  1. Hi everyone. I got banded in Feb 09 have always had issues of food getting stuck so I'd cough it up, didn't make it down past the band so I don't considering it vomiting. Do any of you have the same issue? Even water gets stuck if I drink too fast or eat solid food too early in the morning. I start with water then diet gatorade then a diet shake. I can start to eat potatoes & eggs or soup or soft foods then by dinner can finally have a small piece of toasted bread & small chicken breast or another type of meat or fish. My band seems to be really tight when I first wake up even after a nap, seems weird but true. Until last night no real problems, but now nausea, pain in stomach & heartburn. I'm afraid something is wrong, I will hopefully be able to find out tues when I see the lapband dr. I have no insurane & was a cash patient back in 2009 but now unemployed & cannot afford expensive tests or Anyone have any of same issues? I actually started having acid reflux lil bit ago but seemed mild so I didn't go to the doctor. Before the lapband surgery in 2009 I had horrible acid reflux which seemed to go away after the surgery but suddenly it's returning. Any advice apprectiated, Thanks Kim
  2. I agree about Dr. Salimitari. He did my surgery back in February, and he's great. He truly cares & is the sweetest man ever.
  3. I used to drink at least two cans of diet coke the first few months after surgery because I wasn't told not until 3 months or so after surgery. I hope I didn't cause any damage or slippage. I've only lost 25 lbs in like 8 months. Now band is tight but everything I eat gets stuck, and I have to cough it up & try something else.
  4. Rice Chex, I too had injuries causing me to have 3 surgeries that also caused me to not be able to exercise & gained 50 lbs. I needed to lose about 40-50 lbs. I started at 207lbs. They put a large 14cc band though which seems weird to me if you got a small one. It sounds like you started around the same weight as me? I wonder if I got too large of a band then because I haven't lost as much as I probably should have. Thanks, Kim
  5. I'm a night owl & wait for time alone at night to watch shows I record during the day so munchies begin plus I usually have a glass of wine. If I eat a salad & go to bed earlier I lose weight but who knowsw, everyone is different. I had surgery in february & have only lost 25 lbs. Someone mentioned drinking soda, my doctor said no carbonated drinks, does anyone know if it can cause trouble? I really miss diet coke w/splenda. Thanks, Kim
  6. Just curious, why do people get un fills? I finally have enough in my band to have restriction, I have 9cc in a 14cc band. food gets stuck of i eat too fast or too much bread and sometimes I PB is that why people get unfilled? Thanks, Kim Q.
  7. Hi everyone, to the person who asked about meds, they gave prescriptions after & yes I had to pay. I didn't take the liquid vicodin they prescribed me I didn't like it, so i went to Walmart & got Liquid Tylenol which was much better. Also the antibiotics they give you need to smash up & put in liquid, no one told me that & capsules were getting stuck a little. As far as the liquid diet, I had clear liquids for 5 days then moves to chocolate soy protein shakes from walmart and shortly after had mushies like refried beans I added a little water & put in little food processor and made thinner also boiled brocoli & creamy soups. I had surgery in Feb and am down 20 lbs now & feel alot better. Good luck.
  8. Hi, Ive lost about 20 lbs since banded. Doing better after new DR filled band more once they figured out i have a large 14 cc band. After I posted that i didnt know what band i had they called from bev hills with info immedately after so they read these posts!
  9. sistasassy, What do you mean your band closes off? I got 2cc's put in last time & food keeps getting stuck and I either PB or wait it out so about an hour and I feel better, that isnt closed off though right? KimmyQ
  10. Good Luck with your banding. I was banded by Dr. S & I like him alot but for some reason neither him or anyone anywhere seems to know what size band I have, so I advise you tell him before surgery to make sure he writes it down. Iv'e been asking for 4 months with no answer. When thye switched doctors on me the new doctor asked what size band I have & I had no idea, he even called Beverly Hills where I got surgery & couldn't get an answer. It's nice to keep track of how many cc's you have in your band with each fill, I have almost 10 cc in my band & I finally have restriction so I assume I have a 14cc band even though Dr. S said he thought he out a 10cc band. I paid cash & still can't even find out my band size for sure, weird. Other than that I've had a good experience.
  11. Mom2two, I'm having the same issue I believe, don't know for sure still need testing but Dr. thinks there may be an issue. I'm not throwing up luckily but I never feel restriction & I got banded feb 13th. I have 8cc in my band & no feeling of anything so far. I was drinking diet cokes because my first doctor said it was fine & now I have a new dr he said, no carbonated drinks ever. He thinks I may have streched pouch or cause slippage. I'm wondering will I have to pay to fix it? Do you have to pay? I already paid $16,000 for surgery I can't afford to pay anything else. Thanks Kim Q
  12. Hello, I was banded by Dr. Salimitari on 2-13-09 in the Beverly Hills surgery center. No complications, everything went smoothly. It's not a hospital but it feels like one, & they were very professional & I woke up in the recovery room feeling pretty good & ready to go home.
  13. I hope i dont have slippage, I got banded feb 13th & cant lose weight I never feel full & I have 7cc in my band. I vomited 7 times the night I got surgery I hope that didnt cause damage. My doctor had me on liquid diet for 5 days then mushies I hope it wasnt too soon. Im scared cuz no weight loss since Feb.
  14. I'm wondering if I have a band slip. I got banded Feb 13th, I lost 12 lbs on the liquid phase then only a pound or two since. I have a total of 7cc in my band which was 5 fills & never feel restriction. What's up? I feel totally let down
  15. No I didn't get an endoscopy, what is that? I haven't had any trouble & was banded feb 13th. I like Dr Salimitari alot.
  16. Hello, that's good you have restriction from your fill. I don't know why different people experience different feeling of fullness with same amout of cc's in a band. Iv'e had three adjustments since my surgery in Feb & I have never felt restriction. I haven't lost any weight since the original 13lbs the first week. Now the doctor wants me to attend a support group at their office & see the psychologist there alos, so maybe it's other things interferring with my weight loss. I'll try his suggestions & see what happens.
  17. Hello, I too was banded by him on Feb 13th & no complications either. He is such a sweet caring doctor. Iv'e lost 14 lbs which isn't as good as I could have so on tues when I got another fill he asked me to keep a food journal & stop drinking alcohol so frequently & wants to see me again in two weeks, also he suggested calling the Beverly Hills office to make appt for the support group. I told him I have issues in my personal life so i think he wants me to deal with things that may be interferring with my weight loss. I recommend him to anyone looking for a great lap band surgeon he actually cares about his patients unlike some places that just want your money.
  18. Hello, I read about the pb'ing & haven't experienced any trouble like that it's weird that I haven't it seems. I was banded last month & had a fill last tues & don't feel much I mean I'm not very hungry & feel stuffed if I drink a protein shake but that's the only time. I don't want trouble but wonder if my band is on correctly or what?
  19. Hi everyone, I was banded one month ago today & got a fill this past tues. so far Iv'e been able to eat anything without getting stuck or full so I don't know if I got enough of a fill. He said it was 4cc he put in, who knows. what's a sweet spot mean? Thanks KimmyQ
  20. Hi back, No I see him in his Palmdale office because it's closer to home. I did get the surgery in Beverly Hills though. I got a fill on tuesday, so far so good. :scared2:
  21. Hi Orionsgirl, I was banded Feb 13th by him & I agree, I like him very much too.
  22. H snowwhytequeen, I was banded Feb 13th ans went to mushies 5 days after that & solid food week 3. The nutritionist gave me a meal plan saying it was ok for that, you should be able to eat solid food by now I would think. Have you asked your doctor? I still eat some pureed food like boiled veggies but I do eat chicken breast and salmon fillets with no issues so far. I had my first fill yesterday so i had a liquid diet yesterday but, solid food today, no problems. Good luck to you, Kim
  23. Hi I have high triglicerides & cholesterol too but if you drink any alcohol within like 3 days of blood work the triglicerides go way up I have found. I get high cholesterol from eating processed foods & pre packaged stuff plus fast food. I harley ever eat any meat besides chicken breast so it's not from meat. Whenever I'd so th South beach diet my blood work came back great, so eating whole grains & the right carbs & not too much alcohol really helps me with that. Maybe you can ask your doctor about that.
  24. I hope throwing up doesn't cause band slippage because the very night i got home from the hospital I threw up like 7 times. I was so thirsty & everytime I drank my diet gatorade or chicken broth I was running for the bathroom. It was the regular throwing uo with the bad acid taste. (sorry that's gross) so I hope there's no damage. I got my first fill today but the doctor didn't do it with the xray so I didn't get to see the band. Feel good though so I'm hopeful nothing is wrong.
  25. I guess every doctor really is different. I was told 3 days clear liquids then regular liquids for the rest of the week then mushies then at week 3 can move to solids. I was banded Feb. 13th & have had no problems that I'm aware of. I had my first fill today & until now, I felt very little restriction actually I still don't. I did at the office when the doctor firdt filled it & had me taking sips of water, it hurt. He said he put in 4cc I don't know if that's the normal amount or not.
