There's a forum for all the April bandster's HERE - in case you'd like to share experiences with others of us being banded at around the same time. It's a wonderful place for support. 6. Hi Steph, Congrats on your surgery. There's a forum for all the April bandster's HERE . I know there's an AngieB2009 who is there sometimes (she is having surgery this coming Friday). 7. Congrats on your surgery. I'm not sure on how much food is normal at this point but as suggested by another poster, since you probably don't have Fluid in your band yet, the amount doesn't sound unreasonable. I think your body will let you know if you've had too much. By the way, You've been added to the list of April bandsters HERE. Also, there's a forum for all the April bandster's HERE - in case you'd like to share experiences with others of us being banded at around the same time.

  11. Hey Ann, Thanks for the reply. Lisa relapsed with gas again and had a very tough time of it which culminated in having to see the surgeon on Friday. He gave her a Maxolon shot and she was then able to keep fluids down overnight. The next day she was back to drinking nutritional fluids and she is back to normal today. Like you, I'm premenstrual and have not done so well on this pre-op diet the last couple of days. Oh well, back on the horse and behaving again now. Yes, getting excited now - you must be too as your date is not far away either. Lili
  12. Hi there Cortney and everyone else, Hope you're getting better with the gas. My partner was banded on the 9th and has had a real tough time with gas but she finally turned the corner yesterday Anyway, you've been added to the list of April bandsters HERE. Also, there's a forum for all the April bandster's HERE - in case you'd like to share experiences with others of us being banded at around the same time.
  13. Hi there , I'm a little scared 'cause I have cheated on my pre-op diet and I'm due to go in for surgery on Thursday. Too late to worry about this now. I'm just getting back on the horse and behaving starting NOW. Anyway, Trish Ann, you've been added to the list of April bandsters HERE. Also, there's a forum for all the April bandster's HERE - in case you'd like to share experiences with others of us being banded at around the same time.

  15. Thanks to everyone for your concern for Lisa. Kimber, you're right - gas pains can be very serious. Lisa really had gotten into a bad cycle - nausea, heaving, which made her swallow more air, the constant heaving meant she not being able to keep fluids down, which made her dehydrated and weak, which meant that she didn't have enough energy to walk long distances, which meant gas was harder to get rid of, which meant more pain and more nausea and more heaving ... For anyone else who gets into this cycle, go and see your surgeon or any doctor as soon as you can. Lisa saw the surgeon on Friday who gave her a shot of Maxolon and that was enough to settle the constant retching. Our surgeon has a recovery room at his rooms so we sat in there until the shot took effect and Lisa was able to swallow sips of Water. Once we got home, we made sure she kept Maxolon on board (by taking the tabs) and pain relief (acetominophen worked well). Then started with charcoal tablets (which absorb the gas) - she found these light years better than the simethicone preparations. That night Lisa had her first night without heaving and it was heaven (for both of us!). Yesterday she was back to nutritious fluids (Soups, Protein drinks, etc) and has therefore got some of her energy back and so she is now back to walking, so by last night she was feeling her old self (10 days after surgery!). So all is good here again. Thanks again to everyone for their support. It has been invaluable.
  16. Hi everyone, Here's the latest updated list (updated: 5pm, 17 April 2009 [Australian eastern standard time]). Names in bright pink mean that person has checked in after surgery. 17. Most people posting appear to have had a pretty good recovery after surgery but it is important for people to realise that things are not so straightforward for some other people and gas pain can be very bad and may not pass altogether quickly. This can be normal and therefore don't panic (which makes things worse) if your gas is not subsiding as quickly as everybody else says it will. What works for one person may not work for another. Everyone is different. Post-op recovery has not been such a fun ride for my partner who was banded on the 9th April. She did ok for the first day or two (when only nights were difficult with discomfort from gas and consequent nausea). However, the last two days she experienced extreme bloating and had not been able to keep anything (not even water) down for two days from the nausea and consequent heaving. She has taken a simethicone preparation (like Gas-X), an antacid, metoclopramide for nausea, pain relievers. She is also walking regularly, using heat packs, doing the exercises, having gentle stomach massage (clockwise circles) with lavendar oil - you name it, she's been using it but nothing really took the pain away. As everyone else seemed to be doing it easy, I was really worried. I was particularly frightened that she'd get severely dehydrated. We did what everyone in her shoes should do when things don't feel right - go and see the surgeon. We saw her surgeon today who checked everything out and reassured her that everything is ok with the band and that the gas problem would eventually pass (when pressed for how long - he replied it varied across people but that in some people it can persist for "weeks"). Lisa is apparently an "air-swallower" (evidenced by the fact that she did a lot of burping before the procedure). It is harder to burp once the band is in and it is this that is causing her extreme discomfort. Our surgeon (who is wonderful) gave her a couple of shots and she managed to keep Water down again before we left is office. She is now resting comfortably and having a sleep. I have everything crossed (even my eyes!) that she'll be feeling better after a good sleep (which has not been possible due to all the heaving she was doing through the night).
  18. I am currently having major second thoughts. I'm due to have my banding done on the 23rd. 20. Hey Ann, Mmmmm, the idea of coconut rum in with the shake - as good as a shake can get! Sounds absolutely delicious - I'm imagining adding it to a vanilla shake would result in something that tasted like a pina colada. Ohh - my mouth is watering bad. You are wicked for telling me about this as I can't afford to try this stunt with only 1 week to surgery. Well, I guess you'll have to stop soon enough too (ha ha). No, not brave to watch the video - STUPID is more like it. Lisa had a couple of really bad nights and a bad day since I last wrote. Gas pain was really bad and very bad nausea. She was badly badly bloated. She felt as though she was having a heart attack. I tried a massage on her stomach last night (clockwise circles) and this morning she has come good. She released heaps of gas and has been sitting on the loo a lot. She dropped 2kg (4lbs) since yesterday and is back to feeling good. Lets hope it stays this way. She sees her doctor on Friday so we'll check that she's within the bounds of what is to be expected for someone in her shoes. If any of the other girls are out there, please let us know how you're doing.
  21. Congratulations on your surgery. Stacey, my partner was banded on the 9th and she has had exactly the same experience. In her case, it was Days 5 and 6 that were really bad for her (though she had continuous pain through to then) - the nausea, heaps of bloating and gas pains - she kept saying that she thought she might be having a heart attack too. Yesterday, she was vowing that she would have the bloody thing removed. Great to hear you're doing better. Lisa's doing better today too - we hope this means a turning of the corner for her. My turn comes April 23 - I am a little scared now after seeing her go through it. In case it would help you, if you go HERE you'll find a forum of us all going through similar experiences following banding in April. Also, have added your name to the list of April Bandsters HERE. (I wasn't sure of your surgery date - was it April 6?)
  22. Congratulations on your date. In case it would help you, if you go HERE you'll find a forum of us all going through similar experiences following banding in April. I believe there are a few hungry people around there. Also, have added your name to the list of April Bandsters HERE. (Because of the time difference between the US and Australia, I wasn't sure of your surgery date - is it scheduled for April 28?)
  23. Congratulations on your surgery. No advice here as I haven't had surgery yet (scheduled for the 23rd). My partner was banded the day after you and unfortunately, she has not been having such a good time afterward - lots of gas pain, serious bloating, severe nausea. In case it would help you, if you go HERE you'll find a forum of us all going through similar experiences following banding in April. Also, have added your name to the list of April Bandsters HERE.
  24. Good luck to you and also to zetanett for surgery today. Please check in and let us know how you're going.
