meal which consist of 3 oz of meat and 2 servings of veggies. Oh I can also have 2 fruit servings during the day. It is very hard especially when I'm making my kids grilled cheese sandwiches for lunch. But I am right there with you.

Are they for us or not! (I have BCBS of North Carolina)
I went to a consultation at a surgeon's office and they told me that because I had a HMO that they would not even cover the lap band. So I was upset but I decided to call my insurance co. and have them look up my policy and they told me that they will cover it as long as my PCP says it's a medical necessity. They don't require any classes or weight loss beforehand. So my PCP gave me a referral and it was approved in 2 days. So if I where you I would call my insurance before talking to anyone else and ask if it is covered and what is recommended that you do before you can have the surgery.

Have a question

Have a question
I saw the nutrionist today (I haven't been banded yet) but she told me that I need to start with my pre-surgery diet now because I need to lose 10 percent of my body weight before surgery. Well I understand that and their giving me a month to do it. But she put me on optifast plan where I drink 4 shakes a day and one small meal for a total of 1000 - 1100 calories a day is it possible to lose 15 pounds in a month eating that many calories? ( I already lost 8 pounds and that took 3 months).

Hello everyone
I just got my refferal for my pre-bariatric surgery counseling. I don't know how long the process will take but I can't wait. I have a excited about the lap-band, but my husband seems kind of embarrased about it. Because when I asked him not to tell anyone yet he said that he didn't plan on telling anyone, he said if anyone asked how I lost weight that he'll tell them I did it on my own. I have done weight watchers for a while and I lost 65 pounds but then I gained it back. I'm so tried of yo-yo dieting I need something more. I am so hopeful when I read your postings and see your before and afters. This is a great site and hopefully soon I'll be a after.
