love this I am heading into pureed soon so I am happy to have a decent idea!
  4. Very cognizant of this...I keep an eye on my urine each void. If it's even slightly dark yellow, I push the fluids. Urine should be clear to light light golden color, not yellow or amber colored. I try to keep the fluids changing...from Snapple Diet Green tea to iced herbal, to Fuze to Fruit 20...along with my full liquids, hopefully it will be enough. Having a salty fluid once in a while is also good, it retains some of the fluid that you are diuresing during this critical phase.
  5. I'll be curious to see as well. I am only eight days post op, down 5 lbs from prep wgt, but down 18 since my presurg diet began. I heard the first month is fairly dramatic.
  6. this does not seem like enough food or calories overall. How about more protein Snacks, or supplement with a protein shake? Your body will hold onto weight if it feels it is starving..so feed it more food. Make sure you are drinking enough fluids as well.
  7. Carnation Instant Breakfast (Blue Box, No Sugar Added) is palatable but overall not a great protein choice. I am really trying to get in at least 60 gms of protein per day.
  8. When you say you can't keep it down, are you actually vomiting? That in itself would be a concern that I would alert your surgeon to. As far as protein, I try to drink at least two "Careone" Whey protein powder/8 oz Simply Smart milk. I bought the protein powder at my local Stop and Shop and it was pretty cheap (10 bucks). It's not super sweet and it has 25 grams of protein per scoop, so with the milk, it's a great source of protein. Plus, 8 oz of fluid is nothing. It doesn't come out too thick at all. Sometimes, I put a half packet of Carnation Instant Breakfast, Chocolate SF flavor in for extra chocolate taste and added protein grams. I have put a few tablespoons of flavored instant potatoes into my chicken broth for a potage sort of hot soup. It's comforting and tastes pretty decent (I buy the loaded potato and four cheese flavors). I have had no issue with pain etc with this.
  9. Truly amazing. It is very encouraging to see these pics!
  10. I took 2.5 weeks off. My surgery was on Wed the 28th of November, and I am returning 12/17. I am fortunate to have separate vacation/sick time and extended sick time. We get one full week per year of extended sick time, so I have about 10 weeks saved. I was lucky.
  11. Beantown here...had my VSG at MGH on 11/28..Dr Meireles...MGH Weight Center
  12. Still very tired at times, but overall, feeling a drastic improvement from earlier this week. I found some new soups to jazz up the dietary repertoire and it;s helped (Trader Joes Tomato and Roasted Red Pepper soup and Miso soup). Weight has dropped 16 lbs since my first post op day. (had gained 10 lbs in fluid immediately post op). Total weight loss since beginning this journey around 18 lbs. I still find myself napping (which I never do except when sick), but I guess my body needs the sleep. Sleeping very well at night Lower plumbing back in working order. One per day (TMI--sorry!) but happy for the results. I return to work on the 17th and I have my annual holiday party here at my house next Saturday My BF has been amazingly supportive and helpful and thank God for friends who will help with the party planning. How is everyone else doing?
  13. I'm still on full liquids for full two weeks post op (day 5 today). I typically drink 2 protein drinks per day with 100% whey in chocolate or vanilla, SF pudding, jello, yogurt as well as a cup of broth with a few tbsp of instant flavored mashed potatoes or I eat Campbells tomato soup made with milk. The first few days were tough, and although extremely boring, I am tolerating better
  14. Thanks everyone! I knew I wasn't alone, but its nice to hear it. My good friend just took me out for a mani pedi, so it was great to get out and about (plus pampering!) I feel a little better today, and have drank a fair amt of fluids already today. Lets hope tomorrow is even better!
  15. As I sit here, 2 lbs lower than preop weight; I can't help but ponder this question. What if I don't lose weight after this? Crazy, huh? Perhaps it comes from all the years of yo yo dieting, losing and regaining, and just plain giving up some days. I just feel so yucky right now. My tummy is covered in new surgical scars and bruises. I am exhausted, weak and uncomfortable. I feel a little frightened that this won't work for me...that I will be that one exception to the rule. As a nurse, it sounds nuts, but its just the way I feel right now. I'm not used to being home, not working, and taking time just for me. Too much time to think I guess. Thanks for letting me rant! (PS, I am five days post op) Krissy
  16. I sooooo understand. I was never a good liquids person prior to surgery and now, four days post op, it's almost unbearable. V8 juice, SF popsicles, chicken broth with a few teaspoons of flavored instant potatoes works well, as does campbells tomato soup with milk.
  17. I am thinking since it is so brief, it is fine. Cold liquids tend to aggravate it.
  18. I had one in, and it was inserted while I was under general. I am thankful for it, as they were pumping 150cc an hr into me, which would have meant very frequent trips to the bathroom and no sleep,
  19. Same reasons for me. I don't have high cholesterol or diabetes. Borderline hypertension, but nothing more. The sleeve was just a better choice
  20. After I take a larger than usual sip, or a bite of pudding or yogurt, I experience a squeezing, cramping quality pain in my sleeve area. It lasts only seconds and is not accompanied by nausea or vomiting, but it does take my breath away. Have any of you experienced this? I am three days post op. when does it stop?
  21. I am 46 years old and a nurse in a Boston hospital. I have a 22 year old son who has not been the easiest to raise (too long to go into). He did give me my beautiful granddaughter, Gabriella, who means the world to me. I love to cook and have loved it since I was a child. I am known as the gourmet cook and local sommelier in my friend and family circle. I love to travel, especially to the islands. Looking forward to Europe next year. I have a greyhound, Lola who is six and an 18 year old cat, Bows. I have an amazing boyfriend, Carlos of six years. He is originally from Peru, and has been here since his teens. I have traveled to Peru with him and actually went to Machu Picchu--amazing!. He is ten years my junior. My weight does not define me, but it does hinder me. Tomorrow starts today.
  22. Wow! You look wonderful. I have 20+ years on you and I can only hope I do as well.
  23. Thanks for such a sweet response! Did you retain a huge amy of fluid post op? I am a nurse, and I am used to my patients experiencing this after surgery, but I have seriously gained about 8 lbs in fluid! I feel like a bowl of jello...hope I will diurese over the next week or so!
  24. Hi everyone. I had been thinking about weightless surgery for about 5 years. I guess my final decision to move forward was the birth of my granddaughter, Gabby who turns 3 on Christmas Day, coupled with the fact that i have had hip dysplasia since childhood, and now my left hip needs replacing. I am only 46 years old, and this is no way to live. I want to be the cool Mimi to Gabby that she deserves. I need to be in good shape, both mentally and physically to do that. I am also hopeful that the hip pain will be decreased with the weight loss. I had my VSG two days ago, and I cannot believe that part is over. When the day was approaching, I was beginning to have doubts. The thought of removing most of my stomach was gut wrenching (pardon the pun). Well, it's all over now and I am recovering nicely. My incisional sites do not have any pain, but my new stomach doesn't seem to like cold liquids at all. It seizes up and cramps with each sip. Pain lasts only about 4-6 seconds, but it tends to take my breath away I start my full liquids and supplements tomorrow--actually looking forward to having some SF pudding, Campbells tomato soup and my protein shakes. I am sick of broth, SF drinks and jello (ick!) My boyfriend of six years has been awesome throughout all of this. I wish everyone well in their journey as well!
