  1. That is funny and yes it does make me feel good. It sounds as though all you need to look fab is some great airbrushing.
  2. Yes it sounds as though you are too tight and a small unfill should help. I wouldn't want to wait two weeks with this level of discomfort. Try phoning your Dr and see if he will bring your app forward. They are normally more accomodating at fitting people in for unfills than they are for fills.
  3. I can drink a glass of Water normally. According to my NUT drinking between meals helps to keep you full but you will only feel this benefit if you drink a reasonable quantity in 1 go. Sipping constantly between meals does not have the same effect. If you cannot drink a glass of water in a couple of minutes without a problem then I would suspect that you are actually too tight.
  4. It probably has nothing to do with your exband. The most likely explanation is that you have pulled or strained a muscle.Have you been exercising or lifting heavy stuff or turned awkwardly? If the pain persists go and see your Dr.
  5. I have tried journalling a couple of times but I find it takes so long and starts turning into an obsession. Plus I don't weigh or measure my food so when it asks for a portion size I guess.I don't want to spend even more time weighing and measuring as well. I can see the benefits but it also has it downside. I got scared when I saw the fat content of some "healthy" foods. I also find it annoying if the site doesn't have all the brands. In the US I think you have a better choice of sites - the best one here in Aus seems to be calorie king. It also doesn't work trying to use a US site unless you live there as the foods are so different! So yes I think it can help but it also takes a huge chunk of time and lots of dedication. The other reason I don't use one permanently is I am trying to eat like a skinny person. That is to eat what I want when i want it and not obsess over it. To try and listen to what my body really wants. It sounds easy but after all these years of dieting and being told what to eat its actually really hard.
  6. It is quite common to eat when doing certain things. We snack when we eat TV, we have a cookie when we drink a cup of tea etc. That is why most diets advise changing what you do as well. If you really want to watch that show but not snack take up something that keeps your hands busy so that you can't snack e.g knitting.
  7. Loving your comments Bob. I suppose a lot of this debate depends on whether you think of God as a loving and forgiving being or a vengeful and wrathful one. I don't actually believe in God at all but if I did I would prefer to think that he was loving and forgiving. Surely he should help people see the error of their ways in a constructive manner not one that punishes. And if he really is up there I am sure he has far more pressing matters to deal with than small scale fraud. I would have thought World Peace, Poverty, Disease etc were of far greater importance. Unless of course those are too difficult to deal with which would then explain concentrating on the small issues!
  8. Yes for some reason things that go down well at home can cause problems out. If I'm out for lunch with a friend I try to stick to some kind of Pasta or fritatta as those don't seem to give me problems. I went out a couple of months ago with my husband and son. Ordered lamb shank and had to get to the bathroom to PB. It was super soft and is something I can normally eat OK at home. The only thing that seems to make any sense is that I was drinking wine beforehand and maybe I didn't leave enough time before drinking and eating. I always used to think that the not drinking for 30 min before eating rule didn't make any sense but it seems that it can affect what and how much you can eat. When I saw my dietician 2 weeks ago he said that it is often a cause of problems when people are out. They can't understand why they can't eat as much or the same as they can at home but it is often because they have been filling up with some kind of drink at the restaurant whilst waiting for their food. Sometimes eating with other people can be a lot easier than expected. At Easter i went away with a group of friends that don't know about my band and I had no problems. That was a major relief.
  9. Good to see someone who fully understands the process and is ready to take responsibility. With an attitude like this you will be successful. It's been a year now and I still haven't turned into Catherine Zeta Jones.LOL Any suggestions?
  10. I am sure that the sleeve is a great option. But I don't think it is very helpful to the OP who has her lapband surgery booked in a weeks time to be told this now. I don't think her question is to whether she has chosen the right surgery but as to whether or not having surgery at all is the right thing to do. gelly it is perfectly normal to be having doubts at this stage. I think 99.9% of us felt the same. It is a big step, you are having elective surgery, you wonder what is wrong with you that you can't lose and keep weight off on your own etc. So long as you researched the various types of WLS and are confident in your surgeon then I am sure that the decision that you have already made is the right one. Read the thread I started recently under complications. http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f78/complications-1-year-out-114752/ Hopefully it will encourage you and make you feel a bit more confident. Yes it is possible to have problems with a Lapband but the same is true for all the other types of WLS including the sleeve. There is no perfect surgery and there is no one size fits all solution. Don't let people try to confuse you now.
  11. Vomiting is one of the major causes of slippage. It is recommended that if you get any kind of illness that causes vomiting you contact your Dr immediately so that you can be prescribed a strong antiemetic. Sorry to hear what you have gone through. It's a pity that your Dr wasn't able to fix your band immediately. Have you thought about beng rebanded in the future or possibly revising to another type of WLS such as the sleeve?
  12. Yes I have taken measurements as well. When it feels like the scale isn't moving it makes a huge difference as you can see that your body is changing.
  13. I don't see this as a problem. If you get to the stage where the band is causing problems when you eat then have it unfilled. Your family will notice that you are having problems eating even if you can't remember the cause.I assume you will be telling them about the band? At least by having the band in the first place you have a far better chance of surviving long enough to possibly get dementia.
  14. Maybe you are allergic to the pain meds, or it could be something in a protein shake. Have you changed your soap, washing powder or anything like that recently? Sometimes it's not possible to pinpoint the cause. I have had some scary looking rashes before and my Dr did not manage to identify what was causing it.(Preband so I know it wasn't band related)
  15. That definitetly isn't what happens in my case. I am usually asleep, dreaming happilly and my dream will start to feature toilets! But there is always something wrong with the toilet in my dream(blocked, dirty, queue etc) which is my signal that I actually need to wake myself up and go! Heaven forbid I ever dream about a perfect toilet one day.
  16. So long as you use the same scale every time you weigh it doesn't matter if it is 100% accurate or not.It will still measure your losses. Make sure you weigh at the same time and in the same state of dress or undress.
  17. Thats an interesting perspective. I have never ever been told previously that my over active bladder could be from sleep apnea.
  18. It sounds as though you are too tight. You need to go back and see your dr before any permanent damage is done.
  19. Glad to be able to put your mind to rest. There certainly seems to be lots of misinformation regarding the band out there!
  20. I heard that recovery time with SILS can be longer as they have to move things around more due to the fact that there is only 1 incision.
  21. no you don't need to have anything done before you fly. Some people apparently experience extra tightness but this should resolve when you land. You are more likely to experience problems if you are newly banded as then their is air and not saline in the band. The air can expand - saline doesn't. I flew from Australia to South Africa and back in Dec. 3 flights - 24 hrs each way. No problems. LOL I even managed to eat the plane food.
  22. It's great that your success has inspired someone else.
  23. I should correct my post above. An hour or longer after eating to drink. 3 - 4 hours between meals. When I reread what I posted it reads as though I think 3 - 4 hours without a drink is OK!
  24. You should wait at least an hour - longer if possible.I think between 3 - 4 hours is achievable , longer than this is hard although some seem to manage it. Have a planned healthy snack mid afternoon. And if you are feeling hungry sooner than you should have a drink. it helps to fill you up even though it is only temporary.
  25. I have just read an article in "Woman's Own" 8 March 2010 ( an English magazine). In it Sharon confirms that she still has her lap -band but says that it is completely empty. This makes sense. Why remove it if it's not causing any problems.Far better to have it there ready to use again when/if you need it.
