Sciatic Nerve/back Pain After Losing Weight
My mother has had sciatica for years and nothing she has tried has cured it. The TENS machine helps a bit , so does the magnet that she wears on her clothes but I don't think she is ever completely pain free. If someone does know of a solution that works other than surgery please let us know.

My Surgeon Has Turned Over His Patient Care!! I'm Livid!
I know you are mad and upset but calm down a little and think about it. To me it makes perfect sense. Everybody should do what they are best at. Your surgeons area of expertise is surgery, his/her valuable time is best spent doing that. The Dr on the other hand is better trained at patient care, follow up etc. the modern work model actually revolves around teams. A group of people utilising their best skills to produce the desired outcome. So long as the Dr has been properly trained and so long as you have access to the surgeon should a problem occur then I think this is a solution that could work really well. In fact I think more Drs should adopt this model. It would be so much easier( and cheaper) if I could go to my GP when I needed a fill. It would also be good to know that the GP understood about the band and how it worked instead of me having to explain things all the time. There are very few types of surgery where you continue to see the surgeon after you have healed from surgery. Once the initial postop healing period is over you are normally encouraged to see your GP. e.g I had a hysterectomy last year - I don't get to go back to the gynae unless there is a major problem. My first port of call is my GP and if it is an issue that she can't solve then I will be referred back to the specialist.

Popcorn And Nuts
You can eat them but you need to be careful. I would consider both of these to be slider foods i.e foods that go down easily which the band does not limit you from eating. Whilst nuts are good for you they are still high in fat and calories so should only be consumed in small quantities. Alcohol can be consumed but again it is full of empty calories. You may find that it affects you quicker as well as you won't have as much food in your stomach to help slow down its affects. My practice encourages a glass of wine over other types of alcohol as wine does supposedly have some health benefits.

So Discouraged
Maybe your band was just too tight. A small unfill may have made a huge difference. Where are you at now - are you completely unfilled or do you have some Fluid back in your band? You need to get back to your Dr ASAP. If you don't go back he can't help you. You haven't failed. All you have to do is go back to your Dr, start getting filled again and recommit to the healthy eating and exercise that helped you lose the 65lb

Band Slipped Doc Recommends Sleeve
If I remember correctly you are the same person that posted not that long ago about wanting to have an unfill before going on holiday so that you could eat more. I am wondering if you have had you band too tight for a while which may have caused the slip or if maybe you kept pushing the limits because your head and stomach were no longer in sync. And i may have also read in another thread that you throw up daily but again I'm not sure. You could get another band, you know it has worked for you previously but it seems as though you have some issues that you should be sorting out first. The sleeve is also a good option but you won't be able to take a holiday from that when you think you want to. That is permanent and once it is done there is no going back. This would be a tough decision to make at such short notice. I hope you manage to make the one that is right for you.

Confusing Web Site...
I have the same issue as Cocoabean. I have been complaining about it since I think the upgrade before last but it hasn't been fixed yet. It is really annoying especially when you get the email and click on the link in that and you have to go through from the beginning again. So Alex if you really are real please fix it.

Been Following A Super Strict Aktins Induction-Type Diet....too Much Perhaps?
I couldn't possible survive on that either. Why not add some healthy carbs e.g wholegrains, seeds, veg, fruit. Maybe have a couple of nuts. Some yogurt or other dairy. You need more and more variety.

Did Anyone Else Have To Follow Eating "schedule" Weeks 2 And 3?
No this is new to me. Although I have heard of diets where you are expected to eat a small piece of Protein every 15minutes. This supposedly increase your metabolism so that you burn fat quicker. Maybe this is what your Dr is trying to achieve. As to whether or not it is scientifically sound I have no idea. But if you can't do what your Dr is telling you to do then the person to query it with is him.

Pain After Eating 3 Days Post Fill
If you don't feel like you are stuck and you can still drink then it probably isn't a stuck or incorrect eating issue. Where exactly is the pain? Maybe the food was off and you have a slight does of food poisoning. Your DH may be less sensitive than you which is why he is not affected. It could be heartburn/reflux.It could be absolutely anything. If you give us more details then we may be able to offer other suggestions but If you are really concerned then the person you should be contacting is your Dr.

How Long To Wait Between Fills
All Dr's are different. Mine usually makes you wait 3 weeks to a month. Heck if I decided the fill wasn't working and tried to get in a week later I wouldn't be able to anyway as he is usually booked up so far in advance!

Gastric Banding And Dental Braces
That sounds pretty cheap. I may have to look at revising my healthcover again - who are you with? Yes it feels fabulous.

Gastric Banding And Dental Braces
I've never had braces but don't they only hurt when they get tightened? Would it be possible for you to do liquids/mush on those days and eat proper food the rest of the time? Interested in your ps. Was this done on medicare or did you go privately ?Just wondering as although 30kg is a lot of weight lost it's not normally sufficient for medicare to cover the op. I have only lost 24kg and if I want PS will have to go privately. I don't have a huge overhang but there is no way my stomach is going to improve without it. I got told today that I shouldn't lose any more weight (by my Dr)

Why Do I Sneeze When I Am Too Full?
Different people have different full signals. Some hiccup, some sneeze, some sigh.I believe it has something to do with pressure either on one of the nerves or possibly the diaphragm. Learning to recognise your signal so that you don't overeat can help save you a lot of discomfort.

So Frustrated...
Yes but who's house was it? If it was her MIL's fine but in your own home you should be able to get a little bit more respect and consideration. If that was my MIL i think I would have told her where to go.

Throwing Up... What Is Normal?
??????? Why? It is a well known fact that if you can't keep your meds down they won't work so the other alternative is a suppository. I have had voltaren suppositories previously postop and also had to give my kids meds this way when they were little and couldn't keep anything down.

Help, I'm Gaining Weight!!!
You should probably go for some blood tests. You may have some kind of endocrine imbalance that could be causing it.

Throwing Up... What Is Normal?
It could be a reaction from the anaesthetic. Call your Dr and see if he/she can prescribe you an antiemetic. At this stage food is not as important as liquids. You need to keep down sufficient so that you don't dehydrate.Sticking to clear liquids and Water may be the best option for now. The other possibility is that the Protein Shakes are causing the nausea. I found mine went when I was cleared to start eating Soups. I think my body was craving some real food instead of all that horrible sweet artificial stuff. Hope you feel better soon.

Big Week One Weight Loss - Is This Normal? And Other Questions
It depends on how heavy you are and how much you have to lose. If you are 60lb overweight then no it would not be normal. If you are 160 or 260lb overweight then it is probably not unheard of. A lot of that weight could be Water as well. You may find that your weight loss slows down or even stops for a couple of weeks whilst your body catches up. If it does don't panic. No it is not OK to zoom through the steps the way you have unless you have been given the go ahead by your Dr.. I have just explained in another thread the reason why following your Dr's instructions postop are so important. I don't understand why people go through this process, trust the Dr with their lives and then as soon as they are out of surgery decide that it is OK to ignore what he/she has told them.Doing what we wanted prior to surgery is what made us obese in the first place. If we carry on thinking we know better and doing what we want then we are likely to stay obese. So hard is it may be i think you need to ensure that you are doing what you have been told you should do. Nobody said it would be easy, it's not, but we have all been there and got through it so I am sure you can too. It is such a short length of time in the big scheme of things and as soon as you start getting fills it will get easier.
