Requirements to be a VET
Isn't this the website assistance and suggestions thread?

Requirements to be a VET
So according to the VET forum you can only post if you are 18 months post surgery. However when you are 9 years post surgery but awaiting a revision you can't post. This seems silly. Yes I'm a novice when it comes to RNY but I still have plenty of other useful advice . Maybe someone needs to look at changing this

After my surgery I'm looking forward to...............
Those are good goals. According to my kids I have no butt - I'm an apple which I hate. Apparently having a flat ass is not a good thing, some celebs pay lots of money to get theirs made bigger

"Other " support sites
Apparently I'm the perfect example of why people shouldn't drink! I'd better get dressed and go and find my local AA now! the most ironic thing is the user that posted this has herself had a revision!

"Other " support sites
This is a rant and a rave. Firstly I would like to say that I have always found the people here to be in the most part helpful and supportive. The same cannot be said for all other sites. Some of the sanctimonious BS from some peeps is unreal. Example Wow reading this thread is depressing. So many people saying never to drink alcohol again. Absolutes ( never )are very hard to accept. I got my band 9 years ago and was never told I had to give up alcohol. I enjoy a glass or 2 of wine a couple of times a week. Maybe I'm lucky I didn't become an alcoholic! Now looking at revising to RNY so I understand that I am going to have to give that up, at least for the foreseeable future but I would hate to think that I could NEVER have a glass of wine again. alcohol is pure sugar. The body uses that pure sugar to function instead of burning your stored fat for energy. Maybe ifvyou had not used alcohol you would be at goal weight and not looking for a revision. You are a perfect example of the truth of what those who are saying about alcohol use are saying. Alcoholics and drug abusers in recovery use the never absolute every day. They have to, no other choice. Not using absolutes, like never is often just an excuse.

Surgery is always scary, I know I'm always terrified. But I'm sure it will all go well and soon you will be looking back from the other side

Dr Vuong seminars, who has been, what are they about?
Thanks Alex. I had a feeling he may be a "failed" bariatric surgeon. I have a feeling that my friend may be wasting her money but I know that when your original procedure has not lived up to its promise that we tend to clutch at straws. Maybe she will get something helpful out of it.

Sounds like you are doing well

I Hate Food Sometimes!
That doesnt sound good? Was it a particular food that caused the issue? I know a lot of chinese food is full of sugar. Maybe something like Thai or Vietnamese would be easier to tolerate. They seem to be lighter and fresher.

Rny vs sleeve
Whichever surgery you choose the key to success is EDUCATION. Those that research beforehand and know what to expect seem to be a lot more successful than those who don't. Read the forums, read your surgeons info, follow the instructions that you are given and remember that ultimately WLS is only a tool, it cannot work without someone operating it

Rny vs sleeve
I think it is hard for anyone to give an objective answer on this because most people haven't had both. Those who have will have been revising from another surgery so that will skew their opinion as well. Some things to consider. Sleeve Is a restrictive only procedure, apparently there is a quite high risk of reflux,it cannot be reversed but it is possible to revise to a DS bypass. Bypass Is restrictive and malabsorptive, risk of reflux seems to be very low, certain foods e.g alcohol and sugar may cause dumping. It can be reversed if necessary but this is complicated.

Dr Vuong seminars, who has been, what are they about?
I have a friend who is banded like me and like me she is also struggling with weight gain / inadequate loss and what to do. She has booked to attend a seminar, in Melbourne Australia, with Dr Vuong. Wondering what they are about and what the goal is. Does this Dr promote a certain type of surgery, does he have answers that other Drs don’t? Why is he travelling the world like a rockstar, is he drumming up business for some surgical group?

Is losing 50% of excess weight the standard?
What qualifies a person as a Vet? Can I claim that hat? I think there are so few because after the first couple of years we get less obsessed with weight loss and just go back to “ normal “ life. We don’t need the constant support and feel we should just be getting on with things. We come back when something has gone wrong and we are staring down the barrel of a revision. At that point we feel like we have a lot of experience but we are also confused and apprehensive and a little bit scared. Can we do it again and be successful. Will we survive that bl@@dy awful preop diet for a second time etc I know what worked for me the first time was education education education.

Is losing 50% of excess weight the standard?
Doctors always talk in averages because they cannot accurately predict who will be successful and who won't. With WlS in general there are some people that lose nothing because they don't follow the plan and they self sabotage by eating high cal sliders. Then there are people that lose all their excess weight and more. The way to ensure that you are the second type is by having the right mindset, remembering that surgery is a tool not a magic wand and putting in your very best effort.

Severe Acid reflux
Do you have a band or a sleeve? Reflux is often a side effect of both. Your Dr will probably put you in PPIs and hopefully that will solve it although this can be an ongoing issue
