I haven't heard that one LOL. In my area, people say, "It's not the size of the boat, it's the motion of the ocean." or "You don't have the touch the bottom, as long as you tickle the sides."

Hope4Life- some co-morbidities include sleep apnea(you will need a sleep study to check for this), joint pain(your back pain may qualify), and as you mentioned heart disease and diabetes( I am not sure if family history will qualify as a co-morbidity). Depression can also be factored into your paperwork as a comorbidity if you are on an anti-depressant. Hope this helps!

I am 2 weeks post-op and have no restriction either. My surgeon says restriction comes with your first fill. I wont have my first fill for 2 more weeks. I believe we are in what is referred to as "bandster hell". Our appetite is the same as before. My doc says during this time willpower is the key and just to do my best to make good food choices. HTH

I have BC/BS of KY. This is kind of strange because I live in Indiana but my husband's work( even though it is in Indiana) has BC/BS of KY). To further complicate the matter, I had my surgery in Cincinnati, OH:biggrin1: . My experience thus far has been great. 1) I was approved in 9 days. 2) The pre-requirements were a psych eval, a nutritional consult, a letter of medical necessity from your family doctor 3)No documented diet was required. 4)There was a $250 deductible for hospital 5) A BMI of above 40 was required if you have no co-morbidities. With at least 2 co-morbidities, a BMI of more that 35 is required. My surgery was 4/9/07 and all is great. Please keep in mind though that from what I have been told BC/BS varies very much from employer to employer. Many employers totally exclude band surgery from their BC/BS policy.Your results may vary.

18 lbs in 2 weeks. That was Medifast shakes, puddings, and soups only. I was allowed to supplement liquids with SF popsicles, SF jello, and broth. NO medifast snack bars or any other foods were allowed. I was banded on 4/9/07 and am now down 21 lbs.

I am a firm believer that if law abiding citizens are not allowed to have guns the criminals WILL still have them! I think the chance of encountering a potential victim who is "packing" keeps the scum bags at bay.LOL

My grandma was born and raised in rural eastern Kentucky. She would say: "Pawn my word and honor" (Upon my word and honor, maybe?) Wow, this makes me miss grandma. She was such a sweet lady and spunky too!

Yep, I have my date for banding and it is April 9th. I am so excited I can't stand it!:clap2: I have to be on Medfast for two weeks prior per my surgeon's instructions. I cannot wait to be a resident of Bandland!

I live in an area of Indiana which has a lot of illegals. I just recently found out that among the illegal population in our area, they feel they are more readily accepted if they deny being from Mexico and say they are from Guatemala , El Salvador, etc.(Keep in mind the people I am referring to ARE actually from Mexico.) The ironic part is that in this little hick area I live in any Hispanic is automatically called a Mexican and the people who are prejudiced could care less where they are really from.

If you could only afford one or the other-an elliptical or a treadmill- which one would you choose? I am willing to spend 600-900 but due to financial constraints cannot spend anymore than that.What do you guys think?

I am on both glucophage and byetta and have GAINED about 50 pounds since I started on them. I have type 2 diabetes and my doc had high hopes that these would help with weight loss. They did not but they did help with blood sugar control. My last A1C was 6.6 which was pretty good.

hey buffybandslayer! I wanted to go to Dr Curry in Cincinnati. He has lots of Indiana patients. If I had not chosen Dr C then I would have went to Louisville, KY anyway. I am only 30 miles from Louisville. As I mentioned, I live in southern Indiana.

I am from southern Indiana but will be having my band surgery in Cincinnati, OH. Hi to all you hoosiers!

It seems that some people have their gallbladder removed during the band surgery. Does the surgeon just check and see that the gallbladder is diseased? Do some surgeons just automatically remove the gallbladder? I sure would not want to have 2 surgeries really close together if I could have them at the same time!

Well I met the famous Dr C yesterday. I had my consult, psych eval, and nutrition eval all in one day. They did this to help me out since I have a two hour drive each way.Isn't that terrific? Well as usual, you guys were right! He and his staff were wonderful. They were knowledgeable, friendly, and down to earth. Wow, what a great experience. I cannot wait to be banded! Thanks again to Dr C and all you guys who told us about him.
