  1. I love my band. Jumped on the scales this morning and they still show 51.7kg. If I consider how much junk I have eaten over the last couple of weeks that is incredible. It obviously isn't as much junk as in previous years - I didn't eat any stollen, Christmas cake, only a couple of mince pies. a few pieces of shortbread etc - but it was enough that I was happy and didn't feel deprived. It makes me wonder how much more weight I could lose if I had the inclination. Unfortunately i seem to have hit a comfortable spot and am too lazy to get off my backside to do anything more at the moment. I am still amazed at how much food they serve in restaurants. My hubby was craving pizza yesterday so we went to an italian "fast food" restaurant. No way was I going to eat pizza so I ordered a starter size fettucine with chicken, bacon and capsicums. The serve they brought me was huge - I think i managed 1/3 and I was stuffed. Would hate to have seen the full size version. It's ridiculous really - no wonder so many people have a weight problem as we no longer no what a normal sized portion looks like. Plus think of all the food that goes to waste. It would be better to serve less and charge less. Nice to see all the new people joining us.Welcome.
  2. Are you sure there are no food holidays? Haven't you missed Easter? I went into the supermarket to buy a newspaper yesterday and they had Easter eggs out. I bet if I had ventured as far as the bakery it would have been full of Hot Cross Buns.

I love it, it looks great. I've just started quilting so am a complete novice. Just got back from buying some cheap fabric at one of our craft shops. I can't wait to finish a proper quilt.
  4. Happy New Year everyone, hope its everything you want it to be. Peaceful, prosperous, healthy and slim! I have had a horrible head/neck ache for the last couple of days - do you think it's my band? LOL only kidding - it just seems though that once banded some people blame every ache or pain or problem on it. I think it's a tension headache but I'm not sure why.Maybe its a s result of having both kids and the hubby home so my routine has been changed! Lack of sleep from having a chainsaw in bed with me and a cat that keeps trying to break into my room at night probably doesn't help much either. Leigha I know what you mean about eating crap. I also need a clearout. There is till far too much chocolate, cake, cream etc in this house and yes I have been eating it. I am still under 52kg so it's not too bad yet but if I don't stop it will be. Got to get myself back in check. Your new puppy looks adorable and the foods you have been making look amazing. Personally I'm not a fan of hunting but I am impressed with your use of the beast! Weather here has warmed up at last. NYE was 40deg C. Yesterday was cooler but still pleasant. Some parts of Australia have had the most horrific flooding. I don't know if it has made the news there but it is awful, whole communities have had to be evacuated, hundreds of houses are under Water. Nature can be very cruel. I am considering whether I need to go back to the Dr for an adjustment. I am getting hungry sooner and am able to eat more and quicker. But I don't want to end up too tight . Maybe I should go along anyway just for a checkup and see what he says.I need to be careful as we are going away with friends at the end of Jan and I don't want to have any issues then. Looking forward to hearing everyone elses news.
  5. I saw Mummy Kissing Santa Claus All I want for Christmas I wish it could be Christmas Every day............. In fact any of the more modern, upbeat ones are just fine. Oh and of course there is a great ozzie song by Rolf Harris called 12 White Boomers.
  6. Hi everyone. Hope you have all had a wonderful Christmas. Ours has been good. Christmas day was just me , hubby and the 2 kids but it was nice spending time together. We did have one problem which could have beeen disastrous but turned out OK. Turkey was cooking in the Webber and I put the ham in the oven. About 30 min later I opened the oven to put the vegies in and realised it wasn't hot. Yes it was turned on. It seems that the fan is working and so is the grill element but the back element that it uses for baking/roasting etc wasn't. Luckily my microwave is also a convection oven so I was able to do the ham in that. Vegies were parboiled and then distributed between the Webber and the microwave for finishing off. Today we went to a friends for her family Christmas. There were a couple of tense moments - it can be interesting watching how other families interact. There was one point where I had to bite my tongue very hard and not cause a scene. This friend doesn't know I have a band. Before I got banded we all went away for a girls weekend and her one sister was going on about bands and how ridiculous they are and how if you want to lose weight you just need to eat less etc. You know the story. Quite funny really as this person cannot give up smoking. She has a 3 week old baby that she is breastfeeding, a horrific cough and still kept going outside to smoke today. Any way we were sitting chatting today and I asked about another of my friends family members and her new boyfriend. My friend(not the smoking sister) then basically implied that he was a loser because he is really old, has grown up children and is going into hospital to get a lapband! The girl that is going out with him does not have a wonderful trackrecord with men. She is in her 20s, recently divorced with 3 young boys so he does sound a bit old for her etc. In fact she may only be seeing him because he has money and keeps buying her things but to imply that he is a loser because he needs a band was a bit much. Why is he a loser because he is doing something positive for his health? I should have had the guts to speak out but I really didn't want to rock the boat at another persons family event. Anyway I think it's time for bed. Not looking forward to it as I was the designated driver tonight so my hubby could drink. Problem is he really takes advantage of the fact and cannot say no when other people keep pushing drinks on him. That means his snoring tonight will be even worse than usual........................... Hopefully by morning his mood will also have improved because he is not what you would call a happy drunk! That was probably way too much information but sometimes it helps to vent.
  7. I believe this is relatively common though I am lucky enough not to have this problem(yet). Scrambled egg can be a really difficult food to eat. I would avoid those at your tight times and maybe try sticking to Soups, yogurts and other nutritious sliders. Not ice cream and milkshakes. If it is only for a couple of days each month then you may be able to get through it.It sounds as though you are trying foods which can be difficult and these may be irritating your band more and making the problem worse. Hopefully babying your band at these times will help.
  8. I am really sorry to hear about that. What happened was pretty bad luck. Research your options carefully. Each surgery has its pros and cons. You will find people that think the surgery they had is the WLS that is better than all others. If it was me I would look at the sleeve or rebanding. I would probably lean towards rebanding particularly if it was successful the first time. What happened to you is not something that should recur but there is always the chance of slippage with a band. I think the sleeve is also a pretty good option and it has less aftercare. To me bypass is way too drastic. Whatever you decide I wish you all the best with it.
  9. Love it! I am still here - I have had an extremely busy 10 days or so but I am still reading everyones news. The part about feet and toilets made me giggle. I think that walls that go all the way down would have been a good idea in my youth when I had possibly imbibed too much and got too friendly with the floor as well! Bob hope the recovery is still going well. Leigha congrats on everything and enjoy the new puppy. Everyone else keep up the good work. Today is my last day of work for this year so I may have time to post properley at some stage.
  10. You really have been dealt a crap hand haven't you. I'm not going to pray for you because in my opinion that wouldn't help - but I will send positive thoughts your way and hope that you find the strength to get through this and that you make a full recovery. All the best.
  11. I was also offered a balloon as I had a lower BMI. I couldn't see the point as I believe the chance of regaining again once it is taken out is pretty high. My surgeon agreed with me. I hope that you have success with this .
  12. I'm sure I saw fluffy on either the sleeve or plication board and I think she was having a revision in the near future.Seems a little premature if she was in fact only banded in Oct. I could be wrong , it may be a dufferent fluffy.
  13. A small amount does dissappear over time. If you remember school biology when you learnt about plants and Water - it passes through the semipermeable membrane by a process called osmosis. I think something similar happens with the band. Normally it is ver small amounts and nothing to worry about. The other possibility is that the Dr did not withdraw everything. Generall there is some Fluid that stays behind that they do not draw out or it causes problems. This could be where the difference lies.

Instead of arguing over the guilt or innocence of Julian Assange how about we discuss Gabe Watson. Did he muder his wife, was it premeditated. What should his punishment be? What are your thoughts on the fact that the Australian govt. refused to extradite him to the US before first getting a guarantee that he would not get the death penalty?
  15. elcee replied to loserbob's topic in Rants & Raves
I can no more prove my point of view than you can yours. You might wonder though why if he is guilty of espionage or some similar charge he was not arrested on that charge and why it was not done months ago. I find it strange that most of you arguing against this guy live in the US where you are proud of all the freedoms that you supposedly have. Yet what is happening in this instance is something that you would expect if you were under communist rule.
  16. elcee replied to loserbob's topic in Rants & Raves
He hasn't actually broken any laws. They are desperately trying to find one to charge him on. The so called charges that they have arrested him for are false, manufactured and a load of crap. People should be more scared about the fact that if they want to arrest you for doing something that is not illegal then they will create a false charge on which to get you.
  17. Welcome to the thread new people. I think I would be on wine & chocolate if my child was off to Kuwait too. Pamper yourself for a few days and then get back on the straight and narrow. Yes I now have email notifications back with a vengeance. It seems with this new format you either get one for every post on the thread or none (delayed doesn't seem to work). Previously I would get 1 or 2 per thread until i visited it again! Still can't see what a thread is about without clicking into it or see a page with only new threads on. Looks like I will save lots of time though as I don't think I will bother trawling the site for new stuff unless I'm really bored - I will just try to check on on this thread frequently. I know how you feel with the glasses. i have ale=ways had the best eyesight up until about 2 years ago. then I needed longer arms or had to use readers for closeup stuff. I know have prescription reading glasses and am using them more and more. If they are not on my face they are on top of my head(bad I know but multifocals cost too much). It is a pain taking them on and off all day long. Now even with them I struggle to thread my sewing machine or read the nutritional info on food. i swear they keep making the print smaller. i so hate getting old!
  18. Thanks Bob, I know I'm an old fart but I'm not opposed to change if it is for the better. In this instance it doesn't appear to be. I managed to get a few email notifications and now they seem to have stopped again. I got none for any of the posts made after my last one on this thread. Glad everyones husband issue are in the process of being resolved. Mine drives me nuts sometimes but on the whole he's pretty amazing. I mean he does do all the gardening, washes dishes every night, hangs up washing , cooks sometimes and even tries his hand out at the odd repair. I'd better not complain too much. Leigha I love your hair. Dark is so much more practical than blonde. You can dye it yourself at home for far less than the blonde costs to upkeep at the salon. I went dark for winter and am enjoying it so much that I haven't gone back to blonde . Stacie I am sure the fact the you find out on your bandiversary is a positive omen. I will keep my fingers crossed for you. Leigha I think you did the right thing. I tend to verge on the edge of being a nosy neighbour. Example one day last week i could see some dog chasing my neighbours sheep so i had to track down her no to let her know. I was then worried in case it was my other neighbours dog(it was) that i then rushed over to let him know too. Bob as soon as the welling goes down we need to see new pics. I am sure that you must be looking and feeling amazing. I worked today (I'm casual). Had to teach a bunch of feral(wild as in feral animal) teenagers. I have so much sympathy for full time teachers. Kids are so out of control these days and they are not allowed to discipline them effectively. There were only 8 students but they felt like 50. I was totally knackered when I got home. My son is away on a school trip to the Gold Coast, they are visitig all the theme parks . My daughter comes home from uni to live(and look for a real job) at the weekend. That's about it on the home front. Other than the fact we are still a having major rain and floods. So many of my trees and plants are dying and I am sure that it is from too much Water. It is so frustrating. Going to keep my fingers crossed that I get email responses back again. If not I may just give up as it's all too hard. Facebook is so much easier.
  19. Since when was Bob being rude? I have just read his post and cannot see it. 15lb in 3 weeks is amazing. I cannot see how anyone could be anything other than ecstatic over that kind of result.
  20. Yay - I found the thread again! Will have to read the latest news later when I get home from work . I am so not liking the changes to this website. It is a PITA to find your way around, slow etc. On the plus side it may have cured me to my addiction and I may now find time to do other things instead of spending hours here.
  21. I am with Cheri. If you're are not going to get fills then why bother getting the band? The fills are an important part of the process. The band is designed to work with fills. Yes a few lucky people manage to lose without them but they are the exception rather than the rule. Yes fills are an automatic part of the process. Yes fills are designed to help with hunger. If you are so convinced that you can do this without fills then do it. Just diet and exercise - don't bother getting a band. The way your post comes across it makes it sound as though people that need fills are in some way inadequate, You seem to be judging. Generally fills are recommended if :- you get hungry sooner than 2-3 hours after eating what you should be eating. If you are not loosing weight. Yes there is a risk of getting overfilled but when that happens you generally know it and end up going back for an unfill - being too tight is miserable..
  22. It seems you are still missing the point. Up until this latest upgrade I had a link(Alex gave it to me ) that took me to a page where I could see new threads. I loved that - it was easy to see if there was anything new and interesting going on. Without that i have to wade through pages and pages to see if anything catches my interest which to be honest is more of a PITA than its worth. Will Alex restore this functionality that I had previously or not?
  23. Just tried this. No green sheet of paper.
  24. View new content does not show new threads. It shows threads that have new posts - there is a big difference.
  25. Amazing - some of us have been here for ages and we didn't know about this.I didn't realise that people could score me nor that I could score them. Something else to stress about. On the positive side we can find axel or whatever his name is these days and give him lots of bad marks!
